Hey all, you have seen my post about this in the other areas, but I'm working to organize a concert (ideally a concert series, though for now a Los Angeles event) which would feature the music from Firefly, Serenity, Buffy and Angel. Like, full orchestra. If we're really lucky I can try to even get this performed at the Hollywood Bowl ....

But, just like the signatures and outward support which was needed to get Serenity made, I need a very vocalized support from people. Just a quick email: awintory@gmail.com. Drop me a line and say "Yeah, I'd come!" if it interests. I can then present it to the orchestra I'm discussing it with. Possibly as soon as this summer.

We could easily make a big Browncoat shindig out of it.

Let me know!!

Austin

While I'm not in the Los Angeles area, concerty goodness for the great one would be cool.

What a GREAT idea Awintory!
I would not be able to attend, I feel very envious of all Brownoats who would be able to. I wish you lots of luck with the organisation of this event.

Hey thanks Art. And by the way, as a composer, your alias rather speaks to me. Brilliant!

As a further caveat to this, would you guys come if I were able to attract Joss, Nathan Fillion, et al (including hopefuls like David Boreanaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Charisma Carpenter ....)? I can only assume that'd be a resounding YES. Autographs.

The idea right now is to time it with the Serenity Special Edition release so that maybe we can have special advance copies there signed by Joss and the cast ...

I'll keep you posted but keep emailing me your interest: awintory@gmail.com
cheers!

Awintory,

I'd buy a DVD and/or cd of the concert. If it comes anywhere near me, I pretty sure I would go and I don't usually go to concerts. I drove 3 hours to see a Charity Serenity Screening last June. Hoping to go this June too.

I think a concert would be shiny. I'm a violinist that's been working on arrangements of Firefly and Serenity music for small ensembles. I'd love to hear the music with full orchestra. Unfortunately, I'm far far away from CA, but I'd like to get my hands on the scores! And I second what someone else said about buying a DVD or CD of the event.

Anyway, good luck with the endeavor.

Thanks!

and because I live in Oz,
like Anonymous1 I'd also buy a DVD and/or cd of the concert if one was available.
The idea of inviting celebs along and timing the event to coincide with the release of Serenity SE is brilliant thinking.
Cheers,
Art.

Yep, Anonymous1...but, that's actually not the scores for the show. It's just for piano. I want to see how Greg actually wrote it out or how someone would orchestrate it for full symphony or string orchestra. The movie music would be neat to see for me, as well. Oh, hopes and dreams... *sigh*

So are the full symphony or string orchestra music sheets ever published?

Cause if they were...there could be a

A concert in Whedon's honor
A DVD of the concert
A CD of the concert
A book of sheet music from the concert

T-shirts and posters like this shiny shirt and poster for example from http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/
Fans arranging Serenity Charity Screenings around the world for Joss Whedon's June 2007 birthday.

Hey Anon (forgive my shortening it - I'm always paranoid I'll spell it wrong for some reason .... ;-p)

First off, my thanks to FireflyFans.net for putting that thread in the current news. If I can get enough emails from people this concert will become a REALITY very soon. I've already spoken with Nathan Fillion's people about his involvement, and I'm seeing a movie next week J August Richards (Gunn, from Angel) and hope to bring him in as well. Start there and the rest will follow!

Conductor scores / sheet music for film and TV, with the exception of little piano books like Greg Edmonson has put together, are extremely rare. The studios tend to clamp down on those scores very tightly, out of paranoia of unlicensed performances. At least, that's the only reason I can think of. Which is of course stupid because it also prevents licensed performances! So sheet music from the orchestra parts are not likely to surface (almost all the music from Firefly, Buffy, and Angel was done with a computer anyway. On Firefly for instance, only some select violin passages, cello passages, some woodwinds especially the ethnic ones, and voices were live. All the strings and orchestral stuff was MIDI)

Regarding a CD and/or DVD of the concert: that will be quite a feat, but I wll do all in my power to get that done. If I can bring Joss himself in that'll make it easier, but we'll see. That raises the expense enormously. But I would LOVE to have that as a gift to this amazing community of supporters. How do you not well up when you see that footage from ComicCon a few years ago when the crowd came to first see Serenity? The real world Browncoats are an amazing group.

I'm working on it! Thanks so much for your vocalized support! At the very least we can make an 'unofficial' CD of the concert to have for ourselves.

cheers!

If you need help with a CD or DVD, you might want to check with the Done the Impossible people. They've done a DVD and CD before. They know how to get-it-done.

I wonder if there will be a DVD from the Browncoat Cruise they are organizing.

I live very very far from CA but would be willing to come if you can get some of the cast to come to the concert. It sounds like an awesome Idea. I am sure I could even get a few other browncoats to come!

I'm from Minnesota, so it is kinda far but I was planning to visit some family in LA this spring. So if you can tell me when, I will change my travel plans so that we can all come.

I would help organize a concert in the Twin Cities or Chicago if you're still thinking about doing a concert series. If a series of concerts were done, where would be the probable spots?

LA, Minneapolis or Chicago?, Houston?... we have a lot of browncoats in Canada too right?

I'd been calling it the "Musical 'Verse of Joss Whedon" - that too formal for ya'll?

Part of that is that while I would to really feature Firefly and Serenity, there are absolutely amazing moments through the scores to both Buffy and Angel, and I wanted to represent those.

As a sneak peak (hopefully!), I'm also trying to secure the rights so I can make an orchestral medley of the Buffy and Angel theme songs ....

I've gotten some great emails back so far - I'm planning on adding a forum to my webpage so that people can basically just sign it there as a 'guestbook.'

cheers!

After talking to some other browncoats I know from the other side of the US from LA, we have all decided that we would attend your concert when it goes down. You have support and help from Michigan, Missouri and Tennessee!

I'm still working on it. I'll keep everybody posted. My fear is that the turn-around is too tight, but I refuse to bow down! :-)

I'm in contact w/ a few of the various series actors, as well (so far) w/ Firefly composer Greg Edmonson. But the base of support will build I'm sure.

One thing that would help would be a source of sponsorship. I have a few avenues I'm pursuing, but if there are any Browncoats out there who've organized sponsored events and want to send some ideas my way I'm open to everything!

cheers!
