Thank you Fox Searchlight and Congrats to Nathan!

I love Keri Russell (a guy friend actually introduced me to "Felicity" and it's much more enjoyable than I ever expected. just started the final season.) so I'm really excited to see their combined chemistry/acting talent.

Oh, and here's a link to a review of sorts. He seemed to quite like it. :)

Thanks for posting this, IHeart, I've been poking around all day trying to find news on "Waitress".
Fillion stock continues to rise. Excellent news!

You're welcome! I read somewhere that this one may be the next "Little Miss Sunshine." That would be amazing for Nathan. :)

"Waitress" is said to be the LMS of this year's Festival. And since LMS was nominated for an Oscar this morning... that's good company.

It sold to Fox Searchlight for $5 million which is excellent and means that it will be distributed and shown in theaters. So more Nathany goodness.

Congrats to cast and crew for a job well done and a word of respect for Adrienne Shelly, the director.
I wish she was here to see the success and share in the joy they must be feeling.

My fellow attendees of "Flanvention I" may recall that Nathan wasn't present on Friday. He was filming "Waitress" at that time.

It's nice to hear that the film is being well received. Yay Nathan!

This is the kind of news that gives me hope as a regular film geek. It's one thing to see our BDH's to do guest appearances on sci-fi shows and small bits in mainstream movies. But it's another thing to see them being given the opportunity to do a part in something out of their range and while not mainstream, at least something more prestigious. So it's nice to see Nate in something like this or Gina Torrens as Chris Rock's wife in I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE, which if you've seen the trailers for looks like an actual intelligent romantic comedy.

Maybe if years down the line I do my BEFORE SUNRISE/SUNSET/TRUE ROMANCE pastiche and demand that Jewel and Sean be my leads, it wouldn't take that much to convince producers and investors.

Also, I'd like to see the film to see if it has that "swan song" quality. You know how when you watch EYES WIDE SHUT or A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION and you get that sense of a filmmaker pouring every last bit of his or her being into it because they have a sense that they'd be soon gone for good that makes the film all the more magical? I'd like to see if that's conveyed in WAITRESS.

Me too!! I love it!

Oh, and here is another great review at Cinematical. I love how she admits her silly Fillion fangirlness. ;)

So let me just say that while I hadn't been familiar with Adrienne Shelly's work before this, I'm a big fan now. If there's a heaven, she's looking down and smiling. And eating pie.

Hey, thanks for helpin' out, FollowMal. I can always count on you! ;)

So, Entertainment Weekly has a video clip type thing of their Sundance party up and guess who gets the most camera-time?
...That's right, our Captain. He gets in his jokes and they keep rolling. Very nice. And how is he not a really big star? I just don't get it. Anyways, enjoy...

I just don't get it either IHeartFirefly. Actually, I think him being a big star is right around the corner. With "Waitress" being a hit at Sundance, "Drive" to hit tv soon ( and I think "Drive" is going to be big! ) I think Nathan's star is on the rise.

We AN crew members have been remarking the last couple of days that this is going to get so big for him that perhaps he'll get so far away from his beginning here as our Captain that he'll be distant.
Then the BrownQuote generator showed up on his myspace account today and proved our concern was for naught. I don't think Nathan will ever get so big in Hollywood that he forgets he's our Captain.

Thanks for the vid link.

I am definitely sharing the excitement over this - both for the opportunity to see Nathan again on the big screen, and for what it means for his career. This is a project that all sorts of people who blow off his previous projects will take notice of.

Well, by all accounts, Ms. Shelly did pour her heart and soul into the film, but I can't imagine she had any inkling of the tragic fate that was to befall her.

...Yeah, he was totally in love "Firefly" and I really can't imagine him ever forgetting the fans who loved it along with him.
He doesn't seem the type who forgets from whence he came. It seems as though he also has a pretty great family to keep him grounded.

I actually just found last night a place to download all of the tons of awesome extra features on the "Serenity" disk that I didn't even know we didn't get here in America ( http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0OVLJ18) and I was just re-reminded of how much the whole crew LOVED their roles and each other. It was so sweet.

New, glowing review of "Waitress"...

Fillion -- best-known for glorified B-material like Firefly and Slither -- also gets to show off an unexpected flair for light, stumbling comedy while playing a romantic lead with a real sense of confusion and sweetness.

Clearly, the reviewer has not actually seen Firefly. ;)

Ok, I seem to just keep talking to myself in this thread. :)
But, what the heck. Here's another great little "Waitress" blurb:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20070127.SUNDANCE27/T
PStory/TPEntertainment/Movies
/

Quote:

The popular Waitress stars Keri Russell as Jenna, an abused wife and talented pie maker who discovers to her horror that she's pregnant, and then falls in love with her neurotically twitchy gynecologist (Canadian actor Nathan Fillion). The supporting cast includes Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Andy Griffith, in a small-town story that resonates with Southern kookiness.

...neurotically twitchy?? There's something new.

You'd have to struggle to get a word in edgewise if you join us over in Mal's (once again functioning) Bunk. 'Course, I suppose we ANers really should get out more...

I have to say, though, I'm not so sure I'd want my gynecologist to be "twitchy"!

The infamous Mal's Bunk is a password protected subforum on the serenitymovie.org site. To get access, you need to join the Appreciatin' Nathan team over there. This should link you to the "Member Teams" page:
http://www.serenitymovie.org/browncoats/forums/index.php?autocom=teams

Appreciatin' Nathan is the second team listed, and the link to join is to the far right. There's only one person with the ability to add you to the roster, so it may take a few days if she's busy or out of town. In the mean time, you can join in on the Appreciatin' Nathan thread in the (non-password protected) General Discussions section. Here's a link to one of the most recent pages of the AN thread:
http://www.serenitymovie.org/browncoats/forums/index.php?showtopic=51&
st=7230

If you're not already registered at serenitymovie.org , you'll probably have to do that first. If you have any problems or questions, feel free to PM me (or FollowMal, if I may be so bold) through fff.net.

All Nathan appreciators are welcome! Hope you can join us!

What the heck is up with the email notifications around here??
I'm glad I happened to get back to this thread to get the Mal's Bunk info. I remember trying once in the past to join the AN crew but I kept going in a loop on the site and eventually gave up. :/

But now that I have instruction, I will brave it again. Thank you! And see you soon over there, I'm sure. :)

EDIT: Oh, hey also, here's another link to a Nathan "Waitress" interview. The longest and sexiest-voiced Nathan interview I have heard in a while. ;)

If you didn't get the message notification, then you probably didn't get the PM I sent you, either. There's already a member named "I_HEART_FIREFLY" on the roster - so if that is you, you're already on the crew. All you would need is the password, which, if it doesn't automatically show up for you on the Member Teams page (like it is/was supposed to), can be PMed or emailed. My notifications seem to be working, so you can PM me or FollowMal your email so we can get that to you! But even if you have trouble getting into the bunk, you can pop into the AN thread anytime, and we can figure it out there.
