Just was on the time magazine blog thingy and it asks you which tv show you would like saved... go on over there and do your browncoatly duty and tell them what is up... several of my fellow browncoats have already expressed our opinions.... go do the same.

They're talking about current shows, because announcements on the new Fall season schedules are about to happen.

Storming into a conversation that specific and narrow with pleas for a show that's five years gone is going to become one of those Browncoat Backlash moments.

That may be, but.... Others have been posting about deadwood and arrested development.... I wonder if you are lecturing them about reviving other dead shows. I understand that you dont want to storm into a "conversation" but we are Browncoats and this is what we do. BRING BACK FIREFLY.

And it's why, in more circles than preferable, we have a bad reputation.

You need to spend some time reading around if you think I'm a follower here.

The point is that you might think you're winning a battle by using tactics which piss people off. And maybe, sometimes, you are. But you're losing the war.

If people keep doing things to give Browncoats a reputation for being self-involved and inconsiderate ingrates, that HURTS the goal of bringing more people into the fold.

Why you all don't get that escapes me.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Monksdad, while I applaud your enthusiasm and initiative, I think it best that we don't storm that site and start bombarding them with requests to bring back Firefly. As much as I might like to myself, it is simply bad form as that particular link is to a discussion about saving shows currently on the air which are on the bubble and face possible cancellation. I doubt we would have liked it much if other fans stormed our site and flooded us with requests to bring back their show.

I'm all for browncoats getting in there and spreading the word, but I think this particular one we should leave it be.

Gotta chime in here with Browncoat1 and Bix and company, it would be bad form for us to flood in with bring firefly back.

Now, if you still feel very strongly about adding to that discussion, list a current show you like that is in danger of being cancelled list why, then perhaps as an addendum, chime in with a mention of firefly.

That way you chime in on topic, add positively to the discussion and Firefly still gets brought up. It keeps you from looking narrow minded and obsessive. It also may make folks of a current show who have not seen firefly take a secnod look.. "Ohh if they are a Raines fan like me, maybe there is something to this Firefly thing"

Make sense?

I dont see it your way, you dont see it mine.. lots of people are chiming in on long since dead shows on this blog,,,, its asking for opinions..now just in the last few days I have seen firefly mentioned in polls and on TV critics blogs listing best SCiFi shows ever, or Brilliant but canceled and several if not all have mentioned the fact that fox should get off there ass and bring back firefly. Now I dont see the big deal in (if you choose to) going on this blog (which mind you is left open to interpitation as to what it wants)and showing some love for firefly or whatever show you wish.
And another thing, I dont think we are going to get firefly back, i dont think so at all, I think there is a small shot at another BDM but a series is a very very very long shot... but do you think that sitting back and hoping somebody finally gets it and brings it back is going to happen without our "nudging"... it aint gonna happen that way, we have to let people know who we are and what we want. every browncoat has to decide whether to sit back and appreciate what we have and do nothing or to be pro-active and let people know whenver we can that we are still pissed off bring back our show. Percieved BAd Form or not.

I'm responding to this, because well, its a direct response to my post. First of all, all well and good, you posted you did what you believed in and that makes you mighty, I chimed in because posts responding to things like that are a part of what has given us a name as a fanbase that is less than stellar.

To address the second half of your post, because frankly I found it offensive,

If you think I sit back on my ass eating bonbons and lamenting Firefly was cancelled, being content with what we have, you are sadly mistaken.
Since the Firefly dvd's have come out, I personally have recruited over 100 real flesh and blood people to the show. Note, when I do a headcount of recruits, these are my direct recruits that have reported back after borrowing the dvd's that they love them.
Since the firefly dvd's have come out, I have purchased countless copies one at a time, given them as gifts, donated them to libraries, speaking of libraries I have organized donation drives for the local libraries after I learned the local county library did not have a single 'verse related item. I've helped other cities do the same.
No I am not counting those recruits in my total.

When the local screenings started, I was the local browncoat who 'versal sent the tickets to for distribution. Speaking of Serenity, my local browncoats, of whom I am a cocaptain and founder of, canvassed the City of Houston, repeatedly, chatted up every comicbook shop in the city and all their employees.

I've been a voice in the letter writing campaigns, I convinced a local convention to team up with my crew and we brought in Greg Edmonson, Firefly's composer, and the Bedlam Bards, same event we also held a CSS Screening.
When we raised money to donate dvd's to the troops, I was right there, rescuing arial amnulance, browncoat cookbook, countless CSTS screenings besides my own, and many other charities the browncoats represent, I'm one of the guerilla marketers, and I think you will find a donate a heck of a lot of merchandise to events I feel boost the signal.

Even now, every month I pour in over 100 hours to boosting the signal, keeping the 'verse alive, and NO I do not include my internet time in that figure. Doing this is everything from opening up communication lines with the other fandoms in my community and trying to repair the image browncoats have gotten because of a few overzealous people ( sending threats to critics, flooding threads with our please etc.). This past month due to a major injury my hours into the fandom have faltered, but I assure you this month as I recover I am back to pounding the pavement.

Am I special? HEck no, in fact everyone who has voiced a word of caution in this thread has made incredible contributions to keeping the signal alive, helping give the browncoats a good SOLID reputation. They make my contributions look piddling, and I assure you they are not sitting back on their Laurels, their contributions continue to astound me.

I understand your frustration, believe me I do, I love this show I want the story to continue just as badly, but so does everyone else on this board, if we didnt we would not still be hanging around a website for a show cancelled years ago.

If you want to make a difference, the internet is a great place to organize, but soo much can be done in real life.

My goal when I first responded to this thread was not to offend you, I was trying to offer constructive criticism, Why? because I have been here long enough to see the damage flooding sites with posts can cause.

Either way the "damage" for better or worse is done, I applaud your enthusiasm, and well doing something, doesnt mean i agree with it.

best wishes and I hope your post kindles soemones interest in Firefly.
