I know this was previously done on another thread, but its miles down the list now. And I know a lot recent stuff has been on negatives against the show, amazon reviews and the like. Fine, people don't like it, don't give them the time of day. It shouldnt stop us from celebrating something we all love and enjoy, so with that in mind, here is another of my favourite moments. You see, I spent so much time watch my favourite episodes, I kinda neglected some of the others. Sure I knew what happened in them, but its like an old book, you know the plot, but you forget what its really all about.

1. New/old fave moment for me - In Out Of Gas, towards the end, when Mal wakes up and then is just about to drift off again, and asks his crew if they are all gonna be there when he wakes up.

2. Our Mrs Reynolds - Just when Mal wakes up after being knocked out by Saffron's killer lipstick, he sees most of the crew watching him and he says, Is it Christmas?? Man, I love this show.

Keep flying, keep blowing the Firefly trumpet people, we got work to do!!!

Steve

Ah yes, I like this idea ;)

Serenity:
-"Wash, we're on! Go!" Then the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my life... I play it about 4 times before I continue on lol.
-"Everything looks good from here. Yes.. yes. This is a fertile land. We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... this land! etc etc"
-"If anybody makes so much as a-" *BANG!* Classic

Trainjob:
-When Mal kicks Nishka's henchman through the engine
-"Nothin. I just wanted to distract you so she could get behind you." *crack*

Bushwacked:
-"Oh my god! We;re all doomed, Who's FLYING THIS THING?!?! Oh... right, that would be me."

Shindig:
-"A swo-what?"
-"Mercy is the mark of a great man." *stab* "guess I'm just a good man. *stab* "ahh I'm alright."
-"You didn't have to wound that man." "Yeah, I know. it was just funny."

Safe:
-"Well look at this. 'appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?" "Big damn heroes, sir." "Aint... we... just."
-"You cannot THINK to thwart gods will." "Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not sayin you were hard to find, but it was kinda out of our way and he didnt wanna come in the first place. Man's lookin to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should be thinkin about thwarting."
-"The girl's a witch." "Yea, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down."

Our Mrs. Reynolds:
-"Ohhh you might wanna reconsider. See, I married me a POWERFUL ugly creature." "How can you say that?? How can you shame me in front of new folk??" "If I could make you prettier I would!" "You are NOT the man I met a year ago!"

Jaynestown:
-The whole hero of canton song... sooo funny.

Out of Gas:
-The sound of the ship after the lights dim for a bit... the grossest sound a ship could ever make, but so real. That whirring.. choking sound.. makes me shudder every time.
-The very end. Almost brings a tear to my eyes, how Mal looks at Serenity like a long lost love.

Ariel:
-The look on Jayne's face when the captain has him in the airlock... poor guy. Almost feel sorry for him ;)

War Stories:
-The very beginning, when the camera pans around the planet from Serenity to the Skyplex... such utterly awesome CGI

Trash:
-"Yupp... that went well." Hahaha!

The Message:
-the entire ice planet sequence with Serenity running from the fed. (nice foreshadowing with the ice planet snack at the beginning ;) ). Such beautiful music and awesome CGI.
-"Awful spry for a dead fella"
-"Ahh..AHHH!!! Mal, your dead army guy's on the bridge!" "He AINT dead" "Oh...."

Heart of Gold:
-"This distress wouldn't happen to be takin place in someones pants?..... bwa." Sooo awesome.

Objects in Space:
-"Are you a bounty hunter?" "No, that aint it at all." "Then what are you?" "I'm a bounty hunter."
-"Are you alliance?" "Am I a lion? Well, i dont think of myself as a lion..."
-"You're on my gorram SHIP!!"
-Pretty much everything about Early. First *REAL* bounty hunter I've ever seen. All the others were just so ordinary...

I like the little dinosaur battle.

I also like in Jaynetown when Simon keeps saying, "no, THIS is what hell must be like."

I'm just having too much trouble picking. I really like all these characters.

I still think one of the cleverest little Jayne moments that often goes unnoticed is when we find out through his reading of a letter that he sends money home.

"You didn't have to wound that man."
"Yeah, I know. It was just funny."

I actually noticed that, because his brother was sick with something. Interesting little background to jayne...

It's his little sister and she's... "Still sick with the dop-long (sp)".

I think it's more a true telling of his nature. He loves his family. His DNA family and his Serenity family.

We see what happens when rat-boy shoots Kaylee. Jayne is going to kill him and isn't going to let a Shepherd stop him. It's only Zoe and her big-ass gun that stop him.

It takes a while but, everyone else becomes family. Book proved himself in battle and other ways and became family - why else would he trust the man to hold weights above his head?

Again it takes a while but, Simon and River are becoming family too. I believe that the Tam's example when he's on the operating table teaches him a lot of respect for what he previously saw as teensy, helpless, city-folk.

I'd say that if the series hadn't been murdered by Fox, by the end of the first season, Jayne would have shaken the snot out of anyone who looked at 'his' River sideways.

