Hi,

I purchased the film Serenity last week and really liked it, a few days ago i decided to buy the first season box set and i've just finished watching that. I noticed that Firefly is a few years old, did they ever make a second season? I can't seem to find it in the shops.

Kind regards - David.

First of all, welcome to the boards! Others will be by to offer you all sorts of goodies!

Unfortunately, there is only the wonderful half season of Firefly for us to watch, absorb, and love. We still hold out hope of another movie...

Hi, thanks for replying So the firefly box set (episodes 1-14) is only half of the first season? Is the second half another box set?

So where does the film jump from in the storyline? Does that continue from the last episode of the boxset? I was a little confused by that.

Thanks again - Dave.

EverLite, welcome to the FFF.net site. Your post did bring a smile to my face. We have been wanting more for a long time. There have been quite a few threads about what to do once you're addicted to Firefly/Serenity.

Here's one that was started by GrayFury:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15816

This is the 1st post off that thread:

1) Watch the series IN ORDER as they are formated in the DVD box set.

2) Watch ALL the Bonus material on DVD box set

3) Repeat step 1 but this time with all the commentary tracks ON.

4) Get Extended Gag reel from Firefly on a site that downloads video... I like Limewire. Or go here...

5) Read "DEAD OR ALIVE" unfilmed script... Link is here... http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45

6) Watch the River Tam sessions... In Order... Link Is here... http://www.session416.com/mirrors

7) Read All 3 Dark Horse comics, entitled Serenity Or get the paperback Those left behind.

8) Watch the BDM (thats what us Browncoats call the Serenity movie... It means BIG DAMN MOVIE. Derived from the line by Zoe in the episode "Safe"... "Big Damn Heroes, Sir!")

9) Watch all Bonus material on the BDM DVD

10) Repeat step 8 But this time with Joss Whedons commentary track on

11) Read the novelazation of the BDM, There are a few Non-Joss insights that are aluded to in the book.

12) Read "Finding Serenity" edited by Jane Espenson, Its a clever compilation of essays written by different folk influenced by Firefly/Serenityhttp:// www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932100431/fireflyfansne-20?creative=3
27641&camp=14573&link_code=as1

13) Pick up the visual companion, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1845760824/sr=8-8/qid=1154104359/ref=
pd_bbs_8/104-7343664-1526304?ie=UTF8
and the movie magazine for Serenity... Nothing in there that any diehard Browncoat wont already know, But a joy none-the less. Also...The Firefly Visual Companion... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1845763149/sr=8-5/qid=1154104359/ref=
pd_bbs_5/104-7343664-1526304?ie=UTF8

14) Read "the Killer Angels" By Michael Shaara. It is a book that Joss read, and was moved by the mood, and honesty of, to the point of inspiration.

15) Buy the soundtracks to Firefly and Serenity... Listen to them in your car... pretend your flying

16) Buy all 5 action figures, thats 2 Mals 2 Jaynes and a Reaver.... Make them fight on your desk at work

17) Pick up the role playing game manual... Some feel this important

18) Go to http://www.donetheimpossible.com ...Order your copy of thr DVD

19) Buy a BLUE SUN shirt on ebay and wear it while rocking back and forth in the dark, in the fetal postion, thumb in your mouth, wondering how this show was not the slamdunk hit of the decade.

20) Repeat step 19

21) Repeat step 19

Now Any of you Browncoats noticed that I missed anything....lemmee know and I'll paste it in. (If I deem it to be something that enhances the verse') Some of you may have a beef with the order I placed 2 through 5 in. Its just a preference... any mixing of 2-5 won;t hinder shit. Same goes for 8 through 13. Enjoy!!

Unfortunately "4) Get Extended Gag reel from Firefly" is no longer available at YouTube. Fox/Universal have been cracking down on YouTube about videos of Firefly/Serenity things. It was the extension of the gag reel that is on the Firefly box set.

That's a shame. I've never really been a fan of sci-fi programs so much but Firefly was really different, in fact i don't even think it was a sci-fi program?

To be honest i'd never heard of Firefly prior to buying the film but i'm glad i did, Over the last four days i've really enjoyed watching the box set, so much so i even shed a few tears now and then :) I became very much attached to the characters. To be honest i'm really surprised and a little confused that there's no more, i thought it worked really well, it was funny, touching and very original. To be honest i'm so confused why there's nothing to link the story of the boxset to the film.

Oh well, it sounds silly that they only make half of series that works so well and then make a film that doesn't connect the storyline, i hope they do make another film. I really felt like i invested a lot of emotions in the characters, it's rare you can say that about a TV series.

Thanks again - Dave.

Welcome welcome. FollowMal will be around with your brown coat soon enough.

Note: not all of us agree to the "Watch the Episodes IN ORDER as they appear on the box set" thing. There's a thread somewhere around if you want to follow that debate.

Welcome to the special hell that is Firefly fandom!

Dark Horse did a three-issue comic book mini-series that does a little connection between the series and the BDM (that's "Big Damned Movie"). It's available on Amazon as a trade paperback entitled (I think) "Serenity: Those Left Behind." I highly recommend it.

After you get through the box set a couple of times, you'll notice many links from the series. Just a few off the top of my head:

1) River's craziness
2) Reavers
3) The Alliance's pursuit of River
4) Jayne's questionable loyalty
5) Kaylee/Simon romance
6) Inara leaving the ship

Also, there's a block of us voting for Firefly on an online poll (see the link in my sig). If you feel so inclined, give us some votes!

Welcome, Everlite. You certainly wouldn't be the first with an emotional attachment to these characters. You're also not the only one who's surprised and confused that there isn't any more ... yet. We're glad to have you join us as we continue to wait and hope for more. While you're waiting, hang out, snoop around the threads and the Blue Sun Room, and post often.

Here's my take, 2002 was to close after 9/11, not interested in entertainment, Andromeda remake, and time slot changes. Now that's why it didn't get high ratings. I saw it on scifi channel in 2004 says hey this is good. Its a western in space. Also I think the chemistry of the cast is great but between Mal and Zoe its like Alias Smith and Jones an early 70's western and the last before Star Wars. I knew this but Glen Larson the producer of ASJ says this too. He made BSGos with the same chemistry between Apollo and Starbuck in the os based on the ASJ. Now that reminds me so much of Mal and Zoe. I just wish for one more season becuase its not right the show even with BDM needs to be put to rest. I thought that stargate was very different for scifi. But FF has alot stuff from the past in it. Which is why its good.

Hi,

Verseexplorer:

Thanks, I only descovered Firefly less than a week ago so i wouldn't call myself a dedicated fan just yet Though i've just gone over and purchased the DVD you recommended (done the impossible) and now i'm looking at the visual companion on Amazon. Thanks for the heads up on the other links :)

Well, that genuinely gave me four nights of happiness, again it's ashame it came to an end so soon, i was really looking forward to getting to know it a little better :)

Yep i think i'll buy the comics also, though i don't think that'll be as good as watching the real thing :)

Maybe people should make a fan film

It seems there's a lot of heart surrounds this story, both the creation of and the following.

Thanks again.

- David.

Hello & welcome to the verse. I see a number of Browncoats have already welcomed you aboard. It's a wonderful place to muse and explore all things Firefly and Serenity. I'm sitting here in my Serenity tee-shirt getting ready to re-watch an episode or two.

We're still holding.

You're Welcome, EverLite and Siri. I was a fan of Firefly when it was on F*X, but when it was canceled, I thought it was over. I was delighted when I saw the reruns on the SciFi channel in 2005. I was ecstatic to find out that there was a movie made based on Firefly. I was there in the theater for the opening day of Serenity. I had to find out more about the Browncoats online that had helped to make this possible. I checked out several sites last summer, and I ended up here at FFF.net. I have made a lot of friends. I've never been part of a fandom before, but I do love the Browncoat community.

Ahoy, everlite! Magic mousie says you're
#25957 to sign onto our shiny crew. We
hope you'll feel right welcome among us.

Strawberries are in the box over here, and
there's a mug o' Mudder's Milk standing ready.
Somewhere around here are a couple of people
who deal in free virtual browncoats for all the
new members. They'll show up sooner or later.

In the meantime, stash your stuff in one of the
cages down here, and come on up to the galley
to question the buffet. Got delights from all
over the known 'Verse.

Please don't step on ShipsCat or into her dish.

As for fan films, there have been vids made and
there are undoubtedly others underway. This:

http://www.intotheblack.ca/index.php?q

is interesting. It's a video being made which is
in the 'Verse but not our ship or crew. Take a
look.

We love your story -- all of us fell in love one
way or another, and now we are hopeless.

zerodarling!

Another rejection? Okay. We change the
opening montage to one rejection after another
and *then* you either apprentice yourself to
someone OR wait until next year's applications
open and hit 'em all again.

OR, more easily, the next one you get is an
acceptance!

I called in some pretty heavy fire-power in the
candle-lighting business and asked specials just
for you.

Yum, that's some high-class chocolate-y protein

you'd call it.

Hang in there and consider your options.
