OK so now advice question. My friend Carol is dating this guy and she says he's great. They have a ton in common and she really enjoys his company. It's getting serious, but here's the problem. She says she doesn't feel a spark. SO she wants to know if she should end this relationship with this great guy who cares about her and treats her really well and who she really likes and enjoys just because there's no spark...What do you all think???

If this is what she has in mind, I think she should forget the spark and go with great guy. Honestly though, I think she needs to decide what she is after. While the spark may fade as Mavs said (and she is a firmly-grounded oracle about such matters; I wouldn't dare disagree ), I'd have to maintain that its embers will always be there. But if it was never there, it may kindle over time and it may never. What is her ultimate heart's desire? A spark that may be a flash in the pan? For some women that really is all they want. And they keep on getting married until they finally get acceptably close or die trying. (cf. Taylor, Gabor or the fresh out of the gate Spears) They thrive on tumult. Or risk the possible eternal grass is always greener, sour grapes mentality or life of endless boredom but safe and secure.

I wouldn't cast him off just yet, but I would certainly not seriously entertain thoughts of the "rest of my life with this guy" either. There are levels of seriousness as with all things. The end result of dating does not have to equate to a life partner. I refer back to my relationship shelf-life theory. He may the very rightest guy for what she needs right now, but it may be that it's not meant to last. Doesn't mean she can't enjoy it now.

Advice from the guy who has messed up his life in more ways than I can count to depths unimaginable to the casual observer. Take it for what it's worth.

Don't go away forever Tinadoll. Forever is a very long time. I don't know much about you but I'm sure it's not your fault people tend to only comment on things they can offer advice about or can relate too.

So here is where I offer my two cents on the spark issue. A short while back I broke off my relationship whith an old friend who's company I enjoy and who genuinely cares for me. No spark and I didn't even feel bad when I did it. Maybe I'm a freak but it made sense to me. Spark is important unless you actually want the relationship to last. Want forever? Shop in the spark free section.

Coolest F-ing kitty pics ever! Babysis had that flick sitting in the living room last night and it took all my power not to watch it. Instead I watched American Hardcore. A documentary on the Punk explosion of the late seventies/early eighties. Awesome! I also got to watch most of Mean Streets. Another great flick.

OK weird ponder... when you were younger and had your first crush on a t.v./film person, did it ever turn out that the person became something you'd be embarrassed to admit you had a crush on??
To explain: when I was 12 or 13 I saw this movie Once Bitten and the lead guy was so cute and sweet I had a huge crush on him...that guy is , sadly, Jim Carrey...see now that's embarrassing!

JAMESTHEDARK

Best Vacation: Florida, at Christmas time when I was 10. Not only did I manage to ditch this suck-hole Island during the coldest time of the year, but I managed to have a big, Disney World Christmas with my family and my grandparents (this was, of course, before they got homesick and moved back to their ancestral home, which is right next door to where I grew up). I don't have much direct memory of that time -- nor of any time in my childhood, make no mistake -- but I still get that wistful feeling every time I smell warm citrus.

Worst Vacation: Bible camp. By God I hated that place. Not only was it entirely unpleasant from a theological perspective (I'm not Catholic, damn it!), but it was home to some of the most abrasive, abnoxious little snots I've ever had the misfortune of knowing. And every single one of them seemed to be a major-league pitcher, because I still can't understand how somebody can get a shoe to fly that fast with so little motion, and manage to aim it so precisely on consecutive occassions for my almost-sleeping head.

Adult moment: Haven't had one, yet. Hell, I still feel, sometimes, like I'm that twelve year old kid who still needs to hide in the bathroom when the lunch-bell rings.

Spark: Bah. I don't need a spark. Sparks hurt. I'd rather have something warm, calm, comforting, and safe than something tempestuous and exhilerating. I'm looking for a romantic partner, not a sky diving lesson.

Bah. I'm sick, I'm in withdrawls from my worthless medication, and I'm stressed. Going to the place where beds and TV are.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Cold, wet, miserable day here in MD. Where'd Spring go? I want some sunshine!

This morning we were treated to 2 songs on the drive to school, as there was an accident on New Hampshire Ave. Carson said he was in a silly mood, so I put on "Mexican Radio" from Wall of Voodoo. He laughed at the "I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbaqued iguana" line. He also liked the way the music switched from speaker to speaker, so I put on one of my favorite oldies, "Rock On" by David Essex. That switches speakers too and he liked it a lot.

NV, I liked the Peep in the Microwave halftime show. LOL. We've got blue ones at home. I smell a science experiment!

Good afternoon everyone.

It's a good day. The sun is out, it's warm and not too hot.

And my friend's cousin is being evicted from his house tomorrow. How we laughed about that.

Carson dubbed her "Ellie". Not too original, I know. But it's growing on me. He also named Dora (the Explorer).

As I'm not "really" a Beatles fan (eep!) I'll have to download this one.

I know, I know. I've been mashed in many a quarter for my love/hate relationship with The Beatles. But does the fun have to end over this ONE shortcoming I have???

My friend and I always laugh at the misfortunes of his cousin because he is such an idiot. And he didn't pay his mortgage so he deserves to be evicted.

MSG

Oh those kids...It was the multi cultural assembly and the poly kids did several things including a hula. So then they say they want teacher participation ( at this point I realize how many of the kids on the stage know me and try to hide) and of course the little weasels make a beeline for me and drag me up there. SO there I am trying to hula dance in jeans and my man with the screaming brain tee shirt...Ok not one of my finest moments...I am so getting revenge when they least expect it.

Oh I like Elli...my car's name is Mavis and my old car ( which MisterG now drives) is named Stewart:)
