Whitefall, the part I'm not seeing (could be missing it) is where you say that you're interested in her. Are you? Cause you don't want to go leading her on if you aren't feeling anything towards her.

Even if you do, that quote was nice and vague from her. I'd just flat out ask if she's interested in you. Then again I'm not mr. casinova or anything. Still I'm a fan of getting everything out in the open and being honest with each other.

I'm the last person I'd come to for advice on this subject, but I'd say that while you don't want to rush into things, like zeek said you should try and figure where you stand with each other. Spending about six months doing that and discovering you really like her and she's not interested would really suck. So while you don't want to rush things, don't take forever either, cause that sucks too. But I'm the last person I'd come to, so I should be the last person you listen to as well, listen to the others first.

I am still in the process of grokking everything that it means or might mean. After getting the boys in her van, we stood in front of it. She looked into the van at Him, then looked at me, and her last words to me before she got in to leave were "I messed up." Huh.

It is 41 degrees. First time in over a month its been over freezing. Is Spring here? I hope so.

Dug, your post is essentially the reason I am taking the truck.

I have just recently gotten my self out of debt (Hoo-Rah, Marine Style) and have sworn not to let it happen again. No credit cards. I don't buy what I don't need (generally), and we are finally able to have a savings account AND a college fund.

Dora is a 1994 Explorer. Element is a 2004.
A free 2004 Element, for the cost of titleing it in MD and hauling it up here.

My lack of debt-iness is also causing some friction in the Mav household. Husband is vehemently against my going to DragonCon. Too expensive for essentially 48 hours.
I want to go. Doesn't help that he's pointing out we just got out of a hole and now I want to have us starting climbing back in.

Mavs, sorry to hear about D*C being too expensive, it would be so incredibly cool to meet you.

Maybe you could put away $50 a paycheck (possibly going without a personal luxury, I dunno) to keep from going in the hole again. Honestly, I didn't buy anything more than 2 BDH signatures and sustinence for the whole weekend for around $350-400, including hotel and gas (given, I had a much shorter drive than you would).

thanks- After careful consideration, I decided I would have to fly to Atlanta rather than drive. I can't drive 18 hours by myself. I have yet to find a flight for under $300 round trip. That, the cost of the room, board, & of course swag, makes it around $700 (at minimum) for me.

After scrimping & saving for several years to pay off debt, we need to put that money towards some house things - Cause I hate praying that the AC in my house will hold out for another year. And the furnace.
(My house was built in 1958 and the furnace dates from about the early 70's. Looks like we squeeked through another winter with it...)

Gorramit, I hate it when Husband is right. That's my job.

So here's an impoderable for you guys. Do certain regions of the country just have different standards for uh...skankiness? I mean I lived most of my life in the chicago suburbs so maybe I'm programmed to find that area's style to be classy or something. However, down in Austin, TX it just doesn't seem like there are all that many classy women out there. It seems more like downtown is populated by skanky chicks here.

It's especially noticeable when I travel back to Chicago for whatever reason and I'm like a kid in a candy store. Is it just that I'm programmed to like the chicago area women or something? Anybody else ever feel the same way? Am I just sounding nuts?

NVG: Really like the story...and the moral behind it. But, being the cynic I am, I had to go a-lookin for some information to verify before I go spouting "did you know Capt. Kangaroo was a military hero?" Snopes verifies part of the story (Marvin in wounded and awarded purple heart (not Navy Cross), but debunks others: Kangaroo never saw action, certainly not at Iwo Jima, and Mr. Rogers was never in the military.

VeX - no worries, and you can talk about her all you like (several people have already taken the liberty to let me know exactly what they think of her, which I appreciate). I am still processing everything, feelings included.

Zeek - I think that is completely valid. Personally, I know I definitely have a thing for southern girls, but I have lived here for all 26 years of my life. Not to say that I don't like girls from other parts of the country (or world, so I don't get jumped on [though I wouldn't mind being jumped on by most of them ]). The fact that they can tear somebody down with a sweet voice and a smile on their face, well, it does it for me.

I also tend to prefer pale skinned redheads with freckles and green eyes, which I am going to attribute to my scots-Irish blood, but it is not a function of social conditioning, at least not first hand.

I don't know about America but in England the women of Newcastle tend to dress very skanky. You can always tell which of the university students aren't from Newcastle because they tend to dress more conservatively.

Just dropping in for a minute to say hi. Hi everyone!

Having lived in Austin, I'll agree with Zeek: the girls who hang out in downtown Austin (especially Sixth Street) do dress skanky. I think it's due to Austin's combination of being a safe town, a college town, the only liberal enclave in Texas, and having unusually warm temperatures long after sunset. It's warm enough and safe enough to dress like that, so the college girls flaunt it, and everyone else does it to piss of the neighboring conservatives.

