I have an idea that I have already enacted here in the twin cities. I call it "FireFly it forward". It is like the “Pay it forward” idea but what I am doing is buying the complete series on DVD and given it to people. People I know would like it, that have never seen it, with the understanding that if they like it they buy it for someone else and so on. I see it like this, I would be spending the money on season 2 and 3 and 4 and 5... If the Fox network were not complete morons, so thusly I am buying it for my friends in hopes that maybe I'll, one day, be able to buy season 2, and 3 and 4 at the very least buy Serenity 2 or something. The more people that take part the better chance we all have.

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

Welcome, I see by your number you are new. Most of us on the boards have done this over and over again, every holiday we buy Firefly and Serenity to give to anybody and everybody. We have given them to libraries, and we also have them going up on SST-117(I could have the wrong # there). We have extra copies of both so we can watch while we loan out the other copy,....but the idea of asking people to purchase and pass on is something different. Maybe it will work, keep up the brain storming!!!!

That's a great idea, wOOch! As FillyGirl says similar to what we've done before, but not exactly what we've done before. Have you posted this in the guerilla marketing forum down below General Discussion... they're always looking for new ideas there.

Welcome to the site! We're glad you've joined us and we're glad you've already done so much to promote the 'Verse. We all hope for more and do what we can to help that happen.

New Browncoats get a new virtual browncoat upon signup around here... a gesture of welcome and inclusion.

*hands wOOch a browncoat from the storeroom*

Make yourself to home.. I hope you come to love it here as much as I do. Post often, we love to talk and love to hear new ideas and thoughts.
Someone like as not will be along with food and drink for you.

I work in a video store so whenever anybody is looking for something new to watch I reccomend Firefly and Serenity. Not too mention everytime i work i make sure both can be seen in palin site as often as possible. Sdaly I don't have a ton of disposbale income right now so i can't buy copies for other people but I do try and get as many copies in as many people's hands as possible.....

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the site w00ch! Glad to have you here. Hope you feel inclined to make yourself at home.

I think your idea is a good one, for them as can afford it. Most of us here have been giving the Firefly dvd set and Serenity dvds away as gifts and to promote the show for a while now. Maybe not necessarily the same way as you, but the intent was the same: to grow the ranks of the browncoats.

Keep up the good work and we look forward to hearing more from you.

I'm sorry MattFromGeekStuff I am not always around when a new person joins and I miss the chance to give them their browncoat. We had the idea that we'd have a place to greet new folks and I could check there all the time and be sure to include folks, but that sort of fell by the wayside. So..if I miss folks or some of the other folks who greet folks and occasionally give out 'coats miss anyone.. say so like Matt did and we'll catch up to you.

*hands Matt a browncoat from the storeroom*

There you are.. now you've got your gear.

I thank you all for you're generous hospitality; I take it as a kindness, and am much appreciative.

This isn't the first time I've tried this Idea. I had a "Family Guy it forward" thing that I started in Missouri when I lived there in 2002ish... I'm not saying I did it single handed but we got Fox to fix their F up there and got Family Guy back. I love Firefly C><3... infinitely more than Family Guy, and I don't want to stop 'till I have More Mal, Zoe, Inara, Jayne, Kaylee, Simon, River, and Maybe somehow Wash and Book. This is too great of a story to not be told. It's like the first time you see Bogart and Bacall together on screen and you know you only have like 4 movies where you can see that chemistry, and all you want is more, that we can't fix this we can. I want more of this Cast, this chemistry, this Tale still to be Told. With all the lus-suh on TV there is NO REASON, Firefly should not still be flying. It is far more worthy the 90% of the go-se that’s on TV still. I’m sorry but when I get on a rant about something I love it get a bit long winded.

