Well met!!

I have been a fan of Firefly and Serenity for about a year now (a little late i know)
I knew nothing about either of them and i just randomly rented Serenity out, must have been fate. and i now own both the series and film and have both soundtracks on the way!! I love it!!

I am very sad to have not been around when Firefly got cancelled, as i would have like to have taken part in the campaigning to keep it alive!!

I am determined to get everyone i know to like Firefly, i have currently converted my whole familly and three friends to our noble ranks (and counting).

I am confused on why Firefly was cancelled....and...what are the reasons why Joss Whedon is not making another series or sequel....I would be honoured if someone could enlighten me..

You all must have had these questions asked many a time before and im sure it hurts to explain to someone y the show u so loved and adored was cruelly taken away, i apologize for re opening scars long healed........

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

Well, the show was cancelled because F*X didn't gel with the western/sci-fi feel (and 'cause they're stupid); another sequel isn't being pursued because the box office release for Serenity was around the same time as Hurricane Katrina (poo-poo); and, when Joss shopped around Firefly ('cause F*X let him), nobody wanted it.

Plus, pretty much everyone involved is busy with something (Joss is working on a movie, at least three of them are in new shows, etc.). But hope is not lost - a special edition DVD of Serenity is being released in July!

Anyway, welcome! The rest of the comittee will be by shortly with food, and maybe FollowMal with your browncoat.

I'm actually really new myself. My brother bought the series for my mom this october for her birthday and now my mom, my sister and I are all hooked too.

Anyway, from what I understand, one of the factors may have been that the shows were aired out of order. Rather than start with the first episode, they started with train job but I really think you need the intro to understand it better first. If you look at the back of the disc covers, you'll see when they were actually aired (out of order) A lot of it is character development and it may not have worked as well

Plus I heard the commercials for it didn't really do it justice either.

And, they pre-empted it for baseball season, if I remember correctly (I've only been a fan since August ), not to mention airing the pilot last!

Basically the tv industry has sunk to appealing to the base instincts and trash reality tv is the result. Sadly it means that quality, good writing, thought provoking concepts, and excellent acting are disappearing in favor of "accidental" boob and butt shots, bathroom jokes, accident prone morons, and sex with any moving object ( or unconscious object) are now the only available choices. I am hoping that one of the cable people will start a channel with some sort of quality in mind and I'm sure we'd all pay for the chance to watch Firefly and other fantastic shows!

SLEEPYWARRIOR

I am also new to the world of Firefly. I hope and pray that it returns to our screens as soon as possible. I think the best thing we can do to support Joss and Firefly is all go out and buy the special addition Serenity. And to continue to spread the word of the greatness of Firefly.
For example me and my friend Joel have been campaigning over Xbox live and spreading the word of the legend that is Firefly. So far we have convinced many a folk to join our noble ranks. When ever possible recommend Serenity as a film rental or a worthy purchase for any film fan to add to their collection, the more people that buy the DVDs the more likely it is that another film or series will be created

This is good reasoning, I see I have taught you well. It is the truth, we have converted many, it takes little effort, once they c Firefly/Serenity they love it. It was I who actually brought SLEEPYWARRIOR from the darkside and introduced him into the world of Firefly.

If everyone rented Serenity once in a while, im sure it would help...little things like that might help...any other thoughts?

There are only two kinds of people in this world...my friend.........Those who love Firefly and those who haven’t seen

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

SHINYED

The brainless world of lowest common denominator idiots we live in has NO interest in anything as intelligent and non-pc correct as Firefly.

The 'masses' want reality tv crap, Entertainment Tonight, & Star Wars fuzzy cutesy aliens. Joss Whedon is actually a 21st century Don Quixote.....always fighting against overwhelming forces for what his vision is.
