I’ve been searching for 2 months and I still find new sites. I’ll bet I’m not the only one.

Sooo...
What are your favorite Firefly related sites? Why?

Here are mine?

OVERALL:
Fireflyfans.net
good overview.

http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/HomePage
chock full of Firefly facts

POLLS:
http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6517155.stm
Probably would give Firefly fans the most credibility, If we won. (which we could easily do we're only 1.5 % points behind).

http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/index.html
The pollster does a great job of whipping up enthusiasm by celebrating new records

http://digg.com/television/Firefly_Fans_Seek_Revival_of_Series
Hey, it’s a fun site for other stuff, too.

FANFICTION:
http://www.stillflying.net/
Good scripts. I can almost pretend the show goes on.

PODCASTS:
http://fireflytalk.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=196514
What a professional show!

There’s more of course but I don’t want to make the post too long.

Okay, please give me some other great ones. Thanks for your help.

One of my favorites is

http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/start

it is the original Old fox board, its not for everyone it takes some practice to get used to navigation and its the oldest browncoat community out there, my first home and where the fight to save us began. Chris B., Nathan F., Adam B., occassionally Jewel S., Mark S., Greg E. (the composer), and several others whose names escape me currently post there. Respect and politeness for all your fellow browncoats is an absolute must, aka dont go in looking to rock the boat or inspire the masses.

www.serenitymovie.org, this community largely moved there once www.serenitymovie.com simplified, there is a fantastic chat function there and lots of wacky fun

76thbattalion.homestead.com/index.html come here and join the quickly growing uniformed battalion of browncoat soldiers, our inaugural march happens this year at DragonCon

http://still-flying.net/images/ this is an incredible collection of screencaps and a artfully laid out site

www.fashionablybrown.com is a great place to find serenity swag and even costume help

www.serenitystuff.com is another great place to read up on all the available firefly and serenity goodies, buying the official goodies is an excellent way to support our show and get more goodies

and of course I have to share www.houstonbrowncoats.com my local browncoat chapter and I daresay shindig capital of the world, we have had 3 shindigs already this month and another 3-4 in the works (and thats just this month)

Artcat has covered the biggies. I like serenitymovie.org. Lots of cross posters between fff.net and there; that is also a place to go when this site has "issues."

A few other favorites of mine:

http://www.poplollies.com/browncoats/index.htm
The folks at poplollies are bigtime Browncoats, and set aside a portion of their online shop for Whedon like fun.

http://craftster.org/
If you are into being crafty (knitting/sewing/whathaveyou) you should check these threads. There are many Browncoats who post here (Hi Sabri3l!) and there are some great Firefly craft swaps that happen, and also a great thread on making Jayne hats.

For screen caps, I like http://www.craftymonkie.com/firefly/ They have a good collection, though still-flyin is a skooch better.

http://blackmarketbeagles.com/ has a very nifty collection of swag, too.

There are also Browncoat areas on sites like
Skiffy (scifi.com)and gateworld.net.

Artcat,
I actually clapped when I saw that site. I can't wait for more.

I wanted to add a timeline that would be useful for fanfic writers and people who just want to keep dates straight.

Here is another one. This has the River Tam sessions on it. I was over a month into searchs when I found this one. If you haven't yet seen the River Tam stuff, do it right now!

http://www.revolutionsf.com/article.html?id=2799

This can be found at fashionablybrown that Artcat recommended but it deserves its own link.

Also, the unfilmed script,DEAD OR ALIVE, which was (as I understand it) deemed not satisfactory by Whedon and has a similar theme as the Message is at

http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45
Its worth a read, too.

My favorites of course are fff.net and www.serenitymovie.org. Gossi runs a fun site. Besides the usual threads there are teams that have banded together in a common Firefly/Serenity interest.

If you like Firefly/Serenity fanfic these sites are good: www.fanfiction.net and www.livejournal.com.

At livejournal here are some of the groups. There are many many more.

http://community.livejournal.com/ff_fanfic/

http://community.livejournal.com/ff_friday/

and if you are a Mal/Inara shipper here is a treasure trove;

Here are some more that I don't think have been listed. I went back and read thru the list.