That said, a lot of fairly normal people live in Austin as well. Once you get out of downtown, people seem to be less skanky, even when they are dressing for the summer heat. My parents live in a cute, quiet little housing development in south Austin, and I loved north Austin when I lived there. I also hear that they have a great group of Browncoats out there.

NV- see now I love Mr. Rogers and I named my first teddy bear Mr. GreenJeans:) Good story NV:)

Morning or afternoon all. Ah the frantic pace of school:) I do feel better having gotten a nice long weekend with plenty of Annie and Wyatt time.

Ghostrider was surprisingly good! I would recommend it. Nick Cage did a great job balancing the darkness and humor. It was somewhat campy, but not irretrievably so. I laughed a lot and really enjoyed it. So go see it:)

Whitefall- don't look so hard at the leaves that you slam headlong into a tree:) HUGS and congrats on the part:)

Rugbug- good luck on the clinic. Hope it goes well.

I didn't say hi to everyone, so HI!

I'm glad to be back on FFF.net, but not glad to be back at work after a long weekend. Days away from work DO NOT make the heart grow fonder.

Zeek, I absolutely believe you get used to and are attracted by the types of people you were raised around and live around.

If you grew up with city chic, beach casual is probably going to seem frumpy and unkempt. And what is skanky in one part of the country/world, is not skanky in another. I see some women from big cities and think they look like massive ho-bags and they're characterizing themselves as classy and high society. It MUST be regional, right?

Oh, edited to say: I love the show 'What Not to Wear' and they had an Austin episode wear they took three single women and re-did their wardrobes. Let's just say they had some issues. Skanky issues...well, one didn't, but the two others did. Skank-tastic. Too tight clothes...too much skin, etc. Maybe it's the combination of heat and hippy-laid back atmosphere...but I wasn't impressed. I mean, there's a difference with dressing out of fashion and dressing like two-bit hooker. There were more than a few in the footage that fit into the second category.

m'm, i'd have to disagree when it comes to what attracts you, well, certainly in my case (although i could just be not-quite-right ) 'cos in spite of having been brought up 20 miles from anywhere in the middle of what passes for nowhere over here (20 miles is a long way by british standards =P ) in fat, league of gentlemen fans can add scottish accents to royston vasey and you'll pretty much have where i came from, and i've never yet slept with a sheep. Oh, right, point, i had one...yes! yep, i don't find too many limits on what kinda clothes/make-up i find attractive on women, from beach-casual through to city-chic. well okay, possibly not track-suits. and i DO think it's possible for a woman to wear ostensibly skanky clothes without looking skanky, but i couldn't tell you what it is about them that makes it work.

well, okay, so i have a bit of a soft-spot for redheads...but, other then that no preferances 8-)

Yay I'm not crazy! Or we're both crazy! Hmmm...I'll go with option #1.

I just can't see finding a real relationship downtown most of the time. I mean there has to be needles in the haystack obviously, but it just seems pointless to try to find a real girl down there.

Also the attitude with which it is worn changes the intent.

Hugs MSG. Thanks for the thoughtful cards and the like.

I posted the story this morning with the thought of, "I'm not doing all that I should." It feels like there is so much in front of me that I might have to rent a 'dozer just to plow away all the shit. Does anyone else feel like that? I'm sure most of you do. But I'm really afraid of plowing away the wrong shit. My bestest friend told me not to give up so soon on love no matter where it comes from. Is that healthy thinking?

I really wonder about my preferances now that everyone seems to be discussing them. My eye has wandered waaay beyond my usual preferances and toward some women I'd prviously found lacking appeal. And not just physical appeal. Just rambling here. I'm leaving early for a "Mental Health Day" sometime this afternoon.

Think I'll go see Ghost Rider. Of course there's a story behind that too.

ADD: I just got to hear a kid who looks alot like me ask, "What happens if my mom don't want me back?"
Add that to the list of kicks in the nuts.

I agree. The trick is moderation. You balance the skin. If you are showing the shoulders or cleavage, you dont show the legs. Legs out and about? A less revealing top is in order. Keep 'em guessing a bit. That's sexy. He should have to use some imagination to picture you naked.

Same with make-up...subtle moderation. Doing up the eyes? play down the lips. Going for the luscious lips? Go basic and light on the eyes.

And if you walk around acting like you'd jump anything that breathes, you can make the most demure sundress look like fishnets and a leather teddy.

(Speaking of which...Victoria's Secret has a gift for this. Something with the way the models stand plus facial expressions. Jut the hip, arch the back and open your mouth a bit. Yep...that business suit might as well be a garters, g-string and push-up. Heh.)
