Ok I'm basing the suggestion off of what I know of her and NV and She's history. Since she's a mom and all, I'd bet it been a while since she had some quiet "me" time and that would make it a lovely date..

Whoa. Good date idea. I likes alot. But it may be a bit early for that. Also, I'm not entirely sure we'll be alone. My mom... no, kidding. But her son might be with us. There is a benefit showing of Now, Voyager at our local theater and though it won't be formal I'm still a bit nervous and a little apprehensive.

Why didn't I date more in high school? Well, other than the fact that all the girls that wanted to go out with me were into me for a quick fling or some BS emotional support.

ARRGGGHHH Squad assemble!

Ah. You know more of the backstory. To me, that's a good third date.

First date is movies and long talks in the booth at IHOP.

Time for me to fly, everyone. Literally. It's so windy here I think I'll get launched down the street!

I will see you all tomorrow. Take care, everyone.

Don't show up with the florists $125 Iwannagetlaid arrangement. But have _something_.

My guess is that what would work for me wouldn't be exactly what would work for you. I'd bring a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a cork screw. Tell her I found a wine I've been dying to find an excuse to try. Add candles and chocolate. Cheese selection.

Very likely this exact thing would be all wrong for you. But work with the formula. Your friend recommended this alcohol. You've heard good things about this movie.

Or just ask her.

Ok so movie date then...don't bring flowers...bring a toy for the little one. Also put the munchkin in between you during the movie and be sure to buy jumbo popcorn:)

Or revise my blanket idea and make a fort and watch a movie at home with all three of you in the fort. Get take out pizza and have a ball inside the fort of fun.

Holy intimate first dates batman! Nooooooo!

First dates = public place

At least IMO. Granted you two have a bit more history together, but still you don't want to just jump right in to candle lit living rooms with pillows and blankets. Sounds like a scene out of Austin Powers.

You must have some idea of what she likes by now. Just do dinner and something you'll both enjoy. Go to a play, a movie, museum, sports event, play some pool, just whatever it is make it low key.

Whoa. Great ideas folks. I still wanna bring something.
Here's the lowdown on her son. He is nine, very smart, a little on the sensative side, loves stories (especially of the comicbook hero sort), and like me is large for his age. He pretty much looks like a junior high kid. Being over half Native he looks different from everyone else.

Alrighty then....

Bring the little one a copy of the Ghost Rider. (get them hooked early) and just a single flower of some sort or another for your date. I usually like to go with the single red rose but some women hate roses so if she has a favorite flower bring that (if you know what it is).

Make it a play date. Like Chucky Cheese or some such. Those places are a lot of fun for adults as well and will help keep the child's interest.

Or Putt Putt is also a good choice as well. Something that isn't just sitting around. That way the son won't be bored and want to leave so it might last more than an hour because he is bored and complaining.

Ahem. You seem to be a decent sort, and I can't find it in me to end you. Hell, I couldn't even wound you and feel good about it. Whaddya say we let bygones be bygones? I might even get learnt in the process.

NVG. Taking it easy is the best route that I can see. Not being a big dater in high school either, I can so relate. When the liberty of college dawned on me I ran--flew--into some hasty and badly thoughtout situations, trying to make up for lost time. I know, too, of your history (though not nearly as much as MsG, I'm sure). The IHOP sounds perfect 'cept I think beer would prolly be in order. (None of the strong stuff: NO! BAD!) Grindhouse an' a couple of brews. Or maybe Smokin' Aces. Of course if she's not into that kind of movie then by all means go more chick friendly. (DVD's are a perfectly suitable substitute for the theatre experience as long as you have an answer for the old "Your Place Or Mine" question.

But I'm a dullard.

You beat me to it Kel. But I agree, a single flower for the lady and a comic book for the little one would be a great idea.

As for anywhere you could go, I've always found that those fun little out-of-the-way local places work great. Just make sure it's something that all three of you will enjoy.

Also, try to pay more attention to her than you do to her kid. You could love her kid to death, and things'll work better if you can show that you'll get along, but you need to make sure that she knows you're dating her and not her son.

May you have enough.

RUGBUG

Howdy all! Getting a late start to my Monday after having a VERY early start to Sunday.

