Around here, if you're at a cocktail party or something and you meet someone and the response to "What do you do?" is "I work for the Government." you leave it at that. No questions, cause they are either CIA, NSA, DOJ or some other acronym you need a high security clearance for!

I like being able to say "I work for a furniture store." No mystery there.

Ick. It was $2.55 here yesterday, which was still damn high, as we usually have the best prices in the country.

Well as long as MrG isn't planning on using the Serenity logo as a bullseye I guess I'm ok with...wait no I'm not. I still think tattoos are dumb. And how are you going to feel when Joss loses his mind George Lucas style and Serenity Episode I comes out? There will be a goofy CGI reaver that joins teenage Mal on a slap stick adventure where he falls for princess Hillary Duff. Right about then laser removal is going to sound pretty sweet.

Well, as you are distinctly in the minority here with your non-tattooed body, I think the correct phrase you should have used is : "I still think a tattoo is not for me."

Humans have been tattooing themselves for several thousand years. If it ain't for you, no problem. But if it is for someone else, you should respect that, too.

I've seen it done. Sometimes on purpose (one guy had something about "tastey fish soup" in Chinese written down his leg), and sometimes not on purpose, but because (1) they got a crappy translation or (2) the tattoo artist wasn't practiced at writing Chinese and made simple mistakes.

And beautiful. You forgot beautiful.
Asiatic languages imply something much, much more with one simple word than European words ever can. For me, that is the draw.
I would agree, if someone gets a kanji they saw on a tattoo parlor shop because it's "pretty" and "different", then I would agree.

Funny & True story, which kindof made me rethink my tattoo. One day Tidbit & I were standing in front of our local Chinese restaurant, waiting for our order. It is called "China Dynasty." My son saw writing on the door and asked what it meant. I said "Proabably China Dynasty." He looked me square in the eye and asked if the tattoo on my back said "China Dynasty."! I had to laugh.
