If you lived in the time of Firefly's verse and had a choice....where would you desire to live your life?

A) Within the Alliance core planets?
B) On one of the outer rim worlds?
C) Out in the black, taking jobs as they come?

Maybe a stupid question, but I'd like to know where people imagine themselves in this verse.
Personally, I'm such a wuss who neeeds his comforts & gadgets, I'd have to say within the Alliance Core.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

How about somewhere between the totally restricted core and the totally wild outer rim? I like Persephone, myself.
Much as I adore the beautiful Serenity, I don't think I could live out all my days on a ship.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Got the hang of those emoticons JD

Outer Rim worlds. I'd be quite happy out there with minimal tech' as long as I could take a ride out into the black once in a while. Maybe have my own little cargo shuttle. Yeah, that'd be sweet.

I like Persephony...I'd like to hook up with that gal who gets out of her fancy servant-made dress in no time at all if a schoolboy winks at her.

Hmm. Persephone leaps to mind. Or Ariel. There's a certain appeal to making a difference and... embarrassingly large stacks of money! :) LOL. But living on our boat has its charm, too, of course.

I reckon my spoiled, Western lifestyle has me realize I probably wouldn't cut it without my current life luxuries. Which, paradoxically, is precisely why living on our boat appeals so to me! I look at our crew almost in envy (sans the negativity) for their ability to live on Love alone. And I look at them with great admiration, too. Knowing, and seeing, how every deck, dirty as it may be, brims with an atmosphere of true care and friendship, that alone makes you realize our crew is part of something very special. Oh yes, I want a part of that... without actually being a part of it? Does that make sense? To paraphrase a well-known saying: I want to eat my cookie without having it.

Sigh. Firefly confounds my heart. And that's a good thing.

TRAVELER

I would be on one of the Core Planets. I enjoy the different cultures that melt into large cities. The festivals and the special events that are are a part of the large cities.

Good question.

I think I'd try to set up a democratic farming community on one of the outer planets. With enough weapons to keep the reevers and anyone that would mess with us at bay.

I would also try to save as many extict species from
The Earth that was and save them. We'd set up renewable energy production so life wouldn't be too brutal.
Of course the crew of Serenity would be welcome any time. Maybe Simon and River could stay with us.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Me? I'd be happy on a ship staying clear of the law and the Alliance answering to no one but myself.

If I had to be planet bound I would want to live on a rim planet. Somewhere nice and quiet. Nothing beats country living!

SHAMELESS

I think you also got part of how I would feel... I don't think I'd be able to live as the crew of Serenity does, yet I envy them for doing so. Me? I need my culture. My mind requires things to do with it, and I'd be lookign for education and concerts, and while I'm not judging those who wouldn't be able to get onto the core planets, fact is that the outer rim wouldn't exactly have very good orchestras, choirs, or universities, just because of money issues. But I'd be torn, since I wouldn't be happy that there were people out there that needed the money I'd spend to go to the opera - they'd use it for a month's worth of food - but honestly? I'd probably end up believing that I was just one person and couldn't do anything. I might even be so naive as to believe that the Alliance really did take care of everyone. Yeah, that sounds about right. But while I need those two things - good music and good opportunities to learn and use my mind - if I couldn't find loving people on the core planets, I'd leave after I got a college degree and bring my music recordings with me.

Attack/track dogs bred 1st class - $250-500 per
Highpowered assault rifles - $600 per
The look on your face when I show up on your doorstep with a bigfoot - ... Priceless

CERES

Persephone looked like there was a mix of cultures and lifestyles which would make it an interesting place to live. The city on Beaumonde where Serenity was checked over looked lively, maybe based on Hong Kong, but I wouldn't want to spend too many evenings in the Maidenhead Bar - too much fighting .
It'd be amazing to live on Serenity, but I think I'd often get the feeling I needed my feet on firm ground.
Live on a core planet? mmmmm no.

A ship. I'd be out sailing the black. Not sure what I'd do to put bread on the table, but I'd figure out something.
