[Pitches to host the 2008 Browncoat Ball are now being accepted. Deadline: 30 April 2007.]

2007 Browncoat Ball in Philadelphia

Philadelphia is one of the oldest and most historically significant cities in the United States. Philadelphia was the center of the independence movement during the American Revolutionary War. The Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were both written in Philadelphia, and signed in Independence hall. In the 18th century, Philadelphia was the first US Capital and the most populous city in the United States.

So get ready to break out your fanciest duds, immerse yourself in the history of the independent spirit, and once again rub elbows with Browncoats from all over the country (and beyond).

What: 2007 Browncoat Ball
When: 28-30 September 2007
Where: Philadelphia, PA (USA)
Updates: http://www.browncoatball.com/ (coming soon)

The announcement is just going out how, so give the Philly crew a while to get their engine spinning and take over the web site and such. But mark this on your calendar now, and start courting your favorite companion. This is going to be something to behold!

See you all at the ball,

--Ray Hill (spokesmodel for the Browncoat Ball Committee)

Is there any info, even the vaguest of vague ballpark figures, on what kind of price we're looking at?

(Shiny shiny shiny! I'm so looking forward to this... I always thought Philly never got any of the real fancy stuff. Thanks for proving me wrong!)

The Philly crew is still figuring out the details for this year's ball. But as a ballpark, the 2006 BCB was $150 for the whole weekend.

The $150 is for the event itself. Hotel will be extra.

I can only guess at what they will be planning, so here are my two cents. The typical dinner/dances I go to are around $70 for a single evening which includes finger-foods (horsey doovers?), dinner, a decent sized dancefloor, and a professional show/demo. So this is actually a better deal since it could include two dinner/dances (the first casual/semi-formal and the other formal?), siteseeing and whatever else they may decide to throw in.

They may even break up events so you only pay for the events you want to attend. This is good for locals who don't want to pay for a hotel room and the not-so-locals who can only make one or two of the events. I tend to favor doing it as a package deal as I'm in it for the interaction. My experience is that you never know when the best stuff happens. A lot of times it's in between the big events like waiting in line or at that informal powwow you had in your room.

Now all I just gotta figure out is what I'm gonna wear and how I'm gonna do my room. I'm not sure if Bordello or Blue Sun works for me - I'm more a Nuts and Bolts kinda guy. Don't be surprised to see a pilots console or an engine turning over in my room. And don't worry, I won't be shoving any Capissen 38's out the window.

Oh man, I'm glad I have lots of notification as this could be down right expensive (looks like I'm going to need some hospital schematic to pay for this). And i am currently unemployed. Maybe I could find someone to split the cost on a room. I also like the idea of a package deal. I have to figure out my room as well, and my clothes, and everything else...

I have seen the promised land and it's only half an hour from my house!

I have no idea how or where but does anyone have contact info for the Philly people? This is something I wouldn't mind devoting my time to!

Hmm....Detroit to Philly is 442 miles according to Ask Jeeves. So I could drive there in about 7 hours.

But where to get the money...?

When the time gets closer there should be a thread for people looking to split the cost of a hotel room. I don't have anyfriends interested in going.

Oh man, the mental image I just got is priceless!

A bunch of browncoats, running loose on South Street with a ready supply of tasteful boozey goodness within easy reach...meandering down the street trying to teach the locals the evil of the alliance and how they need to join the Independent Army!
Stars Above, we're all going to jail! ;)

Not South Street, though I know there was a bunch of Philadelphia landmarks that were going to be included.

I've volunteered to help.

why not south street? and head house square? of course, depending on the hotel, it's doable any way. philly's a very walking friendly city. and all the touristy spots are within blocks of each other. very shiny!

I am pretty sure they don't have South Street on their included package. But that doesn't mean you can't visit it.

Stop badgering me, mom. :P LOL

They're still looking for help, you know. *hint hint*
