We see it all the time. Folks start in on the board and we know nothing of them. So after they post "How old are you?" and "Male or female?" threads they move to posting in the photo threads. I would think it'd be easy to supply enough info on out profile pages but alas, aome of y'all are just as lazy as me. That's cool. Any noobs that catch this thread pop in and give us your stats. As Citizen noted on the Tag with me, there might be some confusion and something as enjoyable as apple pie might be ruined forever.

Just let us know how far we can go. I'd hate to corrupt a poor unsuspecting noob and turn them off to the board forever.

*stands up*

Well, I'm a new...new person... >.> I joined maybe last April/May and only posted once or twice or so--big 'ol lurker! (Heh, I'm such a hypocrite--I hate lurkers too)

But I decided recently, with a new determination to actually be apart of the community & make a mark, that a new name would be nifty too ^_^ Yay for change! I've been a fan of Firefly since last April--I remember this because that was when I had finals and I remember totally blowing off studying to finish the fourth disk .

I actually post at another board completely unfirefly related called fantasyessentials.net which is why my avatars will have "Faith_Rahl" in them... Rahl is from a Terry Goodkind series and that is the sister site that came out of the official one. Plus, people were getting a bit crazy over there, so the cool people were kicked out, and voila. Lots of Firefly fans there but they aren't as passionate about it as me. But I've been acting as an fff.net ambassador for awhile there :)

Anywho, what do ya wanna know 'bout us newbs? ;)

CAPTAINCOUPI

I've been here about three weeks now and done the formal introduction. Go a nice virtual Brown Coat from the Queen of Coats herself and some Strawb's off Bun'. Here's some stat's so you can all get to know and love me better.

Age - 31
Lives in - Southampton UK
Married and kids - Yes and no.
Found Firefly/Serenity? - Late 2006 (better late than never).
CaptainCoupi? What’s that name about? - Nickname from work. No, I'm not a real Captain.
Works for? - A big evil Bank. Really, once I find an excuse to quit that job all my money will be kept in a shoe box under my bed.
Looks like - A slimmer version of Monty from Trash. So 'chubby and hairy' would be appropriate.
Aims in life - Be happy, get out of debt, emigrate to Canada, (lots of family over there), win the lottery and totally finance Firefly season two off my own back.

Any other questions stay after class and see me.

Ooh! Ooh! If you move to the Vancouver area you can get started early by helping out with Into the Black! You don't even have to win a lottery.

CaptaimnCoupi seems to have itemized in a very good way. Most of the pretinent info was included with his post. It ususally takes months to find all that ut from folks.

FLP, thanks for acting as emissary for us. I too lurked for several months before posting. It was actually the Imponderables thread that got me started.

Sweet! We got new people. Just push more noobs this way whenever you find 'em.

TINADOLL

Hiya'll

I posted this before

Hey All! My names Tina :) And i am a newish Fireflyfanaka Browncoat. I saw Serenity in the theatres three times. But never got it- Until now.I am not a new Joss Whedon fan. I have loved Buffy and Angel for the longest and picked up Firefly because I wanted more Serenity.(Wierd huh-for most people it was the other way around) So i watched it-The whole season. And i keep watching the episodes.Over and over! They are so good and i am pissed that I missed this when it came on TV.But tis the nature of Fox(boo hiss)- I have a hate/hate relationship with that channel. I mean how many times can a show like House or Bones get prempted- GAH. Or shows that were great like brisco county or the Lone Gunman get cancelled

Well I am can't get enough of everything Firefly now- Fanfic included. Jaylee is my fave. Don't ask me why. I guess to think that rough exterior Jayne has a soft spot for the perky Kaylee it just tickles me pink. I am a sap lover.

My favorite episode is " Our Mrs Renoylds" followed closely by "Jaynestown". Its that Whedonesque humor that I love! I guess my favorite characters are Mal, Jayne and Kaylee. I guess its because each have a different view on things and on surviving..

