BLACKOUTNIGHTS

I quit watching television on a regular basis a couple of years ago because the shows I like, such as Firefly, were typically cancelled long before they should have been.

My time's worth a lot to me, and I'll be damned if I'm going to invest it in entertainment that leaves me...shall we say, unfulfilled. Got the DvD, got the movie, not watching TV.

I spend my free time either reading or playing WoW, now. It's much more enjoyable than the tube. The network executives have lost imo.

Interittent usage on my part. There are a few things that catch my eye, but only for so long. Gorram programmers can't seem to quit bending us over with show placement and advertisement. I'll watch the good stuff on DVD when it comes out. Can't exactly bend time and space for network TV.

Oh crap. Generation X is aging. (Runs from thread)

Oh no we're getting OLD!!

Gotta say though, I agree I only watch one network show and that one is Tivo'd first. Anything else that looks interesting I wait for the DVD. The long-standing model for television is gonna change, well it HAS changed, the network suits just haven't wrapped their tiny brains around that fact yet.

I still have some favorites out there, Scrubs especially, but it's more often the reruns I catch late at night if I watch TV at all.

It has changed in that way for sure. But, only for a very small percentage of people. Though we are part of that small percentage, most people have changed along with the suits. How else do you explain the profound success of "reality" tv?

I dropped my cable service right after Babylon 5 ended in '98.
Managed to miss the whole "Reality TV" falderol.

I'm not a Generation Xer but a late Baby Boomer. Network TV has become background noise for other things that I do. If it's on then most likely I'm doing something else too. Like something on the computer, chores etc.

If a reality show is on it's usually one that challenges me a bit like Deal or No Deal. I love making comments on how stupid or brilliant the contestant are when I glance at the TV.

I do watch one or two so called "destination" shows like The Office and Heroes occasionally. Otherwise it's the so called "cable" channels-I have satellite, like the History channel. TLC or Discovery. Sometimes they are just noise too.

If nothing on is interesting it's something I've TIVOed or a DVD.

BTW one of my favorite shows is a game show-Jeopardy. I've been watching it for several decades and it still gives my brain a workout.

"I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Bob."

Sorry, it just seemed the appropriate place for that quote. I sat down the other day and looked at just how much TV I watch vs. things I have taped or on DVD, and it's less than 5%. I'm seriously thinking of dropping my cable. Does that seem right to you?

Perhaps I should've said, "Managed to avoid the whole "Reality TV" falderol."

Most of the time when I watch TV, I just go to Fuse and listen to the music- It's free, it's rock, what more do ya need?
I like Anime and suchlike, but I'll watch it in the Japanese Version, since we in the Americas make a habit of butchering a good show with voice actors that have no rhyme nor reason to be there.

America loves a winner!

I got so annoyed at the poor quality of t.v. a while back, I stopped paying for cable, all together. For 3 yrs, I watched only what came on over the rabbit ears. Funny thing is, I was most annoyed that FOX had canned Dark Angel! Thankfully, the rabbit ears picked up the replacement show quite nicely.

Now I'm watching Firefly and Serenity DVDs on a fully cable functional 46" HiDef screen, and to hell w/ the rabbit ears!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss
