A bright spot in the world of limited releases was Fox Searchlight's "Waitress," which added 61 locales to bring the count to 65, and grossed $656,988, raising the cume to $808,932. The film, which follows a baker who's missing the perfect recipe for love, was directed by Adrienne Shelly and stars Keri Russell, Andy Griffith, Cheryl Hines and Nathan Fillion.

My sister told me they had a positive review of Waitress on the TODAY show this morning.
Then I logged onto Yahoo and found that "Waitress Movie" was the #3 most popular search.
This all bodes very well for the little movie that could.

Nor me, but we've got two good local indie theaters in Tally so I'm not giving up yet. Plus, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 90%, I don't see how more theaters couldn't pick it up.

Theres still a chance then! Look at little miss sunshine. That started out with a really limited release and caught on like crazy! In the end it had a short run in the big megaplex first-run theaters, won an academy award and was a huge dvd release. Just wait, with the reviews waitress is getting this time next year our captain will be a big star and waitress will have been the surprise hit of 2007.

It could happen, right?

Hold tight folks -- you might see Waitress yet.
Just spoke to our local art house theater. They had a Mothers Day showing last Sunday. But they won't have regular showings until May 25th.
Seems like it's taking FOREVER for it to be wide released.

Whoever is distrubting (F*x?) probably didn't expect it to get such good reviews. May take awhile, but wide release is coming.

DONCOAT

I don't know if it means anything, but there was a lengthy blurb for Waitress on the Fox Movie Channel the other day (in a block of other promos for Fox releases).

It had several clips from the movie (two featuring our Cap prominently) plus reviewers' comments and some other information.

Would Fox have bothered to do this if they weren't planning to expand the release beyond 65 theaters?

Only two theaters have it between Boston and NYC, neither close to me... Maybe I should buy a ticket online and not go.

I'm pointin' right at it!

DonCoat,

gossi (WhoisRiver) thinks Waitress is having a staggered release and may hit 1000 theaters. So maybe more theaters this weekend or May 25th weekend.

Not near me yet either. The one that was an hour away on Mother's Day ONLY sold out and I couldn't go. I'm hoping it will be back there on the 25th. Looked like a cute theater. OR MAYBE EVEN CLOSER.

DonCoat,
That's an excellent idea! I live in the boon toolies as they say and it's possible it won't come close enough. If it doesn't I'll buy a ticket and at least I will have contributed.

And in the meantime....

I'm going to call one of the theaters here in town and ask them if they're going to get it and if they say no or that they are unsure I will encourage them to look into it. I suggest every browncoat who wants to see this movie do the same.
