I'm moving this thread to General Discussion:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=12&t=28327
Because I think it was in the wrong place.
I thought there should be a place for costuming/craft project related discussions. So sewing, knitting, sari wrapping, makeup, etc.... can be in one place. They do seem to segue into each other.

Anyone interested in seeing the fabric I got for my first attempt at a Kaylee jacket?

Hey, excellent! I was just thinking that we needed a costuming/crafters thread and now here it is. Gotta try that with something else. *concentrates hard* I need a million dollars, I need a million dollars ...
Hmmm, doesn't seem to be working as well, dang it :-)
And yes, I would LOVE to see your Kaylee jacket fabric.

Brocade is a bit difficult to capture. It's the same fabric, just with and without a flash.

Oh dear, the pressure!!!!!

Cats willing, there should be some progress this weekend. (For some reason a couple of my cats LOVE that pattern tissue paper!!!! Arrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!)

I would love to see other people's projects. Anyone else have anything going on? When I start my next knitted Jayne hat, I'll post about it here.

If only I could bring my sewing machine to work...

My kitties feel the same way about pattern fabric. They like to park their fat butts right in the middle of it and then bat the edges around with their paws. The little nudniks.

Tissue paper, it's like feline crack. Well, that and sleeping on your fabric and knock items off the table and onto the floor .... Ah, wacky fun. Nice choice of fabric.

Wacky fun indeed - once I get sewing again, I'll have to keep my lovebird in his cage! While it's adorable to watch him run away with something in his mouth that he KNOWS he shouldn't have, it's not a good thing with some objects he picks up (had a bit of a scary incident where I was afraid he would swallow some meds before I got to him).

Any knitters and spinners here? I'm starting to spin using a drop spindle...

No, but Ed McMann tells me that I'm already a winner! That big liar ....
Shameless, I tried spinning a number of years back along with carding and really enjoyed it. Very relaxing. Sadly, however, spinning leads inevitably to knitting and crocheting which don't work out as well for me. I'm just too tense and wind up snapping the yarn or fighting with the needles ....
Whoa, that's some little buzzsaw, Griz. I like the way the bird looks sweet and innocent even as he embarks on his rampage o'destruction ....

I found a cool spot for patterns, they have a "Frontier" line, an "Asian" line and even a pattern for a duster ("Austrialian Drover's Coat" #137) that would look awfully fetching in brown.

Well, it's about time I mentioned my attempt to document all the costumes used on the BDS and BDM. I'm putting all the pictures I have on a website. I would love help and/or thoughts. I'm about 50% done with the pages. I'm chipping away at it when I have time. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Here's a Jayne Hat I knitted last year. I know the ear flaps look weird. I couldn't really see from any screen captures exactly how they were made AND I made this hat for my son and I didn't want the flaps to be too big on him.
I'm going to rip them out and knit new ones when I can work out what I want to do!

Y'know, I was thinking last night (because working full time and being a single mom leaves me with so much free time to just sit around and think!) about Zoe's chainmail armor from the Browncoat scenes and how easy it would be to make a facimilie out of knitting, like they do for stage mail. The black yarn and the silver paint technique.
I did just teach myself how to make some chain mail, but it would take me about 5 years just to make a sleeve, the rate I go.

I hope it's ok to put links to other fff.net costuming threads/questions here.

This is so gorgeous - I am having sewing lessons (please don't faint anyone!!) so I might manage to make a bag soon - I am thinking of brocade too so that it is fine for using at D*C and will fit in with the oriental theme... mind you - my own Kaylee-jacket is so gorgeous - it's going to be hard to find something that isn't going to look really dull by comparisson...
