been a browncoat now almost 2 years.

Ths first thing I saw on this site was the Serenity By Gaslight graphic. I downloaded it, saved it, use it for my wallpaper. It's why I'm a regular HERE and not somewhere else.

But where , exactly, did that shot come from? I've seen it in one of the documentaries on the DVD. Did Joss, the camera man, and the lighting guys just cook that shot up? Did it just Happen?

I usedta study design and stage lighting, so I know some of the tricks with light and shadow, but I've never had a picture of a place grab me the way that one does. I *W*A*N*T* to walk on that deck, sit at that table, touch those walls, sprawl in a chair in the nook.

I appreciate the genius that went into that shot, and I want to be able to credit it properly.

Anybody know?

Howdy NOBC

I don't know for certain.. but I kind of remember that it was a photo that NATHAN took,,, wandering through the set/ship after the cancellation..

perhaps Haken or someone with more knowledge can confirm this. but that is my recollection.

And it does have a warm yet haunting feel to it.. haunting as in poignant.

I never gave much thought of where the pic came from. I figured it had to be one of the set referance shots, but I could be wrong. It would be great to give props to the one who took the shot. Serenity by Gaslight has been on my desktop for over a year and occasionally I get someone askin' what it is.

I'm another one with that photo saved for
wallpaper. It captures the amber light, the
warmth of the galley, and also the warmth
I found in most parts of this board.
Would really like a definitive answer as
to the provenance of this shot because people
tend to ask about it.

Count me in as one of the bunch who has it saved and uses it as a wallpaper frequently. Sometimes I need to see our "home" and that's the shot that makes me sigh and wish and be comforted. I too find it representative of our home here on this board. All of us a crew together.

Like you, NOBC it makes me yearn to be on Serenity.
Never felt a connection to a ship in a scifi series before, but Serenity feels like home to me.. I'd get on her in a second and "go out into the black". I've told friends before and I mean it sincerely... I'd ship out on Serenity as the deck washer!

Chindi, you're one of those people who knows how I feel about that ship.. and you're right, it's "haunting and poignant". Like the last glance over your shoulder as you're forced to disembark from her and there's a thought that you might not get to fly in her again.

I've "heard" that Nathan or Nathan's father took the pic and that somehow Haken knows them and got a copy? Haken, only you can clarify this, so it's not just a wild rumor but fact.... I sure hope you'll tell us!

Meanwhile, tonight it's back up on my desktop.
And it still makes me sigh.

Ohhhhh, shoot!
Gorramnit.
Tears, a little, thinking of it.

Had for wallpaper this evening "That Shot" of Nathan as Caleb, knife gleaming in the light. Had turned it into a black/white image and set it up.

Now I'm thinking it's got to be the galley and the gaslight, and the last of my pot of coffee while we run so quietly through the black toward whatever's next.

I just checked. MY filesize is 1.39 MB, in BMP format , I think. It looks fine at 1600 by 1200 on my 15 in. monitor, which I usually run at 1024 by 768 so the letters are big enough that I can read text.

Ah yes, as soon as you mentioned the file dimensions I spotted the problem - the aspect ratio of the picture (800 x 600)was not the same as my monitors (1280 x 1024). Windows was stretching it to fit and distorting the image. I resized in Photoshop and it now looks much better.

Silly me should have thought of that before.

Pengy-luv, it ain't theft if they're laid
out on a plate. With a doily, even.
And here's FM with more, so curl up your
little finger and be dainty. No need to
cram them into your waistcoat.

Some kind person has fired up the wife soup.
I'll get out another package of Blue Sun(TM)
hot cheese mix and start the chafing dish.

That box I left on the Mule? It's mangos!
Don't y'all run at once to bring it up here.
But leave the nasty box wine there. It's
intended as trade for Badger 'cos he has
something I want.

Yeah, I'd ship out, too. Failing that, I'd do
my galley over if I had the Earth/US$.

For your cold, I'd suggest a little something
Simon has in his red bag, along with our strongest

Or there's that iffy-smelling stuff Jayne always

Drinks it but also spreads it on his chest and

Boros Roast too strong for you?
I know it'll put hair on your ho-ho*

I can visit Badger with that box wine.

If you're up to it, try the upper left panel
on the wall there -- should be a bag or two
left.

I really cant see any difference between the 133KB jpg and your 1.39MB BMP though I appreciate your sending. I just thought there must have been a higher resolution image floating around.

Saw the graphic on the other thread. It that what the door there looked like, or is that just some piece of plywood nailed up to close the hole? Ugly.

I like that empty viod, even with the stage braces showing.
