If the unthinkable ever happens and we don’t get a Big Damn Trilogy or the series never takes flight again (blasphemy, I know) in which format would you most like to see the verse continue?

1) Comic book miniseries like “Those Left Behind” & “Better Days”
2) Script format like the Visual Companions & Virtual Firefly (Still Flying)
3) Novel format
4) Another format (please explain the format and why you have chose it)

I think I’d have to go for #2. The script format allows for more character interaction than the comics whilst also offering the option of having drawings / sketches. It also allows the writer to introduce their episode / film / story and make any side notes explaining certain aspects of their e/f/s.
As a bonus after each story some of the crew could write a short analysis of the e/f/s (a bit like Jewel did in Finding Serenity) or explain how they would have played out certain scenes. It’s not as good as the return (that will happen) but as a fall back I think it would be great.

What would you all prefer & why?

P.S. – Another added bonus could be each issue could come with a small book or couple of pages detailing each of the BDH’s and smaller DH’s past (I must know about Book and Inara)

Hey as long as i get something i'll be happy

A novel or comic will be shiny, but what i want to happen is....... Firefly as a traveling show
It'll be great, get Joss and the crew and have them travel around and put Firefly on as a traveling show. It could work.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'm with Blindoutlaw, I would be happy with any continuation of the story if it was done by Joss or at least approved by Joss so it was considered canon.

If I had a choice, I would prefer novels as I love to read and to me full length novels, or a series of such, would be the perfect fit for the story.

I'm the same as Blindoutlaw, I'd be extremely if we got anything but I was just wondering what people would prefer if we were ever given a choice.

It would be interesting to hear how the traveling firefly would work. Sounds like a right laugh,

MrSV

EDIT: What type of animation did you have in mind DONCOAT? Can you give a current series as an example?

Out of the options you give, and currently lacking an idea of my own, I'd say 2) Script format.

Though, really, almost anything but 3)!!

Novel format would be the most limiting in terms of character interpretation for the reader, and has the greatest dangers of putting people off in plot-UNrelated things like narration style. It's the medium furthest away from Joss's way of story-telling, so that ought to be avoided.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I'd really like to see novels, or novellas, written by Joss and/or other writers of Firefly eps. I don't really care to read script format. I know it's great for filming, but it's really not interesting to read a script I haven't seen performed. Even when I've seen it performed it can fall flat (although it gave me an immense appreciation for how much interpreting work an actor needs to do) I prefer true books. Comics are okay, but you just can't put in all the details, despite it being a visual medium, because of size restrictions. But if Joss and Co. were to write short novels, something very akin to script only in a novel format and with a few more details of setting added, that would be perfection. Even though I know comics are much more likely, as it's Joss. I can dream, right?

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Don't know what Don's answer would be, but I would have thought along the lines of Samurai Jack, but darker. It's tempting just to say anime style, but I just don't see it capturing the essence of Firefly.

How about Firefly: The Musical

SWOLTE

Just watched the last of the series yesterday and I still can't believe the show ended. Came here to 'fill the void', as someone put it. Am a fan now!

A large part of my enjoyment of the show were the actors, cinematography, and music. It wasn't so much the story, as in SOME of the series I found that the story could have been had more depth. Therefore I think its hard to capture the feel in writing (though not impossible).

Perhaps as an audio show (with voice overs and a nice narrator) that I can put on my iPod and listen to when going to work.

(Love the site and thanks so much for keeping FF alive! I wish I knew about this earlier).

Novels would be my preference. I'm always one to kick back with a good read when I've got a sec, and you can make a novel last longer than a TV episode. However, only one string I'd like to attach: Joss & co., and ONLY Joss & co. should be allowed to write novels. Let none of them so-called professional sci-fi writers near our 'verse, lest they put it through the woodchipper same as the Galaxy Far, Far Away. I mean, who wants to read about outposted Alliance soldiers welcoming the blue glove guys into their rustic little homes with tea and crumpets on the table, while Wash develops a mean streak and Mal and Inara get along all of a sudden? It's Browncoat territory, ain't any profic writers worth havin'.
