ok so in the 'ariel' episode when the hands of blue show up, they kill off the fed officers that processed jayne and the tams. that little rod thingy they had, what the hell was that? why werent they affected? how does it work? i got all manner o' questions on that score.

Those are the sonic-neuron-disruptors...or, was it the focused-microwave-projectors...wait, wait it had something to do w/ tacheon particles and telepathy and the blue gloves sheilded them...

Sorry, couldn't resist. As far as I know it was never fully explained. There has been a lot of speculation but, so far, they seem to be a creepifying plot device w/ details to be worked out later. Wish there was more info (I'd like to know too).
