FISKMASEN

Okay, I got a question. Since I'm on the bad side of the big sea, so to say (Sweden, more precisely), I don't get all the tv goodness from US of A (or lack thereof since there's no more Firelfy). What I'm asking is this; we, the Browncoats, seem to be alot of people. So.. does the tv-networks give a half hump about what those who pay (that's us I s'pose) wants to see on TV, or is the reason we don't have a new season FOX holding the rights?
Because I know Joss has said he never want to work with FOX again, who can blame him?
But is it really that difficult for another network to aquire those rights? Or is it yet again a question of costs?
Excuse me for my broken english-grammar, and thanks for all the possible answers. (:

MIRCEA

While there are a fair number of browncoats, we're a pretty insignificant share of the viewing public. So, no, the networks don't really care what we want. They want to pander to the shows that have the largest followings.

As for how hard it is to buy the rights or why Fox won't sell the rights, I couldn't really say. I'm afraid I just don't know that much about it.

I think nighttime is dark so you can imagine your fears with less distraction.

SISTER

Hello Fiskmasen! Welcome to our obsession. We really don't know why no other network has either sought/tried/attempted or stolen Joss Whedon's wonderful Firefly universe! I know from my own small experience (just since Aug. 2006) that more and more people join this board and other Firefly/Serenity boards every day of every week. I believe Joss said not terribly long ago that even HE doesn't know who owns the rights to the television show anymore. The actors all signed contracts for up to two sequels of "Serenity"...but those contracts expire in Sept. and there's been absolutely no word of another film. All we can do is keep hoping...keep pushing (vote for Firefly as best TV show ever at www.richlabonte.net/tvvote - it probably doesn't mean anything but it feels good.. when I started voting Firefly was like 7th or 8th..now it's at #3)...keep sending letters to Universal...if you have SciFi Channel in Sweden, you can sign up on their forums and beg for more Firefly marathons.. That's about all we can do as "audience"...we have no real say in ANYTHING studios do. But, there are a bunch of us buying lotto tickets when we can and if we win the big bucks...WE'LL pay for the rights to bring back our favorite show.. hope that helps some.
