LOL...sorry...was in a rush to go eat with the guys and forgot to set it right. It's fixed.

But I'm sure, if one wanted to, one could probably download Bushwhacked off the net somewhere and watch it.

If I wasn't stuck on a 56k I might take you up on that. :(

Except watching it on my TV looks a whole lot better. :)

Actually, what a lot of people do is to download the the mpeg video, re-encode it, and burn it as a VCD or SVCD. In that format, you can watch what you download on your TV using a DVD player that also plays VCDs.

Not a lot of people around where I live have VCD players. I know they're popular in Asia, and it doesn't suprise me they've infiltrated Hawaii. But on the mainland they're basically unknown.

JOSS, WHERE'S MY CHECK???!!!

Most non-US brand DVD players support the VCD format as well as play MP3s. Toshiba, Sony, Aiwa, Samsung, Panasonic, Hitachi, etc. all sell DVD players under or about $100 that plays a wide variety of format. Worth the investment I think.

OK, I stand corrected. My local Circuit City sell a bunch of VCD-capable DVD players. They just don't place a lot of emphasis on this feature in their ads.

You can get a VCD/CD/MP3/DVD and practically everything player for US$60.00. Last I checked 5 of 6 models that Priceclub sold had pretty much all the formats emblazoned on the front of the DVD player...

VCD formats are actually pretty big with folks who do digital capture and recording. Like Haken said, after they get the capture on their HD, they recut the format and burn to VCD either for archive or for watching. Here in the mainland too. Besides, how can anything be a first in Hawaii? It takes 3 days for UPS "overnight" mail to get there, hehehe. I am glad that at least they have solved the problem with the programming for MTV and HBO being a week behind all the damn time.

As far as I'm concerned, this thread acts as further proof that Haken is *not* some dodgy guy working for Fox; he's promoting pirating.

I'm promoting the free flow of technical information. What people do with that infomation is up to them. I'm simply informing the masses as to what can be done with the available technologies that are at our disposal.

My stans on "pirating"...

As long as it's shows that haven't reached the area you're in I think it's quite ok... .. It isn't like there's any other choice. It's either "that" or not seeing anything at all...

Personally, I prefer the DVD:s.. When they arrive... ... Just ordered Buffy season 4 on DVD... (Am behind a bit, haven't even begun on the ST TNG-boxsets...

By the way.. episode 2 is out... If you look hard enough...

Well, to me a VCD player seem redundant if you already own a computer. Yeah, a VCD player lets you watch mpegs on your TV set -- but you can get an adapter to make a computer do the same thing. But I guess it makes sense if you don't want a computer next to your TV set, or if you're going to buy a DVD player anyway.

My assumption about Hawaii had to do with that state being full of Asian visitors and people who do business in Asia. So I would think Hawaiins would see a lot of Asian products that were not meant to be distributed in the U.S. But perhaps I'm wrong.
