I don't know how many people already know about this, but... I discovered something shiny. You can read this long detailed thing:

Or just go by what I say - it's a short series of clips, starring Summer Glau (who played River Tam) and Joss Whedon, as the Alliance interviewer/doctor/thingy. Basically, it's showing River before the Academy (when applying) and during her descent into "craziness". VERY interesting to catch a glimpse of what she was like as a normal (albeit brilliant and likely psychic) girl...

Just be patient for it to load - you can't pause it or anything, there aren't any links on that page either (don't know why), but it's only maybe 5 minutes long total, so either be patient and it'll start playing when it's ready, or find somebody with a good internet connection.
