From the Boston Globe:

Lead singer of the band Boston dies

March 9, 2007

ATKINSON, N.H. --Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55.

Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Lt. William Baldwin said in a news release that there was no indication of foul play.

"There was nothing disrupted in the house. He was a fairly healthy person from what we're able to ascertain," Police Chief Philip Consentino told WMUR-TV.

Delp apparently was alone at the time, Baldwin said.

The cause of death remained under investigation. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp sang on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002.

He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade.

The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall.

On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

A call to the Swampscott, Mass., home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

These guys were the cutting edge of a revolution in music during the late '70's .

I personally wore out several 8-track tapes of their first album , plus the vinyl...

One of my deepest regrets is not going with ultra-hot Cecily from my journalism class to the Boston concert at the state university...We were supposed to interview these guys...But that's another story for another time...

Oh geez, this has surely bummed me out for the rest of the night.

I am and have been a HUGE Boston fan. The minute any of the songs from the first album come on the radio I am immediately taken back to a warm Va summer in 78.

I was fortunate enough to meet them once. They were very kind to me as 13 year old girl.

So tragic and a loss for the music community.

Dangit ! , sorry , Ms. FMF . Didn't mean to cause any bummage , but that's just the kind of news this is...

I'm happy that they were kind to you when it really meant something...That's just the kind of guys they were , by all accounts...

Lots of memories all wrapped up in this band for me...A really cool California girl , age 14 , from Ventura County , introduced me to them...I was 15...

I am now moved to put on the album (yes album - there is something to be said for the sound of the needle scrtatching across the surface) and dig out my photoalbum that has the tickets and backstage passes they signed.

Sorry to hear about his death.

No offence to anyone in here that love it, but I gotta say that I absolutely loathe the song "More than a Feeling". Not because it's a bad song, but because IMHO it is so infinately overrated and overplayed even still today. I challenge anybody to show me a top 100 rock songs of all time that doesn't have that song on it.

That being said, I do like Boston. I actually owned their album that came out around 1993 called Walk On. I heard their song "I Need Your Love" when I was a freshman in high school and I got the album from Columbia House. None of the other songs ever made it to the radio, but there are some really awesome songs on that CD. I recommend giving it a listen to any Boston fan that hasn't heard it already.

My favorites on the disk were Magdaline, What's Your Name, and We Can Make It.. in no particular order. Whenever I listen to the CD I think about a girl I met that summer. She was beautiful. She lived in Indiana and I lived in Illinois and though we were only about 40 miles apart, that's quite a long distance relationship for a couple of 13 year olds. A couple of months of talking on the phone for hours turned to minutes and then disappeared altogether. Her friend sent me a letter telling me that she thought I was real cute and wanted to meet up sometime and I knew then it was over. It's funny... I can't even recall her name now. Amanda... Andrea... hmmmm I know it started with an A. Stupid brain.... always remembers the bad shit.

Yes, I'm a pansy and I like rock that 13 year old girls liked.
