as we all know well, mal and zoe fuaght with a passion againts the alliance when it was taking over. also the blue sun corporation that moved in to fill in the needs of everyone, at the price of thier rights. so are heroes dedicated themselves to fighting these massive super powers that controlled poeples lives, thoughts, clothing, food, drink, currency and buisiness, shouldn't we?
correct me if i'm wrong but i can queit a few large modern day corporations that act the same way as the alliance and the blue sun, in that they don't care about poeple or their lives or rights, only basic profit margen, such as: wall mart, fred meyer, target, sony, microsoft, FOX!(everyone hates them) nintendo, bandai, countless food and toy chains, macintosh, dozens or car companie ETC. ETC. so for the sake of the cause, we should, THE BROWNCOATS who support the great show/movie/comic most of all be doing more to fight the largest tyranical threat to human kind: corporate america.
for the sake of all browncoats: RISE GORRAMIT!

Alliance, yes. Blue Sun, no.

What right were taken away by them? Oh right, none.

Depends. Something large isn't necessarily evil (though there will certainly be corruption within). Arguably the world food program, among other UN projects, would be an example of something that is huge, but not evil.

Btw, you can't control people's thoughts. Not in general.

Sony? Nintendo? Bandai? Macintosh (perhaps you mean Apple?)?

I think you've gone to the bad place. Perhaps there's a prescription that needs filling?

Sig analyzed your post more thoroughly than I have, but I too am at a loss to think of anything Mal and Zoe did to "fight" Blue Sun. Rather, I got the sense they weren't even aware of how pervasive it was as a corporation. (Were any of the characters really, besides River and maybe Simon?)

Don't make faces.

No personal attacks here, please. Yeah, there is an explicitly political side to Firefly. The corporate takeover of elected governments is a process that is well underway, and it's been a science fiction staple all the way back to The Cold Equations (1954).

Well, if it wasn't for Microsoft or Apple, you wouldn't even be able to post the message you posted. If it wasn't for Fox, Firefly wouldn't exist. And if it weren't for food companies...um.....we'd all be dead. LOL!

Yeah, companies are only interested in money for the most part. But, those same companies employ a lot of people. They give people their livlyhood. My grandfather went to work for Coca-Cola right out of school, and he retired with them. He says, to this day, that Coca-Cola is a great company to work for and he was always treated well. If I remember right, in the commentary on Serenity, (the show, not the movie) Joss said Blue Sun was kind of based on Coca-Cola. Coke's not evil. It's just HUGE!

Plus, you have to think about all the charities and donations that the big companies give to. I don't see them as controling us. In the real world, they're helping. If they weren't, they'd go bankrupt, cause people would stop buying there products.

Yes, there are some companies out there that some people may consider "evil", like tobacco companies. But in the real world, companies provide goods and services to people. If they didn't, they would go under.

The Aliance and Blue Sun were fictional evil entities. Heck, the Aliance wasn't even evil. They were just different from Mal and the crew.

TRAILRUNNERMARK

Corporations are important because they provide efficiencies of scale, allowing improvements in our collective standard of living. They aren't inherently evil or good. They provide the organization needed to coordinate thousands of people's work to accomplish tasks.

However, have you watched "The Corporation" ? It's a bit of an eye-opener and compares the psychological profile of a psychopath to the attributes of a corporation. The basic problem with the corporate structure is that it hasn't been given the motivations to direct it's actions toward the common good. Their primary motivation is to return a profit to their shareholders, the people who provided the capital to create them. That's why we need governments to provide regulation and laws so that profit isn't the only motivation, at the expense of the environment, human rights, etc.

first of all the reason i say they faught the the blue sun is becuase the blue sun is the alliance big buddie. they greatly support and recieve support from the alliance. the blue sun tests on human subjects. if thats not violation of rights then what the gorram hell is? and ofcourse not everything big is evil. and as for some of the corporations i listed haven't done horrid things but they i mentioned them becuase they too only pretend to care about you. and please, i own a computer, a playstation 1, a wii and a DS, i don't reject anything big, but several of are largest corporations that browncoats shop at and support annex, harm and destroy the homes and lives of inocent poeple in the quest for the almighty dollar.
i think to call yourself a browncoat and then ignore this by directing anyone who brings it up to the sych ward, is hypocraitical. at best. and keep in mind while replying, i didn't say all of them.

and yes to TRAILRUNNERMARK, i agree that with out corporations we would have thousands out of work and no proper way to organise trade to all the small buisinesses to get suffeseint supplies to everyone, but many of the things they DO in that quest is what needs to be stopped. i have seen the corporation, and WAL MART: the high cost of low price, and read dozens of forums and books about the harmfull actions of corporations. so wasn't mal supporting rights and freedom when he went to battle with alliance? i ask you again, shouldn't we be supporting rights and freedom?

