eHugs, sweetheart.

Should you decide to run away take an extended vacation with neither prior notice nor a disclosed end date, you are welcome to share my rockstar suite.

Here's all the rockstar-livin' fun you're missing!
Well, all the non-x-rated fun I can share on a "family" forum.
Note me with all my friends! ^^

Yes, this is how I roll, dawg:

Things got a little out of hand; porn comics everywhere:

Then I got Beary all liquored up and convinced him to finish knitting my scarf (ha ha, suckerrrr!):

holy crap, i am such a dork

(Note: the bottle with the white label is "Prima Feinsprit," and states "For tasting purposes only." I acquired this bottle from the highest shelf in my first company's R&D lab while cleaning the place out... *snikker*... the Plant Manager at the time swears that it was for testing medical devices... heeheehee...)

Were I to "take an extended vacation", I know exactly whose (sorry I have to say this) REALLY BUTT UGLY HOTEL COUCH I'd be staying on.

And yeah, you know all about that "lots of stress in a little time", right, HK?

((HUG)) You rock in so many ways, missy-kins.

Nice fishnets! I have a pair like that too, but they were my Mom's and you need a garter belt... never mind.

Holy... dear guh... *snort!* now that you mention it, that couch IS hideous. Ugh... I must have been immediately erasing its image from my mind every time I look at it... blehhh.......

Anyhoo!, I'd never make you stay on the couch!
I'd just switch to a 2 bedroom suite so you could have your own rockstar bed. ^^

Speaking of which, a lovely someone made the bed for me this morning, so I must mess it up and throw the pillows around now. Can't have this place looking proper, now can we.

And, on the upside, you get to close your eyes and not see that couch!

CALIFORNIAKAYLEE

Woohoo! Dr. Well Intentioned called with my test results! *happy dance* Thyroid numbers were almost exactly what I predicted they'd be (slightly higher than they should be), and I managed to talk Dr. WI into giving me a prescription for stronger thyroid meds. Actually kinda proud of myself for that one, hee. Now I can officially fire him and sign up with the Internist-Immunologist. I feel kinda bad, he's such a nice guy. But I've given him two years, and other than ruling a bunch of stuff out, we aren't any closer to a diagnosis. Sigh.

Quote:

I know a few companies working on minimally invasive devices (i.e., out-patient procedures) to correct MVR, and we're working with a small company in California on it, too. ^^ The stuff I've seen so far is way awesome.

Hmm, I might have to read up on some of that. Up till now, my only real concern about the MVR has been that either no doctor caught it before, or it developed sometime in the past three years. I've also developed some annoying sternum pain in the past year (Dr. WI says costochondritis, but was utterly unconcerned), and it turns out that both MVR and costochondritis are sometimes caused by autoimmune activity. So... I have Polyglandular Autoimmune Syndrome, and what seems to be a third but thus-far undiagnosed autoimmune disease, and new MVR and sternum inflammation? And my doctor isn't concerned by that? (Oh, and just the word "percutaneous" is damn cool, heheh. The procedure itself sounds like science fiction. )

Quote:

Aw, I didn't need any more proof of that, sweetie....
Aww, thanks darlin! The "scientific proof" thing comes from a joke that both my father and my husband made in the days before my first MRI, and then again before my EKG. Something along the lines of "But what will they do when they turn on the machines and find that you have no heart/brain?" -_- Yes, it's true, I married a guy just like my dad. The downside is that they make the same dumb jokes. The upside is that hubby actually likes visiting my parents, hehe.

Quote:

Well, I can't tell you enough how great the Mayo Clinic is.
All the reading I've done about the Mayo Clinic just makes me happy that someplace like that exists at all. If the Immunologist turns out to be not as schnazzy as I'm hoping, and/or if I go another couple of years without a diagnosis, I'm going to seriously consider trying to get an appointment there. (I suppose I would have to go to the one in Minnesota, rather than Arizona, if I wanted you to visit me? )

Quote:

I work for a wee medical device company. We have taught our stuff, along with revolutionary procedures, to a number of Docs at Mayo, though. ^^
A small company, or a company making small medical devices? ^_^ Btw, have I told you that in the early 90s, my dad did some UI work for MRI and CT scan machines? He also worked on the UI for something that was called "the wand", I think -- basically a handheld MRI the size of a scalpel, that could be used to get new images during brain surgery. He was a pre-med major before I was born, but switched to computer science later, and the company who hired him was looking for a UI programmer who could design with brain surgeons in mind. He actually got to observe the wand being used during brain surgery, and still talks about it as one of the coolest moments of his professional career, hehe.

He went with me to my first CT scan (I was suppose to have an MRI that time, but he told me that the images from an MRI are formed by a giant magnet flipping all your hydrogen atoms and recording how long they spin -- that totally freaked me out, so I asked if we could do a CT instead of an MRI), and talked the doctor into letting him take a look at the image machine. He said they were using what looked to be the next generation of the UI he designed, hehe.

Oh, and I agree with Mavs: that couch is godawful. The corset looks nice though.

(Wow my posts are long today. Sorry about that guys!)

CK, glad to hear you got some resolution. I agree- after 2 years you really should have a diagnosis. No matter how nice he is, it is time to seek someone else.

I think coffee is ready. I'll be back!

Morning Mavs, Hobbleit and others!

so did anyone else catch the wierdness from here last night?

I wrote a response and hit the post button and when I did my IE just kept launching window after window. At one point I counted 30 open, all here. Once I finally got them to stop (clicked them closed faster than they could pop) the site seemed to be down.

I popped in last night just after it happened. I saw Rose's mention in the tags that something had happened but I didn't know what it was.

