Forgive me if this is buried somewhere deep in a thread, but...for those planning on purchasing, should we try to preorder this on the same day and see if we can push it up high on Amazon? Maybe on Joss' birthday or something? Even if it has no real effect on marketing or sales, it would be fun to see the effect of our little group all at once. :-)

It was my assumption that we were purchasing from the Universal site directly.

Am I wrong?

I can see both ways...putting a blip on Universal's data screen, or pushing it up on Amazon so it appears on the front page of the DVD page and hits a wider audience than Universal. Both ideas are good, though, and in both cases picking a day would likely benefit us. Can't see a situation in which a show of force would be worse than staggered buying.

I don't know how long we'll stay on Amazon's radar. They update their bestsellers every day, and if we buy on one day, we might slip off the next.

But Universal will at least have immediate verification that we're interested.

Wasn't there another thread on this?

Won't a purchase through Amazon help fund this website, though?
That's not a rhetorical question either. I really am trying to decide how to buy mine. Would like to help the site if I can.

Yes it will, so I intend to do both.

Kaele's right...
There is a plan being discussed by the guerrilla marketing teams to buy from Uni and buy on a certain day. There will be more information after a discussion between us all. This happens soon, so I hope info will be forthcoming soon.

It needs to get Universal's attention and it needs to have sustained sales.

Coming from someone who was involved in the DVD day last year on Joss' birthday, there are pros and cons to both options.

I'd rather see Universal's servers jammed up and bandwidth exceeded before we head off to places like Amazon. If their bandwidth is so maxed that no other movie could be purchased that day, I think it'd make an impression.

What I'd suggest saying to people is something along the lines of this:

"Please visit the Universal website first to purchase your SE DVD. If you are unable to make your purchase there, then please help support websites like FFF.net and Serenitymovie.org by purchasing the SE DVD through their homepages."

It's essentially what I told everyone last year and seemed to work fairly well. I am aware that Universal's purchase link was unavailable for a few hours due to traffic and Amazon was telling people that some of the DVDs were on backorder so there'd be a delay in shipping.

Knowing how much of business is done today, I highly doubt that the production end of Universal is closely connected to their online DVD sales end anyway. Rather, it's most likely a smaller company they contracted out to handle their DVD sales. So in a way, it really doesn't make that much of a difference except the fact that certain websites would make a commission on sales.

Good suggestion, Kaele. Thank you.

You guys were very successful with your Serenity Day campaign last year, so I appreciate your input.

I preordered one directly from Universal. I think Universal is getting a feel of how many die-hard Serenity fans there are out here from that. Hopefully, it is more than 10.

If I remember correctly, all pre-orders everywhere get counted in the first day sales. Then there are individual counters for each seller.

I plan on buying some off the store shelves. that Tuesday. I'm hoping some of the stores will allow pre-ordering to the store...so they set aside some shelf space. I know FYE does pre-orders.

I think Serenity DVD was the top DVD sold on it's Tuesday, but it wasn't the top selling DVD for the week. I guess it will depend on what else comes out Tuesday and how many total we buy and how many everybody else buys of whatever comes out. Remebmer Christmas presents!

The action-packed adventure Serenity continues with the fully loaded Special Collector's Edition! With over 60
minutes of all-new bonus features and never-before-seen footage, this must-own set takes you deeper into the
incredible worlds created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly). It's an exclusive,
edge-of-your-seat experience that can't be missed.

Universal just let us pre-order a sequel. Nathan Fillion has 27354 friends. 27354 x $1,463 = 40 million. Whoa, that is too expensive. Nathan needs more friends.
