Joss has said that he wrote the script to 'Serenity' with the new viewer in mind, but put a few things in there that we longtime fans will be escpecially able to appreciate. Anyone care to guess at what some of those might be?

My first guess: during some land-based battle, Serenity will make a low-altitude fly-over with engines tipped earthward at full blast and knock a bunch of enemies off their feet/horses.

RIVER
Purple elephants are flying.
MAL
Good. Thanks for the update.

I'm thinking that the Hero of Canton will attempt to use some of his "dishes" or "garbage" chits and get busted in a major way.

Or ... Inara invites Mal into her shuttle and stores away the hourglass.

Maybe during a discussion about the alliance, River uses dinosaur toys to portray herself, Simon and the rest of the crew ... mumbling about 'inevitable betrayal'.

Maybe we'd meet a character named "Ariel" or "Lassiter".

Perhaps while dealing with a rather difficult middleman, Mal could complain about being 'badgered'.

It would be great to see the big red button somewhere. Maybe Wash could hit it at the beginning of the movie and say something like "Message received".

YES!! We needthe red button!!

There also needs to be the theme song in some form or another. Anything with Vera will get a grin out of us as would anything with Dinosaurs.

Lastly we are in dire need of some swearing by pretty floral bonnets and a This Land.

I think it needs to be something that has us Browncoats howling while the rest of the people in the theater are going "what the hell's so funny?"....like Jayne saying he'll be in his bunk, don't even have to be in a sexual context, we'd all get it...or Book saying something about the Special Hell.

But one thing that worries me is my memories of the '96 tv movie of Doctor Who, where they played to the core fans SO much that they lost everyone else. From that point, I'd settle for no inside jokes to have more good Firefly.

If they put them in GREAT; just keep them in balance.

I think a few indside jokes will be fine as long as plot points don't hinge on them. Quiet, off to the side... heck, it'd be kind of neat if they were so subtle that some old fans didn't catch all of them. Then you could feel totally justified seeing it again and again and again - just to be sure you'd caught them all.

I'm all for the button. Also, someone could be humming "The Hero of Canton" while they work.

How about a fox sneaks aboard the ship when they are planetside and causes all kinds of grief getting into the food, defecating in odd places, scaring folks. The crew can take turns cursing at the fox. Jayne can spent a little time trying to hunt it down. When they finally get rid of the fox, Mal could casually mention that the gorram fox almost destroyed his ship.

Book saying "well, isn't that...special" in regards to just about anything.

While on a "job": Mal having dinner at a fine dining establishment with Inarra and being asked by the waiter if he'd like the special of the day - glazed duck garnished with saffron. Mal chokes and spits water all over the waiter.

Jayne, Simon, and River sitting in a waiting room full of people. An employee comes out and calls the next person to be helped as "Jane". Five women and Jayne stand up. Simon & River glance at Jayne then look at each other and just smile...

Any reference to someone or something having "smallish droppings".

There is another answer. Worried about the only the core fans getting the movie? All we need to do is convert everyone and then there isn't a problem any longer.

There is an altercation between two crewmembers and Jayne walks in the room with a rusty chain from the cargo hold and they shut up.

A reference to the Lapon, Whitey Mack, or clearing baffles on a big ship as a tribute to the mission where the term “Crazy Ivan” was said to have been coined.

Jayne touching and smelling everything he can

"Butcher's knife!!"

A bald Book and River says "I liked you better with the hair"

Simon to Mal "You'd have to be dead. Again."

The camera pans across a busy crowd at a port somewhere, planetside or space, and as it passes two men, drunk or somesuch, one is kneeling the other is helping his buddy up and says, "Hell, Static, you know the old saying..." then the camera picks up on Mal and the group.

Crazy Ivan wasn't coined by Firefly. It is the term used to describe in general, Soviet submariners and in specific, the turning a ship 180 degrees and has been around since the early days of the cold war.

One example of it being used in modern cinema is in "The Hunt for Red October" when Jack Ryan is trying to convince the American sub captain that he understands the Russian Captain. He tells him that 'at the top of the hour, he'll do a Crazy Ivan'.

Among other great ideas already lsited, I would like to see a shot of Kaylee's frilly dress. From Shindig I think?

I'd like to hear River quote Jubal Early at some point: "Now does that seem right to you?"

I am torn on how I'd like to see "Hero of Canton" used.

v.1: Jayne singing it to himself while cleaning Vera, and cutting off when someone walks in

v.2: having one the crew (Simon? Wash?) singing it and cutting off when Jayne walks in.
