I, like most all of you, really love the feeling of the Firefly 'verse. It's really cool when I find something totally unrelated to the show that has the same feel, or message, or philosophy.

For example, when I first heard Death Cab For Cutie's new(ish) song, "I Will Follow You In To The Dark", it felt just like Firefly. It made me feel the same way I do when I watch the show. First off, the way death is referred to in the song as "the dark" is parallel to the way space is referred to on the show as "the black". Second, it fits with the way people really love each other on the show (in romantic and non-romantic ways), and how they really would - and do - "follow [each other] into the dark". It just kills me; it's great.

So I'm asking everyone to share things that they have encountered that have special meaning for you because you associate it with our favorite show.

oh, P.S. I'm new here, and I've read some really long posts all the way through, which is significant, because I've never done that before on other sites. I like it here.

Welcome to the site! I'll let you know that it is really fun here, and I hope you enjoy it.

As for stuff that reminds me of Firefly, I'd have to say that whenever I see someone wearing blue gloves, I think of those creepy guys in Ariel. It's kinda weird to see someone like making sandwiches or something and you're thinking they can melt your brain...

Welcome igotahamster!

I'm pretty sure we all share your feelings about Firefly. Lately I can't think of anything that doesn't remind me of Firefly or Serenity. Everytime somebody talks to me they unknowingly make some sort of Firefly reference. I remember I time I was trying to convince my friend Rhys to watch the pilot with me, he was reluctant so I told him, "There's a whore". He replied, "Let's watch" he sounded exactly like Jayne in HoG. Actually Rhys is like Jayne in alot of ways so I guess he naturally reminds me of Firefly.

America loves a winner!

This is fun. I live in Atlanta, and near by, there's a town named 'Canton'. ( I think there's a Canton in every state, but oh well. ) Also, there' a fairly big bank that opened up a while back , named 'Haven'.

There's other stuff too, but I can't think of 'em right now.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I work at a major home improvent / hardware retailer in the US.

I am a cashier sometimes .. the other day someone bought some of the unpowdered blue latex gloves when checking out with me.

I hummed "two by two ..." to myself

Everything reminds me of Firefy. Seriously.

Example: Today I was watching the movie Celluar on Encore. The lady slashes the guy's arm with a pice of glass. He quickly begins to lose strength, and looks at her stupidly:
"What'd you do to me?"

"9th grade biology: the [some artery]. It drains 30 gallons of blood a minute. There are only 5 in the human body."

I then turned to my dad who was watching with me and, full of Browncoaty excitement, practically shouted in his face:

"THE HUMAN BODY CAN BE DRAINED OF BLOOD IN 8.6 SECONDS GIVEN ADEQUATE VACCUMING SYSTEMS!!!!!!"

Good to have you here!

Well there are a lot of songs that remind me of Firefly/Serenity. (cheesy moment) 'Rhiannon' by Fleetwood Mac, 'Insect Eyes' by Devendra Banhart, 'Zombie' The Cranberries. In fact I am now inspired to do a Firefly playlist! Even this one song by Fergie because in one verse she says 'peace, serenity'

_____

"You know that's gonna fall off."
-----Nathan Fillion (to me while drunk)

How are ships unlike food?
1. If you try it and don't like it, you don't have to do it again.
2. You can have as much as you want, when you want.
3. Cravings can be very specific.
I mean, hello it's not as if there's 'ship police?

I used to donate plasma for some extra scratch, and they switched to blue latex gloves. That was before Serenity came out, and after I had pretty much put Firefly out of my head. I came in to donate and saw them and it gave me an uneasiness but wasn't sure why. And they usually had two people working the counter and for some reason unbeknownst to me I walked up to the counter to check in and blurted out "two by two, hands of blue." Needless to say they had no clue what I was referencing and neither did I, in point of fact. About halfway through my donation it all came flooding back to me like one of River's memories. A couple of months later it came full circle when I saw reruns on Sci-Fi in preparation of the movie.

Everyday just walking around here in Hong Kong reminds me of Firefly. That weird mix of English and Chinese, sometimes I look up into the sky and expect to see ships flying around.

Welcome home, igotahamster. Magic mousie
says you're #24504 to join our shiny, shiny
crew.

Have a strawberry. Have a mug of Mudder's Milk.

Check out the wife soup on the buffet in the
galley.

We're mighty glad to have you here. Mayhap we
can attract the attention of one of the coat-
mongers.

Most recent Firefly reminder here was when I was
tossing out some old stuff and came across one
of those little, drink-sized paper parasols. No
way was I pitching out that little treasure.

Spread the Firefly love!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site Igotahamster! Glad to have you here.

There are a lot of little things that remind me of Firefly. A song, an old western movie, my feelings or reaction to certain situations, or something similar. It is amazing how deeply Firefly has touched me and my life, the levels it has affected me on.

This is so funny. Something happened to me last night on the graveyard shift at work and I thought that it would be so cool to share it with other browncoats. But at the same time I didn't think that it really qualified for it's own thread. But here you are IGOTAHAMSTER (welcome) and asking the very thing that I wanted to relate about things that remind me of FF. Also I see that it isn't unique. There are already some other post like this.

Anyhoo, here goes.A co-worker recived a somewhat small injury at work about 3 weeks ago. It did require stitches to his hand. He went to the doctor and was placed on light-duty and his hand was wrapper pretty well in bandages to keep it clean. This past weekend the bandage was removed but he was told that he still had to take caution and keep the injury clean. I saw him from a distance and he waved to me and holy moly he had on a blue latex glove

I had to laugh out loud on that one.

DJIRONMAN

My deep subconscious seems to find a way to compare Firefly/Serenity to the most unrelated topics. I remember one time I was watching the Man vs Wild on the discovery channel and Bear Grylls ran into a pride of lions.

I asked myself, "did they bring lions onto the ship when they flew from Earth-that-was? Did they bring any animals, like Noah's Ark-style? That must have sucked to have to be the guy to watch over them." I realized what I was saying and was like, "WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH MAN VS WILD?!"

sigh* what can a man do when he's faced with the Firefly Blues...

VALERIEBEAN

1. I've had the blue-hand experience and since I've converted 4 other work-folk to Firefly, we all giggle together whenever one of the engineers is wandering around with blue gloves.

2. This one is "interesting". I was in the car with my sister, mother, and grandmother. My sister was driving and she missed our turn, so at the next light, she pulled a sharp U-turn (not exactly legal in maryland) and we all held our breath as we avoided another car making a right turn. Being on the passenger side (in mortal peril!), I thought of Wash and shouted "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die!" We didn't crash that time, but the line did have the desired result of breaking the tension and everyone erupted into giggles.
