I second Tristan in regards to the Sniper rifle, as long as it's a G36 varient, it'll work. This is non-negotiable. If anyone plans on kitbashing (or interpreting, depending on the circles you run in) anything but a G36 varient, it'll have to be pre-approved, and I wouldn't hold your breath. Here's the one I'm buying:

http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/08/6e/8f/6d_1.JPG

This is it's base design, the only thing I want to change is the magazine, as the SL-8 typically comes with a smaller mag.
I'm assuming by 'period correct' you're reffering to some previous war (I'm willing to guess Civil War, but possibly Revolutionary) and not to a war 500 years in the future. I second Tristan with the bag, we'll need to see it before we can make a decision.

As for the slogan. I'm putting a thread on our dedicated board for submissions. I'm going to give all members of the 76th until the end of January to submit a slogan and all entries will be voted on. The winner will get a 76th patch and possably something else.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Tristan, the vest looks good. I think the hooks look great. The simple look of the vest works fine in my opinion. It will be under the coat for the most part.

The belt pouches look shiny. I have a half dozen or so that are similar to that in black nylon that I used for the Jayne costume I wore that will work for my 76th uniform.

I am happy to be a source for the insignia patches if the local surplus store has a supply and are reasonably priced. I am also researching stores online to see what I can find out on that end. It will most likely be the week after Christmas before I have anything definitive.

Rank insignia, that's what I was going to talk about. Thanks for the reminder BC.

Okay, as far as the subdued patches, the Army used to wear sew on rank patches on their collars. This was better than pins for several reasons, the main one being that it was neater and looked a shit ton better. The new ACUs (All-Terain Combat Uniform), which has replaced the BDUs, DCUs and UCUs (Battle Dress, Desert Cammo, and Urban Combat, respectively) wear all velcro patches, including rank, which was moved to the front of the uniform. We now wear our rank like the french.

If we are going to go the subdued patch route, I suggest people buy it now, as it's being phased out completely by the army.

This site has sew on rank $1 a pair:
Officers:
http://www.1800nametape.com/army-off.htm#DESERT
Enlisted:
http://www.1800nametape.com/army-enl.htm#DESERT

If you order from here, these are the one's with rank equivelant:

E-2 = PVT
E-3 = PFC
CPL = Corporal (I know oyu know this, I'm posting all)
E-5 = SGT
E-6 = SSG
E-7 = SFC
1SG = First Sergeant

1LT = Lieutenant Going with 1LT rather than 2LT.
The rest are self explainitory.

This is a damn good price at only $1 a set, and most tailors will sew the rank on for like $2.

BWTP, that is one shiny-looking rifle! Again, I can't wait to see it in person!
But yes, again we reiterate...only variants of the G36 will be accepted. Pre-approval is possible but not very likely. Sorry, but the whole "uniform" look is what we are going for.

BrownCoat1, thank you for that. I know that the vest will be worn under the coats, but there are those that will be opting for Type B uniforms, so I still want it to look good!
And thank you on the hooks thing. I am liking them more each time I get a positive reponse to them.

Alright, the 76th will be going with the subdued sew-on rank insignia on our uniforms. Placement to be decided, but it looks to be on the collars of the Type A and shoulders of the Type B...unless we want to keep it all in the same spot, and put the insignia under (or over?) our shoulder patches. Let me know.

Also, BrownCoat1, thank you for offering to be a source. As BWTP pointed out, with the Army phasing them out, local stores may be our only option after awhile.

BWTP, thank you for those links. I may end up getting several extras, especially in the PVT rank.

Thanks for the link BWTP. At a buck a pair for the sew ons, it will be hard to beat that price.

Well, it certainly keeps things simpler.

It also fits with our evolving sense of the 76th's story. As an true "independent" unit, raised by individuals rather than by a planetary government, it would not be unusual for there to be fewer officers' ranks (and fewer officers!), and more NCOs. Remember that as far as the 76th goes, the highest rank is Colonel. Ain't gonna be but the one. So LT to CAPT to MAJ, 3 officer's ranks, then the head of the unit.

Besides, if you have enough good NCOs, you don't need many officers. (So says the retired LCDR, Medical, USNR).

BWTP and Tristan appear to be cleaving unto the "keep it simple, keep it fun" principle. I'm just delighted that, by happenstance, things are all coming together so.

I think I got it all moved. If anyone sees something I missed, please email me at tristan71@cableone.net and let me know. I am not trying to hide mistakes, but I am sure there are some, and I don't want to clutter the thread with them.

-EDIT-
Because I made a mistake and did not say this was the nwe thread....so....this is the new thread:
