Hi river! There's a large group of us (76th Independent Army Battalion) and we're planning on marching in the Dragon Con parade in Atlanta this year. As far as we know this is the first time anything like this has been done on a large scale. Dragon Con is one of the biggest scifi/fantasy conventions in the country and apparently attracts a good deal of attention from networks/movie types. Is this helpful? I'm probably not a good one to ask as I've only been to one Dragon*Con (last year)..but that is what I am told...about the network executives, anyway.

Would you mind putting some of that info in the comments section of the site, Sister? The date, any sites related, etc?

Morena Baccarin is now a guest for two upcoming events done by Creation Entertainment:

Stargate Convention
Chicago
August 24th-28th, 2007

"The Official Serenity Salute"
Burbank, CA
Oct. 27th-28th, 2007

I suggest all those who can, attend, and make it known to the Creation Entertainment folk that they are there to see one of the BDHs. Also, let it known that they will attend again in 2008 to see both Morena and Jewel Strait at next year's events for Stargate.

Attendance packages for these events are pricey, although single day passes aren't too bad. The more people who do put up tons of cashy money to see the BDHs -- and make it known that's the main reason for attending -- the more big business may be willing to do someting about our pleas for more Firefly in the future. It's a theory, anyway!

If I'm gonna dream, I'm gonna dream big.

1) submit or request the series to be played on "adult swim".
2) secure rights to broadcast on streaming video website, establish web-site.
3) secure rights to broadcast on local cable stations "local access" stations/channels

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Nice looking site River. I'll be sure to pop over and leave some comments.

Not so funny thing. We were talking about a site... similar to this on Tues in a thread that RiverRunsDeep participated in. In fact, less than an hour after his/her post in that thread:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=20&t=28587

A new thread pops up about "RiverRunsDeep" blog.

In fact, one of my refinements on Tues to that idea (many participated in this brainstorming session) is... similar to what RiverRunsDeep posted in his/her first blog.

I find it interesting that this blog was created after all that discussion. Interesting...

Sorry if I was copying anything, to tell you the truth, I wasn't even reading that thread, I just posted my idea, and when I got no replies, I decided to just make the blog. If someone is already doing what I'm doing, I'll just quit, it wouldn't be good if half of us browncoats were buying on one day and the other were doing something completely different. :( My bad for not reading that whole thread first.

To be entirely honest, I'm not totally convinced. That being said, I'll give you enough of the benefit of the doubt that I won't be making further fuss.

You must understand that being part of the community means participating in it. And when you go off and just do something without involving the community when you know that active discussion is on going, that sends a not so good signal. Especially when your idea is strikingly similar to ones already posted. It's best for the community to toss around ideas when something comes to mind rather than going it alone.

"No man is an island unto himself"
- John Donne

Involving others *improves* ideas.

The other thread is still going, and we'll be presenting some ideas within the next couple days. If you want to be involved shiny.

Yeah I'm all for it, and to further back my statement, look at the second post. I gave the people I had read/asked permission to use their things credit. It's not like I was trying to get credit from someone else's idea. I mean, come on, it's not like it matters who gets it done, it's that it gets done.

That being said, I'll close that site and participate in that thread.

I said I was going to let this drop. I offered some info on how things work around here and somewhat of an olive branch (or at least a "non-aggression pack"). Then you come back with this post?

1) I never said you stole the ideas that was in your second post on that blog nor did I imply it. In fact, I never brought up your second post at all. I was talking about the idea for the site itself which was your first post on that blog. I thought that was obvious because I only referenced the idea for the site.

2) It does matter who gets it done. There are a tonne of reasons why this is the case. Check out some of the posts in the other thread regarding this topic.

Have you never worked in a team environment before? I'm being serious here and I don't mean to be a prick. But, your comments suggest that you haven't.

Here's John Donne Meditations XVII which I referenced prior:

http://www.online-literature.com/donne/409/

It's some words to live by and you'd be surprised just how much that piece has come to life here.

Let's also be clear about something. Discussing with the community is NOT about gaining permission to do something. It's about not duplicating effort. It's about enhancing an idea so that it reaches its full potential. It's about getting people on side. Coordinating effort between projects. etc. Because without support, people become islands as it were (and you wouldn't believe how many projects I've seen that disappeared in short order b/c people tried to do things alone).

Take that however you want. But, I've been here a long time and that's how things tend to work around here. And given the success of this community, it's hard to argue with.

I understand, and I agreed. What I meant when I said "it doesn't matter who gets it done" was, I wasn't looking for some personal achievement, and I wasn't trying to copy someone's idea. I don't care who gets anything done, as long as it gets done.

And I wasn't trying to be offensive with that post at all, so don't come down on me with "I forgave you and you come back with that?"

Cause there was nothing to forgive; it was a mistake and I explained that. Just cool your jets.

And the preaching thing, please. I understand the importance of teamwork completely. If you read what I posted on that site, you'd realize that. I wasn't trying to work alone, and I don't think anyone could do anything alone. So just forget about it and I'll join whatever is being done.

I'd take it as a kindness RiverRD if you'd post some of your ideas on the Orgaise the revolution thread. The more ideas the better and it looks like you're willing to jump in and work and that can't mean anything but good for all of us.