30 windows? That sounds more virusey on your end than fff.net acting wonky - but the site apparently had issued last night. I was on after 9 PM.

Well Penguin HK is becoming my Idol so I am trying to be just like her. I know how well she is capable of breaking threads so I figured I would do the same. Had no idea that I could break the whole site in the process!

I just found out school in Maryland is in session until June 14th. I thought it was out June 8th. Carson has already decided he'll be "making up his own homework" over the summer. He loooves homework!

Okay, how many other geek-in-the-making traits does the poor boy have? Well, he's a miniture Browncoat for another. What else?

As a small child, Jonny Quest, Batman and the Twilight Zone were three of my all time favorite programs and I started collecting comic books at eight. I would have started sooner if I'd known they existed.

There's our Jimi. *hug* Ooh. And he brought chocolate. Yep. You're a keeper.

Jonny, Carson's intellect is a little worrisome, actually. He is 6 years old, and keenly interested in the upcoming political elections. He wants me to explain to him the differences between Republicans and Democrats. He wants to know why Daddy doesn't like Hillary Clinton. (Husband told him it was her cankles. I smacked him for that.)

We have discussed accelerated learning programs for him, but his teacher, and other TAG (Talented and Gifted) coordinators insist we wait until he asks for more - that that would be the sign he is bored in school.

For poop's sake - he's already memorizing the multiplication table. And he's 6!

I, on the other hand, am 39 and have problems calculating how much a 20% off sale will get me...

I bought Husband the metal detector he's always wanted for his birthday. It was Carson who was over the moon with it, and studied the instruction manual for over an hour last night!

Well the smell ain't too rockstarish now is it Mavs.

At the doc? I'd fall asleep and get better before the SOB would have time to see me. Thanks for the vote of confidence in the previous thread MSG. Seems the mailorder husband thing sounds nice but I'm quickly realizing why I'm not married yet.

Seems I expect waaaaay more than a fella should from any woman in her right mind, (aside from the fact I can't quite find a right minded woman). Seems yesterday was a very good day off. I got to start a steady happy drunk around five and carried it 'til about 2300. Just get to feelin' like a surrogate SO and sick of it. I know I said I needed a break from GND but it didn't happen. But it has to or I'll... I really don't know what'll happen. All I know is I have been destructive to our field and my beloved Ginny and those are things I cherish to no end. I can't seem to beat this growling creature inside and it seems to keep trying to get out and take me over again. I don't want it anymore. Hell, I never wanted it in the first gorram place. It just seems the things and people who quell that growling are fleeting giving me the idea that there will never be any hope of ridding the creature from my being.

This is my heart. And though it is bitter, it is mine.

Hee, thanks... but, I think you missed the part where I said those were pictures of me and all my friends. XD
And Beary now refuses to finish knitting my scarf.

I have a similar pic of me, but cannot post it while at work *considers opening an imageshack or flikr account*. It is me with my only friend (Code Red Mountain Dew) showing off my recent re-shaving of the head.

Think what you will, but I disagree with this statement. I know I for one have had a crush on you for some time (what's not to like, you're an engineer, a nerd/geek, sarcastic, pretty damn cute, and emotionless, all qualities I am fond of). I also know I am not the only one.

Morning all!

Hey there's a good ponderable. What were your earliest warning signs of future geekness or nerd-dom?
One of my earliest memories is of my parents getting the house ready to have friends over for a D&D night. I must have been pretty young, because I couldn't quite see over the table, but if I held onto the edge I could see all the dice and miniatures right at eye level. I sooo wanted to play. (I've always said that I'm a gamer because my mom was a gamer when I was very young.) As a kindergartener, I remember playing Star Wars with the other neighborhood kids (this would have been in '86 or so), and the first book I ever read on my own was a lengthy fantasy novel that scared the bejesus out of my teacher. So I think I've been a geek more or less since I could walk -- and not much has changed since then, hehe.

My parents finally let me join the grown-up D&D game when I was 12. And to carry on that tradition, when each of my younger siblings turned 12, I bought them their own set of dice in their favorite colors, complete with a unique dice box or bag, and I've painted a miniature for each of my family members at one point or another. These days we have a family D&D game every Christmas, usually bookended by a marathon viewing of the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings movies. Now, if I can just get my mom to play World of Warcraft with me...

Mavs, I would suggest keeping an eye out for other signs of boredom, too (drawing in class, bringing books to school to read when he's done with his classwork, etc). IMO, if he's making up homework for the summer, he is basically asking for more. It sounds like he is still in love with learning, and I know for a lot of TAG kids, that love can quickly turn into hatred for school (ie, "it's a gigantic waste of time"), if new learning isn't served up fast enough and consistently enough. Maybe frequent trips to the library/bookstore to supplement his school activities?

Just videogames. Pacman influenced my whole life apparently. Sucked me in and spit out a computer nerd. I was helpless to stop it. The point of no return was when I learned pascal . From then on I was glued to a keyboard.

Zeek, in my mind you've always had this ageless quality about you...until now! Learned Pascal? *snort!* Yep...no doubt about it. You're as old, if not older than me!

You underestimate the outdated courses in high schools. Plus that was the last year the course was taught with pascal. We went to C++ the next year and I convinced my councilor to let me retake the exact same course the next year. Now that was fun lemme tell ya. The teacher already knew I was on top of things. So, he pretty much let me do my own thing during lecture except when the class was stumped and no one could answer one of his questions. Then he'd call on me even though I wasn't paying attention...still I'd nail the answer. Did I mention I don't mind bragging?

Anyway I'm not too old.
