I was at the NYCC Battlestar Galactica special event this saturday where the great Kevin Smith was the moderator. James Callis (Baltar) was dicussing the amazing CGI on the show, and mentioned a scene where Mary is standing in front of a window with spaceships flying by outside. Someone in the audience instantly shouted "Serenity", which caused a lot of the Whedon fans in the audience to do the same.

Callis did not understand, and replied that he wouldn't know because had never seen the show, to which Smith replied "Dude, you don't want to fuck with the Browncoats. They're cheering a show that's not even on".

Also Tricia Helfer (Six) mentioned that she used to date Nathan during the Firefly filming and that she was one of us.

The BtVS panel prior to BSG was less memorable..

"You're my kind of stupid"

Thanks for letting us know about it!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Think we need to find out who Mr Callis's agent is and get a DVD box set sent to him.

Shiny! I think I'm gonna use that as my sig, if you don't mind.

Somebody might have also mentioned that ZOIC Studios produce BSG's "amazing CGI" effects, as they did for Firefly/Serenity. BSG owes a lot to Firefly, I reckon...

Respectfully,

P.S.
That Nathan Fillion is the luckiest s.o.b. on the face of the planet... And how/why does one tell The Exquisite Trish, "Sorry, babe, but it's just not working out. I'm gonna have to let you go"?!? 'Course, she might've been the one who pulled the plug on the 'dating'... Nah. That's just nonsense thinking.

That is a GREAT story! Thanks for passing it on. Sure wish I could have been there. Don't suppose there was anyone recording it?

And does anyone have any connections to James Callis' agent, and volunteer to get him a boxset?

So it sounds like he hasn't seen it. Guess he was just very aware of the passion that Browncoats carry with them everywhere they go.

Someone needs to get a box and the Serenity DVD to him, fast. Believe me, if he were to like it and blog about it, it would reach a looooot of shiny people.
If someone would send me his address, I'd buy both on amazon and have his address as the recepient, and we could add a shiny little message. I'm in the mood to do some browncoatish goodness.

I do not know a lot about Kevin Smith. I do know that at one time he was creator of some comics and that he's appeared in several movies. Daredevil seems to be the one that I remember.

Anyhoo, someone into si/fi and comics as much as he is and he's never having seen FF/Serenity? Whats the deal? Kevin, dude you need to see this show. Then you won't be concerned about pi$$ing-off any browncoats. You'll be one youself

Kevin Smith is the writer/director of...

Clerks
Mall Rats
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back
Jersey Girl
Clerks 2

He also played the character of Silent Bob in every one of those movies except for Jersey Girl, had a few minor roles in other flicks (like the aforementioned Daredevil) and wrote a lot of shiny comic book mini series.

Apparently these people were:

http://www.yourmomsbasement.com/archives/2007/02/nycc_battlestar.html

I'm checking them out to find the part where he says this (which I will then supply).

Edit: Part 3, I do believe (got through the first two, haven't heard it, so don't kill me if it's not there)

Edit 2: About 2:30 before it ends (still Part 3)

Don't know the address but I'm guessing that if you sent it to his comic book store "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash" that it might get to him.

The one in Jersey or in California? And do you really thing it would reach him that way? I dunno how often he drops by, and an employee could keep it for himself or something (I'm not accusing them, but, you know, could happen.).
