Ready or not, here we come,
Walkin' down the street;
Get the funniest looks from
Everyone we meet:
Hey, hey we're the Browncoats!
Come and watch us sing and play;
We're the Firefly nation
And we've got something to say!

New thread already?

Yay, first! Don't normally get to celebrate being first, as either I've started the thread, or been offline for 8-12 hours after it was started.

Um, new thread at only 100 posts? ok.

Way to go on the firsties, Nico!

Copied from last thread.

Good Morning, Imponderables.

I don't remember my quote. Too long ago. Funny, I remember other people's but not my own.

A question from yesterday that I never responded to:

I have made less a resolution but more of an effort to stay in touch with the various friends I've made throughout the years. I've already rekindled a friendship via email that the woman had entirely given up on me. I feel really good about having reached out to her with my Mea Culpa.

I have a cup of the Good Stuff over at the pub. Better go grab it before Tristan commandeers it.

PS- New dog peepeed in the house yesterday. Not happy. On top of that, the kitties are taking out their displeasure at the new family member by clawing and not using the litter box.
Basically, my house...smells a bit!

No rule, JQ, and no need to get your panties in a twist. I've never started a thread myself - just seen them started at about 135+ postings.

Did my dog pee in your cornflakes?

Not a need, exactly; more of a want (cf. yesterday's flirtation)
As to the 135+, that's only because as fast as our posts usually fire off, there's a 35+ delay factor from the point of trying to start a new thread...

Did my dog pee in your cornflakes?

Seems like he did everywhere else...and he's recruiting! Mmmm. Did they say he was housebroken? Could just be the new environs thing. I wouldn't expect him to start marking the whole house but you know he just needed it to feel a little bit more like "home". The cats are just plain Pee'd Off. They don't do change well anyway, and...THIS IS A DOG, YOU BIT...! er, well you get it. They'll get over it. And cat pee is much worse than dog pee, though neither is enjoyable in the long run. If the dog pee continues, I would start house training from square one, whether he was trained or not. It'll be a quicker study the second time around, but it's better not to leave him any room for doubt about what is acceptable behavior. Dogs love rules, but they don't always get what is applicable in the new situation. Don't you just love al this unsolicited advice? You're probably a champion breeder and I'm putting my foot in it. Let me just point to my tag line

and shut up.

Morning all...Mav I can sympathize. We got a male cat from the shelter who had been outdoors for his first 4 years before neutering. Took us a bit to get him to stop marking. I can reccomend white vinegar to remove dog pee, but as for cat pee try this
http://www.zeroodorpet.com/ it's the only thing I've found that takes the smell out permanently:) HUGS and hang in there

Jonny- poke.. poke... morning

Tristan-sure taunt me with coffee since I ran late this morning and didn't have time for either breakfast or coffee ...so tired now

MSG & Magda-

What's going on with FMF? If you can't post it, please email me! I'm getting a bit concerned.

Thanks for the peepee encouragement. Just hearing that tinkling sound at 2 AM is a little unnerving and I shot outta bed like a flash. Took him for a quick walk outside in my robe (25 degrees!)and couldn't get back to sleep.

I think things will settle down soon. I'm of the opinion Rock-head will stop soon as he clearly loves being with our family and he's "claiming us" as his own. I will endure until then.

The girls on the other hand are elderly ( 17 & 20 ) , rule the roost and are totally torqued at this turn in events. Gracie-Face ( the thin one ) is hiding in my closet, and Hedgie ( Large Marge ) is wedged under the bed.

EDIT for Magda: Hi honey- didn't see you there! Work is settling down. Year end reports are done and I can resume my computer work. Too bad. And I was getting back into the swing of things!

JQ- Fix that pic, please. Thank You!

Oh dear - Mavs, the dog where I am house-sitting is really jealous if I pay attention to the 16 year old cat... apparently with a house full of teens and family here most of the day she is missing all the bustle and despite being told that she would keep to herself she is really enjoying cuddles and likes to be near me, so the poor dog (who is also missing his teens) is so jealous whenever she is with me... you can hear him saying... "Hey - this is my human - not yours - you don't even like humans...!"

Where done one get this "massage"? Sounds dreamy. As for the Flickr flicker, that was my fawlty. I copied the wrong (read: blank) gif. Duh. Hey I'm a little rusty, ya know? Been a while!