It doesn't have to be Firefly/Serenity it forward, because the second that they are hooked on Firefly, Serenity is a certainty. Plus with the complete season, it leaves you wanting more. It is what made me want to fight to bring it back, because the first thing people ask as soon as they watch through disk 1 is, what channel are they on now…”What they canceled this?!?!?” Then they go to serenity then they want more. I realize that I don’t really need to tell you all this because I venture to guess that we have all, to some degree, walked that path. All “Firefly it forward” is doing is putting that path in front of them.

"I don't care what you believe in. Just believe in something." (sorry,if I blew that quote no time to look it up, I'll correct it later if need be)
I believe in this.
"Shepherd Book used to tell me, 'Can't do somethin' smart, do somethin' right'."

Yes, once I've gathered sufficient funds, I'm gonna buy a set of the DVDs to ship off to my friend in Connecticut. She's the one who convinced me to give sci-fi a chance in the first place!

Like many I do not have a great deal of money available, so I copied the first two episodes (Serenity and Train job) and handed them out to friends & family, with one exception everyone I gave one too picked up the box set within a few weeks.

It's too bad we're not all fans of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". 'Cause then we could all "Pay It 10-Forward".

Wish I could afford to do this. Unfortunately, the people I think would enjoy it (if I could get them to bother to look past their ignorant, snobbish opinions of BUFFY & ANGEL) I would never trust with my one and only copy (they've borrowed movies from me before and only returned some of them). However, if I did anyway, they are also the kinds of people who would look down on me for spending money on DVDs in the first place, so I know they wouldn't buy it themselves even if they liked it.

"You're hitting on all the selling points..." I usually pick up 2 copies when ever I see on sale for $20 at BestBuy or Target or Circuit City, and I hand them out as I find people that come over and see it, or just as I find people that would like it. This is a small time effort, it not like I'm handing them out by the case, just one or two here and there as I can afford it maybe one a month,or less. I do like the idea of making a copy of one or 2 episodes, I hate people that pirate stuff that is fighting to stay afloat. 1 or 2 episodes is fine but not the whole series, it's 20 bucks... suck it up, as for everyone else if you can't afford it thats fine, I can afford 20 bucks here and there. If I could I would just give it straight to Joss for a Fight for Firefly and/or Save the Serenity fund. Hell I'd finance the show and/or movie myself if I had enough. I can't wait to see her hit the sky again and it can't come soon enough.

New convert, maybe two! I'd been talking Firefly up to friends and offered to loan them the series/movie a few times.
I loaned them my copy of the soundtrack. Turns out he'd gone and bought a copy of the box set that day.

Thats what I love to hear. Not everyone has to be as in love with firefly as much as most of us, but it is up to us to start the love for as many people as possible. What I love about this FireFlyFans.net, it a bunch of people that I love firefly as much as me, we are the X factor and we are the ones that can change the ending of this story. I love to hear about people falling in love with this show.

I like your enthusiasm w00ch! I also try and recruit new Browncoats as often as possible. I won't admit this very often , but as I meet new people I am secretly sizing them up thinking hmm .. Firefly Fan?

I also did the Firefly gifting at Christmas, it sure made my holiday shopping a breeze ..especially with that $20 price tag this year (the movie was 7.99 at Borders too).

I see that you are also a fellow MN Browncoat.. I hope you come check out our site
http://www.mnfirefly.com/portal/html/
We have a good time on the boards and our frequent Shindigs! The music on the main page is from our last shindig played by fellow members violyns and captain tightpants.

I will always keep "Fireflying it forward"!

Hmmm, someone mentioned Minnesota. Seems like fans in that state are arranging a Serenity Charity Screening in June 2007.

Yes! We are planning a screening , the posters have been received ( I personally haven't seen them but I hear they look shiny). I believe the theater is being reserved for June 23rd according to our poll results. There is a chance some LIVE music, may be played by a very talented violinist :).. (here is your cue..violyns). We had a talented duo play at our last shindig . You can listen to the music at our homepage just scroll to the bottom of the page and you can hear everything from the crackle of the fire to our singing of "Hero of Canton"