Its so much different then Trek.(considering i am a recovering Trekker)

I probally hang out around the Fanfics and the boards. Perhaps add some crap of my own ;) (WHICH I AM WRITING AS WE SPEAK)

I'm going to also steal from Capcoup the format
Age - A girl never tells her age. I am in my Twenties if you must know
Lives in - NYC baybeh
Married and kids - One of these says
Found Firefly/Serenity? - Last year actually after the movie came out. I just started watching the Firefly episodes last month
What’s that name about? - Its based on the Twilight Zone episode with the talking doll named Talking Tina(and tina is my name). It sounds sweet but the doll kills. hehehe
Works for? - Occupation? Paralegal.
Looks like? Well um. Like Eddie Izzard cept..Female.. Nah.. I look like me and will post a pic soon.
Aims in life?- law school/Grad school
College major: Forensic Psychology
Loves (besides Firefly-relatedness): writing, reading, I'm a 80's nolstalgia whore-which sucks cuz its in fashion now..NO NO NO. I love BTVS and Angel. And lots of those Cop/Forensic/ Serial killer shows. I'm sucha fangirl

angle. those who are fool enough to peer up

RIVERRUNSTHROUGHIT

Heyla all!

I've been here for a couple weeks and posted a couple times, but I'm more of a listener than a talker. Cept when it comes to Firefly/Serenity. Then I tend to jabber off ears. Some of my friends will cut me off before I speak to ask if my comment will have anything to do with Firefly and if it does they roll their eyes at me (no worries! I WILL convert them! Mwahahahaha!).

Anyhoo, here ya go...

Age - 23
Lives in - Washington state
Married and kids - Possibly in the FAR future and not if I can avoid it
Found Firefly/Serenity - I was bored and started borrowing my bro's copies of Buffy and Angel and he lent me Firefly/Serenity and I fell in love
RiverRunsThroughIt? What's with the name? - Totally off the top of my head when I logged in, though it does remind me of the patter of tiny feet in combat boots!
Works for - Gas station babe... Chevron off highway 14 in Washougal
Looks like - HAHAHAHA! Let's not go there. Too many self esteem issues.
Aims in life - Short term: DRAGONCON! I WILL GO! NO POWER IN THE 'VERSE CAN STOP ME! Long term: winning the lottery so I can live however I want, never have to work again, and of course own a tv channel so there will be Firefly 24/7!

Bun? Even though you were already kind enough to share a Strawberry with me when I first got here... could I have another?

Yep , there are a lot of them...I used to do outreach to the adult homeless population on a state-contract job...

Helped a few folk get off the streets and into stable home situations...Met some interesting people . Got to hear their stories...

NVG: I learned to soar ( fly sailplanes ) while I was a teenager in California . One of my best friends in soaring was an elderly , retired Air Force Colonel...A great flying buddy...I used to meet him every year wherever the Soaring Society convention was held . One year it was in Reno . I wanted to soar in Minden after that trip...I flew out to Reno and helped him drive back to the East Coast in 3 days !

I was hooked on Nevada , so I flew back out , got a rental car , and camped out on the desert floor in a tent...Went soaring at Minden for a week...Drove to California and back , to see an old friend...Toured most of Nevada before turning the car in , down in Las Vegas...

Had to hustle to get back to Vegas...A Dodge Stratus can do 107 MPH before the chips kill the engine...Drove through Fallon , doing about 30 in a 25 , through 'downtown'...Saw the cop about the same time he zapped me...Got stopped ; he saw my aerospace company baseball cap and let me get away with a 'warning'...Not much more to it than that...

Oh , one of my current flying buddies is an MD who used to work in Tribal services in Wyoming...Cool fellow and a great friend...

'Its a small, small world'. I see the sail-ers come through town every so often with their sharkfin trailers. One of our old tribal officers used to fly out in Minden, (can't place her name right now).

