I know Joss worked on Toy Story which was an awesome movie and Titan AE, which I personally was disappointed in. BtVS the movie did not do well in the theaters. My question:

How much did Joss contribute to these screenplays and how much did he write?

I ask only because as much as I love Joss's ability to write excellent programming it seems his attempts in movies usually come up short. I am hoping that these bad movies he was involved with were ruined by others messing with his writing. Basically, does anyone know particulars?

"Whoa, good Bible."

Joss's movie writing career is quite complicated but I'll try my best to explain what I know. The first movie script he wrote was 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' however the original script was a lot darker and was changed by the studio, although I don't know to what extent. The film was rushed into production and Donald Sutherland kept changing his lines, no one got what Joss was trying to do so he walked off the production. He has been a script doctor for 'Speed', 'Twister', 'Waterworld' and 'X-Men'. In most cases he was just hired to changed diologue, add a few jokes and set pieces but he did a substantial re-write for the original 'X-Men' script but only a couple of lines of his remain in the final film. He also added the third act for 'Speed' at the studios request. For 'Alien: Resurrection' he first did a draft WITHOUT Ripley (which I would love to read) but the studio requested he write a threatment with her in it. IMO he did a pretty good job with it but the film was poorly directed and the script certainly needed working on.

"Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

Pretty much everything you want to know is in this interview done a few years ago.

(the 2nd link is the part of the same interview that they had to cut out of the first link)
