I have no idea what most fans want. It's essentially irrelevant, since they're not going to be put back in.

And anyway, I agree with Joss' arguments for the deletions that were made, heh. They would, in fact, change the movie -- depending on what you consider "change".

That would be priceless. We must all write to Adam Baldwin asking him to do this if he is approached for commentary.

I wouldn't presume to know what most fans want but I'd like to see the deleted scenes put in the movie, or at least the one where Mal and Inara talk in her shuttle.

I myself do not care for scenes being added to the movie.

But I would love to see a lot more of the deleted scenes, some not seen yet on youtube, but all better quality than available via youtube.

That's exactly the one scene I really WOULD like to see edited in. Or wait - I mean the one where the shuttle takes off, and Mal doesn't hold on and disappears from view, going "I'm ok!". That's the one I mean. But I think you're referring to a dialogue scene? It's been a while since I watched the deleted scenes.

Saying that I’d still love them to release it in Europe too. Any Way I can up the sales I'll do it.

Okay, I'll ask too. What is "Key Art"? And I would love to hear Joss say that "The SE's success will drive whether or not a sequel is made" instead of his normally cryptic updates ;) Like what did he mean when he said: "And honestly, what more do you want? Don't answer that, I already know and it's unseemly." Unseemly is not unlikely and THAT is good.

SHINY NEWS though!!

I wouldn't read too much into exactly what he says and draw conclusions if I were you. Remember he also said "Yub Yub tak the Yub from Meee...dichlorians...."...
And yes, key art includes packaging. I guess the new cover will be sort of a brownish color.

Hmmm...July...Xmas in July....1 copy each to all our guests. Browncoats forever!

Even though I am new to the cause I see this new release as another chance for us to show the power of the fans, if we can do this it can only enhance Joss' sales pitch to networks in the future.

Please also dont forget that no matter which country you are in make sure you pressure your local tv channels to show Firefly and Serenity. Every time a station purchases the show it not only makes it more commercially viable to start up production again but it is also the best way to recruit new fans.

Or a shot that actually looks like Summer. They touched up that piccy so much it didn't really look like her in the end.

And less llamas. Frankly, I could get behind the Captain Tightpants cover. Very closely behind.

Well, good news. I'll ask for this for christmas. Now if he edited it so Wash and Book survive and are alive and healthy in the sequel it'll be perfect. Oh well.

On the other hand Heroes is coming out in August. Woo Hoo. I won't have to wait long for my newest obsession. Waiting with bated breath for the Peter/Syler showdown.

I know it's highly doubtful that Joss will see this, but maybe someone close to him will, and will pass this along:

I have several friends who are either deaf or hearing impaired. They are Browncoats, and dearly love the Movie. Their one big complaint, though, about DVDs in general, is that there are No Subtitles or Close Captioning available in the Extras section. All the added documentaries, the gag reel, even the fruity Oaty Bar jingle.... they want to know what's being said.

I think it would be a ground breaking move for Joss to include either subtitles or program in close ccaptioning for the Extra Features. It'll be yet another Browncoat First!

Thanks.

Ah, yes. Yeah, in my opinion, I would love to get more deleted scenes in the deleted scenes section, but I have to stand with Joss on this one: He never wants to make a Director's Cut - ever, because his final cut, to him, is (ie should be) the best the movie could be.

By the way, does anybody know why there was/is such a furor over the Serenity cover art? I liked it, llamas and all (though the random hordes of people in the background made it feel like it held a hint of zombieness). River looks so shiny!

Thank you, Shameless. I think this is a good cause, not just for the BDM but for Any DVD, including the FF Box set. Deaf and Hearing Impaired Folk are as entitled to know what's in the Special Bonus Features as the rest of us. I find it odd and unfair that they can't. The only reason I can think of for Studios doing this is expense. It can't really cost That much, but they save some bucks by skipping captioning on the extras. -And that's wrong.

What you are asking for would eventually lead to LESS extras because it would indeed be "too expensive" to put captions on every one of them.
I'm not saying that's how it's supposed to be, but that's how it is.
So my guess is that the only way you would get closed captions on all extras of a movie would be as a PR stunt, and even that's unlikely.
Not trying to rain on your parade, but I guess there aren't "enough" hearing impaired people around to be worth the effort. I do in no way condone this, but that's the way the business world seems to work. If it wouldn't, we'd all have had our sequel by now for sure, and wheelchair ramps on every building, for that matter.

Hey, you don't have to convince ME. But even if there were transcripts, they would still have to be implemented, and there could be legal issues we're not aware of.
I know that Fans are sometimes helping with the translation of TV shows into German (because they usually suck, which pisses of the fans - AND THE GERMAN VERSION OF FIREFLY IS THE BEST PROOF FOR THAT - HORRIBLE), so there is some kind of co-operation between companies and the fans, but I don't know if it's like that in other countries.

My deepest apologies to All.... I have been informed and tested it myself... There are subtitles in the dvd extras for Serenity... But not for the Easter Egg. So I apologize for my mistake, but Still hope that Joss adds captioning to the Easter Egg.

I'm not sure, but my deaf friends may have been referring to the Firefly Box set, because I know there's no way to activate subtitles for the extras there. If we ever get a special edition of That, well.... along with an Apology from Fox, subtitles in the extras would be nice! :D

Here's a lark; a cast commentary with them all commenting In Character; as if they were real people who the movie was about! But later got to see it... like 20 years later. For Wash, it turns out the "real" person lived, so he still gets to comment (it was just in the movie/story about them, he dies ;-) ).

WOW!

Why hasn't anyone talked about how this is a good sign for a Big Damn Sequel?

This special edition means Universal has been looking at the DVD sales and doing the RESEARCH to see if a special edition is worth doing.

And it was!

Like a previous poster said before...

BUY THIS DVD!!!!

BUY 10 COPIES!

BUY ONE FOR YOUR GOLDFISH!!

I've got a massive feeling this 'special' DVD is Universal testing to see if the fanbase is still alive and kicking. Lets show them they are!

Joss getting back together with all the crew will also re-invigorate him to push for a sequel.

This is the best news of I have heard re. Firefly/Serenity since my mate said... "I've got a movie on DVD you would like."

Woooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

I would think it's not so much testing the fanbase as simply knowing the fanbase would clearly accept having to "double dip" and buy a special edition even though it already owns the first one.

Don't get me wrong, I have no idea what Universal is thinking. But realistically, the cost/benefit analysis on spending money to produce a new version of something they know for a fact has sold well (the DVD) is very different then the cost/benefit analysis on spending money to produce a sequel to a movie which failed at the box office.

If its a version where wash and book doesn't die I might by it, otherwise he can drop dead with his special editions.

LIVEBROWN

I find it a bit odd that people get so agitated about the ending of the BDM. Havent any of you seen Buffy, she died like 3 times and still managed to live through the final episode.

Trust Joss!

LOCKESCYTHE

Um

This may just be the hopeful in me.

But this may be a test to see if there is still interest in the BDM.

Spesh since Joss is less swamped now.

So when this comes out. Make sure you BUY BUY BUY.