Sometimes I meet folks on the board who've been attached to NAS Fallon in one of a million ways. We get pilots and all the support crew, Spec ops, SAR, DEMO, and yer plain ol' do what the Navy tells me sailors. There are representatives from every branch of the military in our town ninety percent of the year. Lotsa training to be had in my part of the 'verse.

Prided with NV roads. The ability to drive fast is so rarely hindered.

No worries...

One beautiful night , I was watching the wind coming over the Sierras and kicking the dust off the dry lakebeds .

I was cruising along at 85 , and since my attention had been diverted by the spectacle , didn't notice another car approaching from behind . It was a NV state trooper . He barely gave me a glance as he passed doing 90...

Drive Fast...Fly Fast...It's all good in Nevada .
While at Minden , I met a local glider instructor that I liked . I wanted to get some of his local knowledge about soaring the Sierra ridge , so I asked him to accompany me on a couple of my flights . We took a 2-seater and went out to the mountains , into some ridge lift . Once we got back over Carson Valley , staying aloft on piddly thermals , or
" gopher farts " , as he put it , he asked me if I had ever flown the glider at
" redline " , or Vne , which means Velocity-'never exceed' .

" Nope " .

" Wanna ? " , he asked .

" Yeah , sure... " , was my response .

So we zoomed downward and ran 'er up to 150 mph .
The stick forces get pretty heavy , the wind noise sounds like you're inside a vacuum cleaner , and then he says , " Don't ever sneeze , or even hiccup , while you're doing this ."

I'm thinkin' , " Ummm , Duh ! " ,
and we continued our diving attack and strafing run over a herd of cattle .

The cows weren't even scared ! Didn't stampede...I guess they looked up and saw sky and remembered what they were...

...or else they were just used to being dive-bombed by crazy glider pilots out to do the jet-jock ju-ju...

A YouTube vid of soaring in the Minden area...This is from a 'wave' flight someone filmed...Notice the frost on the canopy...Outside air temps are generally down around 60 below zero F degrees...AND there's nothing to breathe...Hence the oxygen mask...

<

>

Then , there's this one of the zoom and climb variety...

<

>

and finally , when the raptor-men go out on patrol...

Naw , we've got the Power , dude...All natural solar-powered flight , the way it's been done for eons...

Those engines and fans are only there to fly you to " the scene of the crash " . Or , to keep the pilot cool .

Don't believe it ? Turn it off , watch the pilot start to sweat...

About the poo-your-pants thing...I gave that up when I was just a little bitty guy...Didn't like that condition known as

Hello! Well, I'm a newbie to this site, and it's been a really long time since I could claim to be a newbie to a posting board site, so it's a big deal for me. I love getting involved in new fandoms!

Age: 20. Young, I know, but I started Jossin' pretty young, too. As a ten year old, I snuck BtVS episodes all the way back from Welcome to the Hellmouth. I resisted Firefly when it was on-air, and I regret that decision greatly. I recently discovered it by buying the boxset and telling myself Joss would never let me down. He didn't, and I fell in love.

Married/Kids: Nope, but mostly because I'm a college student in NJ, trying to get a degree in English/South Asian studies. Oh, and I'm female. :)

My name? Biggrstaffbunch has been my fic-writing name since my teenybopper days of being in love with the actor who plays Oliver Wood in the HP movies. I just kept it. :)

Anything else people would like to know? I love the fandom, it's been really wild and dedicated for so long that it really impresses me. Buffy fandom doesnt even treat newbies as well...thanks so much for being so great!

It's a rockety ride from time-to-time , but you've come to the Shiny-est place in

We're always happy to meet new folk .

Glad you stopped resistin' , and started persistin' , like the rest of us...

There may be some folk come along and offer you things...

'Til then , make yourself to home...See what's layin' about in the galley...

Hey all,

I'm a long fan of Firefly/Serenity now, but I'd missed out on the boards until the last couple of weeks. So I'm an official noob as well!

