Now I've been around long enough to know that everybody loves the film Serenity on this forum, right?

But how many of you actually think Serenity is the best film ever made and if not what film is.

JUST PUT LIST YOUR TOP 10 FILMS in this post cause I'm interested to know what films are better & even if you think Serenity is the best film put your top 10 films down anyway.

Heheh, gotta love a top ten list with "Tremors" in it!

This is really an impossible question to answer. There are plenty of movies that I like better than "Serenity" for one reason or another. For example, there are lots of movies that are funnier (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Caddyshack) or have a more profound message (The Killing Fields, Schindler's List). The Lord of the Rings trilogy brings a beloved world to life, as do the Harry Potter films.

But there's one scale on which "Serenity" has no peer for me. It's the one movie I can watch over and over again without getting tired of it.

For me, most DVD purchases turn out to be rather poor decisions, since in so many cases I'll watch it once or twice and then it gathers dust forevermore.

When it comes to "Serenity" , though, I can (and have) popped it in anytime and enjoy another visit with my "other family". I've lost count of our reunions.. and that's a good thing.

I'm not touching that question. Not with a ten foot pole. It would be too much like this for me.

Mal gives control of the ship to Zoe...
Mal: If I'm not back in an hour, you come, and you rescue me.
Zoe: What? And risk my ship?

I've not actually got around to re-ordering what my top ten would look like in my head since first seeing Serenity those few months ago.

My top ten used to be quite StarWars heavy, but those films are gonna be relegated a long way down the list now, (apart from Empire). They just don't seem to speak to me any more since seeing our BDM.

Thinking the Top five would be:

Serenity
Army of Darkness
Empire Strikes Back
Yojimbo
Shawshank Redemption

Deciding what is the best film ever is difficult...but I watched it again tonight. No other film has touched me like this film has. I've watched it god-know-how-many times now and each time it draws me in and holds me. I get teary eyed the last 10 minutes of the film (and a few other times too!)...from River's speech to Simon to the very end.

Best film ever??? It just might be...at least in my little world!

Well I'm getting ready to spend 12 months in South Korea. And while I know it's not a space station, I still want to make sure I bring my DVD essentials. My list is, therefore, primarily "most-watchable" rather than critically "best."

In alphabetical order:

About a Boy
Gladiator
Goodfellas
Lord of the Rings - Return of the King
Lost in Translation
Love, Actually
Moulin Rouge
Mystic River
Serenity
Walk the Line

plus over a dozen Disney animated features.

Don't make faces.

For me, Serenity may not be the best movie ever, and I don't know a way to decide what is truely the BEST (of anything). One aspect of Serenity that makes it special for me is that it is associated with firefly, and I love firefly. Serenity really is a movie I can watch many times and still love, especially if it's showing new people what the series is all about, and in that aspect, it is the best movie.

..........................................
Inara: Why would I want to leave Serenity?
Mal: Can't think of a reason.

LWAVES

Having seen a lot of these types of lists (even on this board) it can be a tricky question, as people have pointed out.
Some people get confused between 'best' and 'favourite' movies. Serenity is one of my favourite movies but it wouldn't be in my ten best.

To me a favourite movie can be a badly directed, badly acted, piece of go-se with 'cheese' dripping off of it. But if it has something that holds a special place in your heart, then it becomes a favourite.
For best movie, to me, you would have to be more technical and less emotional about it.

Also as people have stated tastes are ever changing. In another six months this list might have some changes to it.

Anyway ten 'best' films in no order:

LOTR Trilogy
Goodfellas
Hero
Shaun Of The Dead/Hot Fuzz
Godfather Trilogy (okay maybe not 3)
The Usual Suspects
Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind
Shawshank Redemption
Leon
Batman Begins

Proof I can't count as that is more than ten, but there you go.

Right, my turn! My list seems to change often, but these are the 'timeless' movies - one's I can watch over and over and over, yet never get even slightly bored...

1. Serenity
2. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
3. Terminator 2
4. Aliens
5. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
6. City Of Lost Children
7. Commando
8. Predator
9. Napoleon Dynamite
10. Gladiator

Nah, probably not the best move EVER, but I don't know what that would be.

I'll work with the notion that "best" means "favourite", and not necessarily "superb acting/directing/story/etc.etc.etc".

In no special order:

Serenity
Platoon
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Aliens
Local Hero
Planet of the Apes (original!)
Pitch Black
Shaun of the Dead
The Sting
Master and Commander
Young Frankenstein
The Maltese Falcon

Entirely pointy.

1. The Princess Bride
2. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
3. Serenity
4. Natural Born Killers
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Wild at Heart
7. Highlander
8. The Outlaw Josie Wales
9. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
10. Fight Club

I don't know that if I went back and watched all these movies again, they would all hold up, but they each had a big impact on my life, at the time.