Speaking of wiles...thank you for the Christmas Card! At first when I saw the airmail stamp, I thought it was from my beloved cousin in DesktopHippie land (anyone heard from her lately? Do we need to start yet another "where are they now" thread?). Then I saw the return address on the back and actually let out a mind "squee", I think you and PR call it! Mmmm. Got a raised eyebrow from MsQ on that one and explaining it was from one of my female Fireflyfanfolk somehow didn't seem to help. I don't get it. But thank you just the same!

Not a true imponderable (at least, not a true gender based one), but something to ask about anyway.

What moments render an actor incapable of being believable in other roles for you?

For example, to me, Brad Pitt will always be Tyler Durden, Robert Carlyle will always be Francis Begbie and there's a few others. Curiously, David Tennant is still an equal blend of Casanova and Dr Who for me.

After watching the Grindhouse trailer, I doubt I'll ever have any hope of seeing Rose McGowan the same way again. I spent an entire episode of Charmed expecting to see the M4/203 instead of her leg. So that you don't need to watch the trailer if it's not your thing, here's the poster, which oughta give you a fair idea.

I purposely--purposefully--did not choose to post that one. (cf. my email again, if you in fact read it the first time...!) Is that how you extract the vitriol?

Anyway, we're looking at actors (gender-free word these days for the PC sensitive among us; bulletin: PC is passe these days...) who are so connected to a single role that suspension of disbelief falters when we see 'em in something else.

Here, let me get the obvious ones out of the way:

Ah, yes, yes. I see. Hm. Kind of like Shatner will always be Kirk? (EDIT: Gorramn it, JoQu! No fair significantly editing your posts! )

There are probably several actors who fit this category in my little mind. The one that always leaps to the forefront, in a very bad way, is Kevin Bacon and his role in Sleepers. After seeing that movie, I have never been able to see him in any movie as anything other than an evil, dirty, slimy, child molestor. *shudder*

Oh! Also?

Hmmm well I loathe Russell Crowe so I won't watch him in anything. But as for actors I can't suspend disbelief with... Sean Connery is Bond, James Bond in my head and I wasn't able to watch Alan being a child molester on CSI because my brain kept screaming " Wash would never do this"

Life.
Isn't.
Fair.

Much as I enjoy the thought of Magda having to spell out "crap", I am amused also by "tongue", which in the present context especially appropos.

If your mind is little, it is at least Escherian. I'm pretty sure analyzing it would be a career, not a pasttime...

Mr. Bacon was slimy in his flashbacks (I said the secret word! do I get an extra hundred bucks, Groucho?) in JFK, too. *echos shudder* But he hasn't ruined himself for me.

Have you seen Gods and Monsters? Sir Ian is a different kind of bloke there. And in a converse, if not perverse, sort of way, he ruined Gandalf for me. Nobody else could ever play that part. (unlike Fiskerwidget in Harry Potter, no slight Richard Harris, but Michael Gambon seems to fit right in; I say "seems to" because I haven't seen the last one yet and know not whereof I speak. That has rarely stopped me...and if it's a bad example, I'll find a better one. Maybe James Bond?)

EDIT Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, er, Ms. Kitten...
I heard The Woodsman was very good. Different angle on the same, um, character flaw.

I am a firm believer that it is that time post education but pre kids that (for the most part) people grow up and out of bubbles and puddles.

All bets are off once kids come into the picture. You regain that childlike play quality. You can't imagine the satisfaction of smashing play-doh cars together!

And I was just strolling through the thread to say farewell. Quittin' time here at the OK Corral.

and msg, thanks for the PM.

Until tomorrow, when I can regale you with more puppy peepee stories -

Hmmm, I really think that it depends on what you think of as "kid stuff". There are certain things that you should grow out of when others don't see you as a little kid anymore like stuff that's really annoying, but that people find cute when you're little....However, some things I don't think you need to stop doing just 'cause you're older, even though they might be meant for younger people. For example, I wouldn't want to quit reading Harry Potter just 'cause it's like a 4th grade reading level! And I do enjoy bubbles too!!

How old when you stop doin' kid stuff? Hell, I'm twenty one years old (which is thirty-four American), and I still blow bubbles from time to time. The dogs love them, too.

It's from Finding Nemo....a neurotic fish with a bubble fixation. It's all I could come up with on short notice when blowing bubbles was mentioned. I found it while looking for something for NVG and just could not live without it.
