On the DVD commentary, and in the Serenity Visual Companion, Joss says that his principal actors did 95% of their own stunts, with the exception of a few wire gags. Does anyone know if Summer Glau did any of her own stunts involving a wire harness (namely the Maidenhead Bar fight scenes)?

Cheers!

The only thing I was able to find about SUmmer and the Maidenhead scene was this post over at summerglau.com:

Lioness over at whedonesque.com has discovered an amazing showreel from the stunt company that did the choreography of River's Maidenhead Bar Scene in Serenity. Its ain't Summer in the rehearsal but you can see just how much stunt work Summer did herself by the difference in style between the stunt performer and our girl.

http://www.87eleven.com/ click on the stunt reels for the one you are after. Andy

Unfortunately, the link over at 87eleven.com no longer shows Summer's scene- but you could contact them and see if they'd send it to you - or search out this clip on summerglau.com and see if one of her fans has it.

(But that stunt website is way cool.)

Good Luck-

If you watch the Filmmaker's Journey extra on the international DVDs, it seems pretty clear that there's at least one bit of wirework that Summer does herself. But, for example, the flip down the stairs pretty clearly is a stunt double.

I know this may sound stupid, but since I do not own a copy of the International Serenity DVD, are there any links (anywhere) that might have that footage online?

Cheers!

For Summer everything was done by her except the flip down the stairs, which apparently she was not allowed to do.

With the Mal and the Operative scenes, you have to realise that neither are stuntmen, so some of the blows actually land. Brilliant.

Near the end, When Mal striked the platform the bruised face is not make up. He slammed hsi face a few times that he lost feeling down one side of it.

No wonder it looked real. (the bruises are probably the same as those in the final scene, when they fly away. otherwise there is no real reason to leave them as makeup. I may be wrong about this bit though as it may have been filmed at a different time)

Its already been answered but yes Summer did a lot of her own stunts - after all she went professional in balet untill she got a foot injury that put an end to it.

It takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. Unfortunately, some are pedaling in the wrong direction...

Like the Ghoul said, Summer was a professional balet dancer, and dancers make some of the best screen fighters. They take very well to choreography and have the flexibility and control to make it look real.

I'm very hard to please when it comes to screen-fighting. Serenity contains one of two, maybe three fight scenes made by an American filmmaker that I actually like.

I think there was only two bits of stunt work Summer was not allowed to do,

Select to view spoiler:

The flip down the stairs in The Maidenhead, and the dive through the closing blast doors before the Reaver fight sequence.

Other than that I think she did all of her own stunts. As for the other actors, I think they got to do the majority of their own stunts as well.
