I had the most pleasant suprise yesterday. After paying for coffee at a coffee shop on my college campus I recieved as change a dollar bill that had the words Firefly-Keep Flyin' inscribed on it. Now I know one of the campaigns discussed to promote the show was to write Firefly related slogans on paper money (heck I've inscribed several dollars myself, but this one definitely wasn't one of mine), and I was wondering if it was possible that it came from anyone on this board.

I know that, with the way money is circulated, it could have come from anywhere but I thought it most likely that it came from somewhere in the Birmingham, AL area. Anyway, it brought a huge smile to my face so I thought I'd share the story as well as inquire as to that bill's origins.

I would like to make a suggestion on the dollar bill thing. Everyone might want to add a short signature to them. On my bills I add GNR to the lower left corner.

That Birmingham Browncoat might be me. I started writing on them a couple weeks ago and have been doing it fairly consistently ever since. I didn't add a signature, though.

This is very, very cool. Point of interest: my first couple Firefly bills went into circulation paying for lunch at Tortugas in Hoover.

That's a good idea GunRunner. Wish I'd thought of it sooner.

Sarahetc,

Very cool indeed. It was awesome to see evidence of other Firefly fans in my area.

Also, question: Were you ever a member of the OB. I remember speaking to a Birmingham Browncoat by the name of Sarah there a long while back. We had talked about holding a shindig and then my entire life exploded ( ) and I stopped going to the boards for a while. That you?

I think it was. I was going to ask you if you were originally an OB person. Sorry to hear your life exploded.

My info is in my profile if you ever want to get in touch.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

The idea of adding a signature is cool, but what if we write the state abbreviation on them as well, so we know how far the bills might be travelling.

I have been writing on my bills for the past week.

Interesting idea, I may start doing this. Question though, where and how large do you write it?

And for a signature, what do you think? State, to see how far bills go, or initials?

I usually write near the margins (easier to read) in my standard size handwriting. Around the edges, in other words, and not too small.

I've also considered using a sharpie to write "Firefly" on the whole of the back of the bill, but haven't worked up the guts. My husband is a banker and keeps telling me how illegal this is and I keep demanding his cash so I can write on it.

I've started adding a signature too. Backside of the bill, bottom right-hand corner: "s,etc"

Front or back? Is there a certain size that it becomes illegal?

I'd like to write "Firefly - No power in the 'verse can stop me" but I'm afraid that's a little too long.

Anyways, watch out, North Carolina's gonna start getting some Firefly dollar bills.

Any Canadian FF fans out there doing this yet? I'm going to start. I love this idea - how about adding www.fireflyans.net so they can get caught up in the love?

Canadian fan here ;) Wish I'd thought of that... expect to see some paper money in the London, Ontario area with the slogan "Firefly - Keep Flyin" on it. Probably have an I.B. below it ;)

I write on the back mostly. Lately I've been writing "Serenity flies again!" on the front and "You can't take the sky from me" on the back.

As for the illegal, I have no idea if it's actually illegal or not. I just have him telling me that it is. I can look it up this afternoon if no one beats me to it.

Anything you write is cool be it big, small, or other.

From http://www.wheresgeorge.com/faq.php

#8 Is it legal to write on or mark currency?
Where's George? does not encourage the defacement of U.S. Currency. The law defines 'illegal' defacement as defacement that renders bills unfit to be re-issued. For the legal details from the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, please Click Here http://www.bep.treas.gov/document.cfm/18/104

If you get any (possibly from your stopover at the SLC airport) that say just "firefly" somewhere on the white part of the bill, written in blue ball point, that's me. Been doin' it for a week or two now. Wish I had thought of it sooner too. What a waste of all that money... it could have been free advertising.

Well, hello there Kanger and Sarah, it is good to know there are other Browncoats from Birmingham, AL out there. I've written on a few bills but without a sig. I'll have to start doing that. Keep flying.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Keeping track of the origin where the bill was marked is an excellent idea.

Browncoats are shiny, shiny people.

Another way to keep track instead of writing a sig is writing down the serial number of the bills you marked...

IDGY

Hi guys! New here, in Montgomery and have joined in the paper money campaign! I've been signing Idgy AL. I'm really excited that I've found so many other people who love this show as much as I do! Oh, and I've been putting "Firefly- No power in the 'verse can stop me" along the bottom on the back. It just fits and the margin is large enough that I can write in basically my normal sized writing.

I live in Mountain Brook (in case you can't tell that by my name) and have been writing several different Firefly oriented messages on various bill amounts.

So if the writing is really poor then it is mine.

Tortugas is a really good pizza place, my parents own that shopping center and a few others in the hoover area.

Renew "Firefly" and "Angel" or the terrorist win.
