Look I know River seems to be a likely canidate for pilot of Serenity, and all things point towards that happening. But, I just thought that perhaps we should audition some other pilots. I went ahead and contacted my favorite choice via Myspace :
http://www.myspace.com/alexrogan
if anybody has some other canidates feel free to post them here.

Wow, that is a great choice. Lots of experience. But would he take the job I mean, is he really going to give up traveling, well traveliing with the traveler for the serenity gig?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

You do realize that Alex in The Last Starfighter was the gunner, not the pilot. Grig was the actual pilot.

We're back to relying on River I guess.

...And I vote Al Gore for 'piolt'. After all, he invented both space travel and the gravity drive...

Inventively,

zoid

P.S.
I, on the other hand, am running for the position of 'Companion Taster' ...er, 'Tester'. It's a thankless job with a lot of paperwork, but somebody's gotta do it. I don't mind toiling in relative obscurity, in contrast to our new pilot, Al Gore.

Al Gore is also a member if the "secret squad" and brings Stephan Hawking, Gary Gyax, Deep Blue, and Uhoura to the table with him. So an Al around Piolt indeed.

Still, I make a case that there is still a place for borat. Maybe as Head of the confederation.

he make sexy time and good interplanetary policy.

Yep. Good ol' Al is a good ol' hypocrit. Drives a big gas guzzling SUV, his home burns more kilowat hours in a month then most homes do in a year, but hey, he's the "spokesman" at the forefront of the Global Warming awareness movement. Al is certainly aware of it since he contributes more to global warming than anyone on this board.

And no, we don't want Al on our ruttin' ship as pilot. Hell, I wouldn't even let him be cabin boy.

My vote is for this little dude. He's a badass:

How many people you know that can man a shiny silver spaceturd:

Flying and navigating at the same time at like only 10 years old. That's pretty impressive. I can't even navigate downtown Chicago in my beat up Cavalier on my own.

Plus... as long as he doesn't succumb to drug abuse like so many of our child stars, he'll outlive the entire crew.

Capt. H.M 'Howling Mad' Murdock from The A Team.

Ahem..

Alternatively, Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace from BSG. She's the best pilot they got! Even better than the old man Adama.

Well if we're going BSG, then lets have some respect and go with Dirk Bennedict, the REAL Starbuck.

Also, The ORIGINAL Adama could never be beat. I know Ed in a great atctor, and he plays a good version of Adama.
But Adama was cooler and had musc more respect then Ed. I men he was one of the 12 masters of Cobal. They don't just give that title out.

As a master of COBOL he'll probably be very busy with the Y3k problem.

Captain Antilles, hmmm? Might do, might do. He's the only ancillary character that survives the entire first 'Second' Trilogy. And he has to come through some pretty tight scrapes that killed greater (okay, fatter) men than himself, in order to pull off that feat. Definitely a survivor...which would be a welcome change vis-a-vis our former, still-late pilot.

As to your second comment, "...we all know no pilot in any verse will even come within spitting distance of Wash": Amen, My brother/sister! I say we clone his azz, whether he likes it or not. Either that or force-mature his get from Zoe, a la the Fett googol-tuplets from the second 'First' Trilogy...

Genetically,

zoid

P.S.
Do clones dream of Dolly?

C'mon, now, BC1. Remember, 'kinder, gentler society'...

Besides. If we don't get him in the ship, how can we push him out the airlock? Accidents, as they say, do happen, and Space is a harsh mistress...

It'd never work. "Otto" the auto-pilot has to be manually (orally?) inflated, and sure, Inara would have the necessary training to accomplish the setup and 3-times-daily maintenance to ensure he was properly 'inflated'. But how do you think that would sit with the Cap'n?!

Plus, Otto smokes (post-setup/maintenance), so they'd never be able to shoot in California again, and the secondhand smoke might exacerbate whatever it is Inara's got, for which hypodermic injections are necessary...

But, okay, if y'all don't like the idea of Al 'Yer Pal' Gore, The Inventor of the Gravity Drive (and pretty much everything else) as your new pilot, then I'd like to advance another candidate: Pilot, from Farscape. Talk about credentials! This guy is so into his work, it's like he's married to it.

There might be a couple of wiring/plumbing issues to contend with; but Kaylee oughtta be able to get those sussed with a ball of string, some hair rollers and a couple dozen sp'monkeys.

Pilot's strongest selling point? Armor plating! Extree-large Reaver splinters simply bounce off!

Nominatively,

zoid
