Favorite 'put them in their place' sayings:

Wash to Zoe: “No, what this marriage needs is one less husband.” (Warstories)

Mal to Jayne: “Jayne. You'll keep a civil tongue in that mouth or I will sew it shut, is there an understanding between us? Walk away from this table. Right now” (Serenity)

Kaylee to Simon: “And if that's what you think of this life, then you can't think much of them that choose it, can you.” (Safe)

JAYNE: “Well... I don't like the idea of someone hearin' what I'm thinkin'.”
INARA: “No one likes the idea of hearing what you're thinking.” (OIS)

BOOK to Jayne: “I don't give half a hump if you're innocent or not. So where does that put you?” (ok, so he doesn’t really say this, but he’s thinking it, and what would Jayne have come back with anyway?) (OIS)

Inara to Mal: I wouldn’t say I’m completely ok, I am appalled at her taste. (Heart of Gold)

River to Badger: Call me if anyone interesting shows up. (Shindig)

Jayne to Simon: That's what space trash does, you know. Kind of latches onto the first big something that stops long enough. Hey now, that'd be a bit like you and your sister now, wouldn't it? (Bushwacked)

River to Jayne: “He looks better in red.” (Ariel)

Simon’s entire speech to Jayne on the table in Trash.

Best failed attempt to put in place:
Jayne to Mal: “Sure you don't just wanna piss yourself and back down like you did with Badger?” (Serenity)

Least favorite attempt to put in place:
Anytime Mal calls Inara a whore.

I only fell is all.

The whole. .

"Jayne, your mouth is talkin'. . .you might wanna look to that."

I use that alot with young soldiers under my command.

I'm also fond of the whole "Walk away from this table. Right now."

The best part of that scene is the look on Mal's face when Jayne says, "You don't pay me to talk pretty. . ." Mal's expression gets this whole, "Oh, no, you didn't just argue with me." thing going on. Mahealani says that I wear a similar expression in similar circumstances.

"Wash. . .we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Mal (to bandit): "Now think real hard. You been bird-dogging this township a while now. They wouldn't mind a corpse of you. Now you can luxuriate in a nice jail cell, but if your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty flowered bonnet, I will end you." (Our Mrs Reynolds)

Along the lines of "Your mouth is talkin'..."

Mal to Jayne: "Why you arguin' what's been decided?" (Jaynestown)

Hands down best 'put them in their place' ever:

Simon to the doctor on Ariel after he's saved the patient from the kid's idiocy.

"Your patient should be dead."

The look of disgust on Simon's face and just the way he pushes the stethoscope back at the other doctor, priceless.