sorry, but did you say the alliance wasn't evil?
how is an entity that arises out of the galaxy and wants to control every aspect of government on every known planet, and when succeding, proceeds to ignore those who need them most on the less "classy" planets. only coming to them to impose new laws or wanted posters NOT EVIL? and for pittys sake, have you know eyes? i know i'm starting to sound a little crazy, but you know, so was mal so thats okay, i'll be crazy to get my message across here.corporations help. alot. and i certainly do not suggest getting rid of them, but they DO in fact harm poeple. yes they have to give to charities to look good, but you think they would if it didn't look good? let's examine that: thousands of chinese (and other nationality) workers, live in small concrete boxes. they work for long hours making only enough money to continue living were they are. they have no union and they ther for have no way to better themselves. these poeple work for our corporations. now an argument i'v heard to this before is "well they cant help those poeple cuase it's there government and it would cost to much for the corporation. this is not true. the corporations COULD help these poeple. they don't becuase it would mean they make less money. they also could help the poeple who's children are deformed from toxic polution in ther water supply, or the countless other problems they cuase. if my arguments here haven't comvinced anyone that we should make our best effort to help them and stop the corporations vile actions EVEN if it costs the corporations, then i begin to wonder what it means to some to be a browncoat.

Ummm... Tyrantkiller? The Alliance ain't exactly evil... true, they got too big for their boots when they asked for conformity, but that was the only, read the ONLY thing that the Browncoats rebeled against (Joss said it himself; "Yes, you have all the Healthcare and Medicines and good stuff for us, but we will not conform to you, and that is what they are fighting for". Yes, that ain't the EXACT quote, but that's the general gist of it). So, Mal and Zoe were fighting against being like everyone else, but they supported all of the good stuff. The 'Liance wasn't evil, it was grossly misguided, and Blue Sun was fine until they thought they could dive into Rivers' brains. As Mal said, "They think that they can make people better, and I do NOT hold to that."

Having fun yet?

you think river was the first or only person they ever tested on. and as for nonconformity being the only thing they were fighting againts, it was obviously rights that they were fighting for becuase when they lost, every one on the outer planets lost thier rights. "that's the alliance, unite everyone so everyone can be interfered with or ignored equally." -mal. i think that the show delivers a strong message about standing up for individuals' rights, and for what you believe in. if this is not the messsage, what is? and thank you for not attacking me, TRAILRUNNERMARK and Mojave.

also a little lesson in vocabulary.
saying "we won't conform to you. and thats what they were fighting for." doesn't mean be like everyone else. to conform just means to allow yourself to become part of a system. so mal and zoe were just refusing to become part of the tyranical system.

Lessons in vocabulary are all well and good, as is running spell check (ahem), but the original poster is on a rant and has posted at least four times in a row. I may not be an English teacher, but some of those messages do seem to border on the incoherent.

How about a deep breath and reading the replies and then considering them using critical thinking skills, or at least trying to hear what the other person's saying?

It's all very well to be passionate about something, but covering your ears and shouting LALALA doesn't usually bring anyone else around to your way of thinking.

Or were you not actually wanting discussion, because this is probably not the site to bring things up on in that case...?

please excuse my spelling. and as for covering my ears and saying LALALA, i am responding to several posts at once and i am infact addressing each issue as it comes up. i am trying not allow responding to several arguments at once become a rant but i have to say i am surprised to find so much contreversy over "it's our resposibility to help poeple in the spirit of the show. even if thats means CEOs make less money."

Sometimes stating what you mean as concisely as possible is best. Rhetoric can come later.

Everyone has there opinions. But here's something to think about. And I'm not attacking you.

You've sais more than once that you question people that claim to be a Browncoat, but do nothing to help people. First of all, being a Browncoat means you're a fan of Firefly/ Serenity. Yes, helping people is good, which is why Browncoats have been known for their charitable donations and fund raisers. However, they were not REQUIRED to do that. They did it because they wanted to. You, on the other hand, are saying that if we want to call ourselves Browncoats, we should be overthrowing our government and banning food from companies and growing our own food, cause you say it's easy, even though I live in an apartment surrounded by concrete, or else we're hypocrites for calling ourselves Browncoats! You are trying to make us do something....kind of like the Alliance.

alright, i'm an extremest. when i hear browncoat i think of in the show browncoats who go all out for what they believe and thats what I aspire to.
and again, all i want is to stop the opresive aspects of corporations, not through them out. i didn't state my meaning clearly enough and i appoligise. i am fairly new to the fandom and thought more poeple viewed the title as i do.