Horse show was, um, a horse show. We sucked it up big time in the jumping classes, but pulled it together for the flats. I kept having to remind myself that it's been a year and a half since Mr. Pony has been to a real horse show...and it's my first time doing a real 2'6" course. We survived, and sometimes that's an accomplishment.

Proms: Only went to my senior prom. I wasn't a dancer and rarely dated, so other dances/proms just weren't happening.

My dress was black, strapless, sweetheart neck line with a dropped back (was about 2-3" inches above the waist). BIG, HUGE bow in the back, a la Madonna in Material Girl video. Full tea length skirt. Was okay for it's time (1989). Date was beyond his time (and pre- my more sophisticated tastes ) and wore a dinner jacket with a red cumberbund and tie. I wasn't a huge fan then, but I think I would like that more these days.

NVG and dates: keep it mellow and kid friendly, if son will be there. Movie, food, conversation. Don't think of it as a date. You're just hanging out.

OK am pointing out now that this is an on again off again relationship and it's not like this is their first date...however it is their first date on the try again and fix some of the broken plan...which is good:)

I still think blanket fort and videos with pizza would be fun and kid friendly..though I love th idea of giving the little one a nice Ghostrider comic.

I did have an inquiry on the paintball thing from her. Seems I gotta turn my guns down a bit for anyone just starting though. Of course there are other concerns, but there is always fun to be had in the field.

Thanks for the warning on over doing it with her son. I hate fake asses who try too hard. I ain't tryin' to get in good with him to be good with his mom. I just wanna be sure there will be no conflict because of a connection.

ADD: Here the RugBug. Glad the show went well. I'm pretty sure we'll end up hanging out for an evening due to some new developments. But I'd rather hang out and have fun than go out and stress. Although a kid friendly place sounds fun. I could really go for some video games or puttin' right now.

My lovely lady - this IS a prom date. Yes. I have a virtual black tux, or a virtual white tux, with many colored accessories to choose from. I'll match the color to your dress. So Friday night it is.

Perhaps MSG and/or Mav would like to shop with you? Are they bringing virtual dates? (I haven't heard.)

I was thinking not this next thread coming up, but the one after that. Should land Thurs/Fri depending on The Jonny Mandate.

So we would need a theme, refreshments (I nominate msg, as her virtual food is always the tastiest...), a band, decorations. Anything else?

Oh I'd be happy to do prom refreshments. Lovely mini cakes, and little meatballs and puffs and such...along with your choice of chicken or beef dinner ( I will figure out what exactly in a bit)

Morning all
HUGS mav:)

Right now I'm trying to logistically coordinate the making of red beans and rice for 80 people and I seriously hope Aunt Jean's recipe will work when times by 10...

Yum!

Check allrecipes.com, msg. If you find a recipe that is extremely similar to the one you are upsizing, they have a serving/ingredient calculator on each recipe. Just input how many servings you need & the program will adjust accordingly.

MrsFlyVote needed a nice evening, so last Friday I made Fillet Mignon with seasoned Portabella mushrooms and grilled asparagus. Served with Caesar salad and an appetizer of Sushi (deli prepared).

Do I qualify to help with the main course?

I would love it.

Been trying to write down recipes for a cookbook. The trouble is that I don't generally use measuring instruments and planned recipes. I cook by.. instinct? I rarely do the same thing twice.

No complaints from MrsFlyVote and FlyVoteJr. He is the only 10yo that I know that requests calamari.

ah my problem exactly...All the recipes I put in the recipe thread ( that are mine anyway) are approximate guess of what I likely put in.

NVGHOSTRIDER

Good mornin' folks. Seems a ton has happened since I left. Virtual prom? Really? I so wanna go but the lack of 'net access at home is an issue. Seems I might be able to play the drunk kid that wouldn't be let in this year. Seems thats a bit of a change. I was the DD for two friends and their dates.

I had the chance for flings RIMG but refused to, for the most part, take them up on the offer. I too had the big brother/teddy bear role, but there were some girls with serious issues who'd do anyone that'd give them the proper amount of attention. Seemed wrong then and it seems wrong now to take advantage.

More stuff happening today, but no clear definition of what. Hope to get back to y'all soon.
