Since this is my first time going to the Con I need a little help. I am looking for a decent affordable hotel near the conference site (no overflow sites have been listed yet). So far by just doing a light search it seems like the Travelodge would be within walking distance and my price range but I was wondering if those of you who have been to the Con before might have a better suggestion. So if you have been to the Con, know the layout of the land, and what hotels are decent and close please clue a Browncoat in. Thanks.

HELL'S KITTEN

Hallo -

Go to the D*C hotels page and pick out one of the three main hotels. Pop its address into MapQwest (or the like), and hit search. Then there's the option of viewing hotels near that address. There are about 150 of 'em.

I did that and put the link into tinyurl for you, here:

Cheers.

Thanks for the link HK. It looks like my first search was correct. It's always good to have another source though.

MIMA

It's not worth the savings to stay anywhere but at one of the big 3 where it happens.
imo

Lots and lots of walking (and waiting) is done at D*C. If you don't mind all that, staying elsewhere isn't a big deal. I find myself constantly going back to my hotel room during the convention, for various reasons, so I don't think I would ever stay anywhere other than the 3 main hotels. But I am lazy.

If you can find people to share hotel room expenses with, I think it's definitely worth paying to stay at one of the 3 main hotels.

(On the other hand, if you're going alone and are a wee girl like myself, walking around downtown Atlanta at night to get back to an off-the-beaten-path hotel may not be the best of ideas.)

Price trumps laziness (I'll carry a backpack). I am going with my bf and the big 3 are way out of our price range. Everyone I know has already got people to share their room with anyway.

I used to live in the Atlanta area and if you're concerned about price, I would not rule out the MARTA system.
You could stay outside of town at a lower rate and take the train into town. The hotel is near the Peachtree Center stop. And MARTA has a visitor pass with pre-paid charge for unlimited travel.
Check out the website:

www.itsmarta.com

I would recommend staying on the North or Northeast side of town, somewhere outside of I-285. If you're concerned about the quality of a hotel, look it up on tripadvisor.com. That's where I do all my travel research. I'm a very, very picky traveler.

I don't know where the travel lodge is, and i've been the past 3 years..... maybe i'm not observant. But check the Days Inn. It's usually less expensive, has a decent diner on the ground floor is only about 1 block from the Hyatt, which is the first of the convention hotels. The marriott is directly behind it, and the Hilton directly behind that.

edit: the only problem with depending on MARTA is it shuts down during the late night.

FIREFLYGAL

Been there, done that with regard to staying off site. Won't do it again. It is WAY early enough to find some roommates, post a roommate thread right to this board. If the only way you can come is to stay offsite, then do so but try every avenue to stay in one of the 3 main hotels!

Second if you know for sure you will come, get your tickets now, you'll save some money.

I aim to misbehave!