Impressively international crowd here. I live in LA personally and work as a composer. Anyone else in LA?

Yep, now a member of the SoCal Browncoats, California Browncoats and even a thing called the "Firefly Music Project" based out of Germany - been brushing up on my Deutche for those guys (and by that mean Alta Vista translator ...)

Thanks though! And yes, LA's not quite yet a ghost town. Sometimes it reminds of the way they found Miranda though .... ;-)

Ni Hao , Jerry !

Since you're slightly younger than myself , I get to call you 'di-di' , I suppose ?

It's all manner of thrillin' , meetin' new folk , and hearin' their interesting stories...

You're way Shiny , on account of bein' so new...
Kinda envy that about you , seein' the 'Verse for the first time...

Please post your impressions , when you like...
The veteran Browncoats find that edifyin' ; it's like seein' Firefly again ,
' for the first time '.

I used to do lunch every day with a babe named Hance , when I was in High School...I still wonder where in the 'Verse she is...

That was down in Texas , or , as it's known to some , 'Baja Oklahoma' ... ( Whoops , I'd better take cover ).

Last time I was through OKC , I spent the night at Tinker...My paternal grandparents are buried at Broken Arrow , so I've got Okie connections...

Have you checked out the Red River Rebels Browncoat group ? Might be a way to get involved in some shindiggery , next time they decide to do
' a job '...

Seems these boards sometimes get quiet , on the weekends...Where is everybody ?

Hullo ? Anybody ?

Who's Flyin' this thing ?

Oh, right ! That would be me...

Some folk may be along soon , make you more to home...They're probably all down in the cargo bay , playin' a game of ringball..

I'd be careful with that. My wife speaks German fluently and she's often shocked at some of the ways Alta Vista translates phrases.

Sure you can call me DI-DI if I get to call you Tammy Fae. I have friends in broken arrow. Nice place slow but nice. Of coarse slow could be used as A on target discription of all of Oklahoma. No worry's on my posts. I'll let you know what I think of the last 7 episodes soon.
I'm talking to everyone with this one. If A second Serenity movie is going to be done we need to contact Universal on A daily basis. Best way to do it is to HANDWRITE Mary Parent at universal studio's. Handwriten letter's take more time and are more personel, don't think that doesn't get noticed. So far my favorite episode is "our Mrs Reynolds" Words cannot do justice to the look on Mal face after finding out he's A husband..

Just checkin', buddy...

Di-di is supposed to be an endearing Mandarin

term for 'little brother'...But , you can still

call me Tammy Faye if that's what works for you ,

although folk might think that's strange...

Just never call me 'late for dinner' , I hate to

miss if there's any action in the galley...

Good of you to check in , Jerry...

Keep us informed of your impressions about Firefly . A lot of good stuff there...as you know...

Good idea about writing 'Versal every day...

...but I've heard Mary Parent might've moved on from there...

What a nice bunch. We're right glad to have you
aboard. Let's just rinse these berries and get
them onto the shaved ice. Then y'all can have a
Kaylee contest and celebrate with a little Milk.

Please don't step on ShipsCat or into her dish.

Welcome folks. Seems I've missed a bit the last few days. Glad to see more Browncoats joinin' the ranks.

Out, I've been dreaming of flight since I was a bitty BC. But the dreams have been on the surreal side and I think it was never figurative flight I was dreaming about. Thanks for the flight vids.

NVG:

When I get back to Nevada , we'll get around to doing a flight , if you like...

Won't do anything scary .

Once I was turning in a thermal , with my left wing down to maintain the circle...Off the left wing only a few feet , a red-tailed hawk...Turning in the same thermal !

I was experiencing quite the rush from that , then I looked at my upraised right wing...Another redtail , flying in close formation on that wingtip...Talk about surreal !

Still sends thrills into the core of my being !

Meanwhile , I have a project that you can assist with...Contact me via P-M for more details...