"Just keep walkin, preacher man."

OK, OK, my turn:

Let's moon 'em.

Ah, the pitter-patter of little feet in huge combat boots - SHADDUP!!!! (or something along these lines)

In War Stories, the torture scenes with Mal and Wash. Very funny and sick at the same time.

Wash's comment about Saffron offering to wash Mal's feet -
"How quaint!"

"I'll be in my bunk." Nothing else needs to be said on this one.

When Mal first sees River in her "ice box": "Huh." lmao

The conversation between Early and Kaylee about being raped. That is some scary s**t.

Soooo many others to list. Next!!!!!

Talk peace but, carry a BIG stick.

Thanks GEORDIESTEVE2003 for making a new Firefly-Gasm thread.

The one I started has ... what 150 or so posts and I bet it is hard to load for those still on dial-up service!

Very welcome, thought it was time to focus on the good again, there's plenty of other stuff to worry about elsewhere.

Another fave moment for me, in Out of Gas, when Inara is asking him to come with them on the shuttle, and she says you dont have to die alone, and Mal pauses and just says, Everyone dies alone.

Heh, I forgot to put my favorite scene in my previous post...

The whole scene in the Infirmary in "Trash" between Simon and Jayne.

It shows that being tough is not the only 'strength'. That Trust, Honor and Commitment can be just as strong.

Then the VERY funny bit of Jayne looking out at the door saying with fervent hope "Anybody there?...

River slides around the door frame and then Jayne says "Anybody else?..."

Top the whole scene off with River's coda ... "I can kill you with my mind."

"Remember, there is only ONE absolute - There ARE NO absolutes!!!"

Top the whole scene off with River's coda ... "I can kill you with my mind."

I like this bit, cuckoo!!! as Nathan and Alan call her on the commentaries....I see dead people!!!

Another one for me, kind of a sweet moment, it looks so natural and comfortable, when Simon and Kaylee are talking about him becoming a doctor and singing on a statue after graduating, and she is sat with her feet across him. I like that very much.

And of course, I mentioned it previously, but, right at the start, that very bleak moment when Mal stares right out the window in the bunker and sees all his hopes dying and we see his whole world change. Gets me every single time, cos of the acting and the fantastic music, that and the end of the Message are probably my two very favourite moments from the show.

BLINKER

It's his little sister and she's... "Still sick with the dop-long (sp)".

"Damplung." Don't sound like the funnest of sicknesses, does it?

I nominate Book's laugh as he chops away with his knife. In the context of the vicious taunting ("Now where does that put you?") immediately prior, it seems downright maniacal... and our awareness that it's actually innocent may be part of what makes it so creepy.

My Fireflygasms come from

a) War Stories
When Wash says "Bastards not gonna get days"
The look in his eyes is intense.

b)Ariel
When Jayne says "Don't tell em what I did. Make something up"

Although "Is it Christmas?" is a close third :)

Yeah, family. My all time favorite Firefly moment comes at the end of Safe. After everything, after the "big damn heroes" rescue, after Mal explains the facts to Simon, the final shot is everyone around the dinner table. They could have held that shot for 5 minutes as far as I'm concerned. It's one of j's big themes, strangers coming together to form a family (that functions better than most I've seen).

SERENA

You ever notice during that scene around the table (at the end of Safe) when they're passing a bowl of buns around, Jayne takes one then passes the bowl, and River, sitting beside him, calmly reaches over and takes it off his plate and starts eating it. So "family".

Too many to recount:
Bushwacked -
Alliance officer: you fought with Captain Reynolds in the war?
Zoe: I fought with a lot of people in the war.
Alliance officer: and your husband?
Zoe: Fought with him sometimes, too.

Out of Gas -
Jayne: Tell us where the stuff is so I can shoot you.
Mal: Point of Interest: offering to shoot us might not work so well as an incentive as you might imagine.

Safe -
Zoe: The Captain'll come up with a plan.
Kaylee: That's good, right?
Zoe: Apparently you're not recalling some of his previous plans.

War Stories -
River: What am I?
Simon: You are my beautiful sister.
River: I threw up (pause) on your bed.
Simon: Yep, definitely my sister!

And Heart of Gold - the whole double entendra of the scene culminating with my signature -
Mal: Not altogether wise sneakin' up on a fellow when he's handling his weapon.
Inara: I'm sure I've heard that said, but perhaps the dining area isn't the place for that sort of thing.
Mal: What do you mean? It's the only place with a big enough table.
Inara: of course. In that case ...

"Every well bred, petty crook knows that the small, concealable weapons always go to the far left of the place setting."

Hey, Serena, thanks! I totally missed that, I thought Jayne was just being obnoxious taking another one.

If I HAD to pick my very favorite moment in the whole series (but there are so many!!) it would be the scene between Mal and Kaylee in "Serenity" when Kaylee's waking up after being shot. Their whole conversation is so touching, and it's great when she says, "You just have to have faith in people." I love that scene.