The fan made series...Into the Black-- they just recently released their first look film, check it out on their site.

http://www.intotheblack.ca/

TheOneTrueBix has a blog like site with news about Mia the character in the next movie that Joss is working on, called Goners. Here it is:

The site for the Browncoat Cruise:

http://www.browncoatcruise.com/

Two convention sites:

While we're on the subject of fanfic, can somebody fill me in on the terminology. Like, what is a Mal/Inara shipper? (Does it mean something like one who likes to see the Mal/Inara pairing?)

What is slash?

Any other ones I should know?

I've been kinda surprised (okay, horrified) when I ran across some unexpected pairings! Everyone's entitled to their particular pleasure, I just want to stay away from any too unusual groupings--- so any help to understand the terminology would be great.

Yep. Shipper fic is fanfic that has a focus on a specific intercharater relationship. Some pairing are cannon (ie: seen on the show or in the movie) such as Mal/Inara or Simon/Kaylee and some are not. Shipper fic is usually a romantic pairing.

Slash is fic revolving around a same sex sexual relationship such as Mal/Simon or Inara/Zoe. Most pairing in this catagory are non-cannon, but not all and most slash pairing seem to be male pairs.

I've heard the term 'friendship fic' which is used to denote a fic that explores a non-sexual relationship between two characters.

There's also crossover fic. This is fic that usually uses two different fandoms in a single story, usually by having one or more characters crossover to the universe of the other one. the most common ones for this for Firefly are ones crossing with the Buffy universe. There's a good site for Buffy crossovers that has it's own Firefly catagory at: http://www.tthfanfic.com/Category-1-29/Firefly.htm

Ah...that would be the non-cannon poairings I spoke of above. Most stories will tell you in the synopsis what pairings there are. And remember, if you find one you don't like, you don't have to finish it. Much better than school, eh?

BTW--nice to meet ya, redhead! Welcome to the board!

Thanks, by now I had pretty much sussed out some of those but I sure would have saved myself an "oh, my" moment or two if I had understood them earlier. And now I'll probably be spared a few more "oh, my" moments thanks to you.

BTW, your explanation was extremely lucid and informative

Glad I was of some help, redhead. Sorry I was so tardy, but I've been kinda MIA for awhile.

And I quite understand the 'oh my' moments. I discovered all of what I posted the hard way. When I was considerably younger I'd gone to my first convention where I could find/buy 'zines (fanzines...this was the original form for fan fiction since the web wasn't around) and discovered that the fanfic for a show I like was about 97% slash. I was floored, and very quietly escaped from the discussion. It just ain't my cuppa.

Welcome again! If you want to read a few good authors here, check out Kaynara, ManiacGiraffe and EmmaRigby.

Redhead,
Welcome, welcome. I'm sure FollowMal will return with your virtual Browncoat if you don't have one already.

Here are a few more terms and authors of fanfic;

AU-alternate universe Sometimes it's way out there or just something not covered in the BDS/BDM.

OC-other character- sometimes you need to introduce a main character that wasn't in the series or movie.

IMHO Jane0904 is the master here. Her fics follow the crew after the BDM but she's introduced two OC's. Hank and Freya, that really have moved her stories along.

Hank is the new pilot and Freya is Mal's wife and mother of his son. Freya is a complicated character and makes a good triangle with Inara.

Some other good authors are Jetflair,TamSibling, Amodobell, Jaynesgoodgirl and ScrewtheAlliance.

Jetflair is writing an excellent series about Mal's experiences in the Alliance POW camp after Serenity Valley, "The Losing Side". She has a lot of insight into Mal and it helps to explain why he is so full of contradictions later in the BDS and BDM.

TamSibling of course concentrates on Simon/Kaylee but her stories contain all the crew. BTW she posted a Mal/Inara 3 parter called Dancin' that just blew me away.

ScrewtheAlliance has posted several complete serialized "novels" here and is in the middle of another. Unfortunatly, (or fortunately?), he's writing a book for $ so his posts have been infrequent lately, but it's well worth the wait.

MMM, Now I have a whole new group of writers to look for. I've already discovered a few both of you mentioned but not all of either one of your lists. This is going to add to my reads.

(I've been restricting myself--I only allow myself to go read one of Stillflying.net scripts every other day in order to make the 'verse last as long as possible. Now maybe I can read more fanfic to fill in the gaps--alas my novel will never get written.)

I want to add Merrywyn is a pleasure also.
