Interesting things:
BSG will Pass QaF Monday or Tuesday. Depends on how well they keep it together this weekend.

I updated the charts on my machine, will post them Monday of course. You've GOT to see this! Honestly, there may be tears. Suffice it to say, there is only one chart where Brown isn't on top.

Keep voting Browncoats!

So I decided to make my own little script to determine some of the information that I thought would be interesting that isn't in the figures FlatTop and Leadb are giving. I'm trying to figure out if I can limit that list in some way to just the "interesting" bits, but I can't come up with a definition of "interesting" that really has an effect of limiting it much.

First off the entire top ten is pretty much always interesting.

It seemed to me that I could limit the rest by only including them if if was a short amount of time until something happens. But with only one exception (Stargate Atlantis, which considering Jewel's in it I imagine many of us care about), the entire bottom 20 has something happening within a month, and an awful lot have something within a week.

And the range from 10-20 also has a lot of shows with stuff happening soonish, and the shows people here are most likely to care about (Buffy, Angel and SG1) are on the high end in the "days till something happens".

Can anyone think of a way of limiting the list that makes sense to post?

Some interesting predictions in the next few weeks. Perhaps put them in groups based on time to event - Next week, Next month, Much later.

176 days is an awful long time. The Xenites will rally just like Bonanza and blow that out a few more weeks or even months. We have got to increase our *consistent* vote much nearer to 2K.

What's interesting and what's not; that's the key thing. It's pretty subjective. I did the top10 +BSG on the basis of "keeping an eye out" for fast risers. When I started doing that, there was some risk that someone behind us would catch up; at this point, we (and Bonanza and Xena) are sufficiently entrenched it would take a pretty big and sudden splash for a show to catch us "unawares". I've continued with the periodic top10+BSG just as a "something different" to report now and again; and typically when I did that I might throw in some observations about other shows not necessarily in the top10.
Frankly, I'd suggest you pick what interests you; if there's shows that are rising fairly quickly (like Combat!), include 'em. Shows that have a Whedon tie in, and you want to, include 'em (Buffy, Angel). A particular show getting close to a move up or down, include 'em. My guess is you will find there's a certain amount of thrash in what is interesting, and that can be a bit of a pain to include / exclude. But in general, if you find it "interesting", figure enough other folks will too it is worth posting. Or do the whole top40 and don't worry too much; it's just "one screen"

BTW, if you'd like some more historical data, pop me a message via the FFF mail thingie with your email addr (or post it here if you don't mind "bots" who strip emails from sites like this sending you spam) and I'll pop over some top40 stats (How about the 1st of each month that I have, and all of March and April (that I have, I actually missed one or two)?

A lot of truth to that! While there is a "point in time" nature to the hall; it is "permanent". Even if we later tire of pushing the numbers up on this poll, we'll be there... right behind Xena!

Folks, just wrote a "longish" append about the TVtally site:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=28026

In short, they have massively re-done the "episode" rating. While I'm not thrilled with the fact they are still posting on the "front page" the top 5 episode and otherwise still show "inter-series" episode rankings; the site management has gone a long way to minimize the -ability- of folks to run around and "tear down" the rankings of "opposing shows." While still concerned regarding the future of episode voting there, for the moment it seems to be "ok". See the above post for details and a request to our fellow Browncoats to put "honor" over "victory" in episode rankings there.

Not that rumors are much to hang a hat on, but it sounds like the Xena crew is setting it's sights on 300,000 as their next goal.

I did some math; we need to out vote the Xena team by about 300 votes a day* -on average- if we are going to get to 500,000 before them. If they continue keeping up their votes by "baby stepping" their goals from now until 500,000; then we are going to have to find a way to keep our votes consistently ahead of them.

*this assumes they vote around 1000/day; numbers change a bit if they go up or down.

We gotta find a way to get the count up near 2000 per day or we will not catch Xena. I'm happy to keep on voting regardless.

Is it possible to contact *dormant* members of this board ? People who've not used the board in say 12 months and ask them to pitch in ?

2000 would be goodness, I can go for that ;-)

"Possible", yes... and no. Yes in that the "admin" of this board requires everyone to provide an email address; no in the sense that generally the policy of boards is not to send emails. I don't recall if this board has such a policy or not; however, in any case you would have to get the admin (Haken?) to send it out. And obviously he (she? what do I know??) would know if it was within policy or not. As you might guess, I have no particular "in" with admin here.

I've done some messing around, I'm not convinced you can vote more than once based on the design of the voting system. Other folks have claimed to have made multiple votes.

Tell us "how so" it doesn't let you vote? Does it say you have already voted? Does it say, "Talk like an American you nasty down under dude?" If the former, then I'd say someone else on your subnet is voting; sadly, the system is not designed to let multiple folks vote from the same subnet. If the latter, then you are appropriately paranoid and we are going to have to have a little "talk to" with FLaTRich (just kidding, I'm sure it's not the latter ;-) )

I'd go for B

I don't have any problems voting from NSW South Coast.

That's pretty much my thoughts on it. Perhaps rather than just a "please vote" type email, it could be a short newsletter to pick out some highlights of the past year in an effort to woo them back to the fold. I'll muse on this before I go hassling the administrator.

I say we go for a 3K day. It'll be hard to do, take some time, but I'm sure it's doable. Along the way, we'll pick up some more regulars, get closer to 2k average.
Our overall Average is approaching 1,000/day. How shiny is that!?

I say we make a big push to get to the Hall of Fame. We're less than a month from that point, it's not going to pull away from us, and getting people on board for a big month-long push is easy. Getting people on board for something that's going to take the better part of a year at this rate is less so.

Best part is that if we do make that big push we'll be showing numbers that indicate a much shorter amount of time to catch Xena too :)

I'm in for that. All the way to 3K.
