There are four showings of Waitress tonight at the Miracle 5 theater in Tallahassee, Fl and I'm going to the 9:30 show with my girlfriend! Its opening night for much of the country, are you going out to support our captain?

Nope, there are 1000 showings of Pirates here (nothing against it) BUT, they could show (1 out of 12 screens) Waitress on 1 !!!! Here in fabulous Cleveland Tennessee!

According to imdb.com, closest to Cleveland Tennessee is
Carmike Bijou 7
(Carmike) 215 Broad St, Chattanooga, TN 37402, 423-265-5308

But remember imdb.com only shows theaters that list on Fandango. So there could be more.

Waitress (Fox Searchlight) / 510 theaters 5/25/07

I'm hoping to go to one of these arrows over the weekend. Hour away. But worth it to see Nathan (Our Captain) Fillion on the Big Darn Screen.

Take anybody to the movie that you would want to watch Firelfy/Serenity. Then "You want to see another movie with that actor who played the doctor in Waitress". There's a charity screening in June 2007 that we could go to. http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/

Well it wasn't packed but it definitely wasn't empty either, a pretty good sized crowd. I don't think it'd be a bad movie to take a girl to MrShinyverse but I wouldn't consider it a date movie or a romantic comedy (which is what I thought it would be like going in). Stoweaway, wine and cheesecake? Wow. I just went with the good old fashioned popcorn and cherry coke.

My girlfriend, who has seen firefly and slither and all that for the first time turned to me during the film and said, "I liiike him." I replied, "yea, hes cool," doubletaked and then said, "oooh, like that!" And oh yea, is Keri Russel really really small or did I just never realize that Nathan is a BIG man! Not fat or anything but just tall and porpotioned....largely!

Anyway, as for what I really thought of the film,

Select to view spoiler:

I thought it was really very good and can definitely see why they originally put it out on mothers day. However, I was a little disappointed with the end and how Jenna ended up treating Jim. But then again, maybe its just because I went in there rooting for Fillion. Besides that I thought it was really funny and Andy Griffin was fantastic, even if him leaving the money was a bit predictable. In fact, if it weren't for that I'd probably consider the movie a little man-hating with the way Jenna blew off Jim and how all she needed was her daughter and her best friends.

So...not the best movie ever, but very original and I'm sure it was a hell of a lot better than anyone of the big blockbusters playing down at the mall.

Saw Waitress this afternoon in Raleigh (really Durham) at the Southpoint Cinema.

The stadium theater was about half full, about half and half men and women and the average age looked to be 30+.

I absolutely loved the film and I was a bit weepy at the ending, but Nathan put in a fantastic performance. Goofy, bumbling and sweet at the same time.

Saw it Saturday afternoon, in a smallish theater, about 250 seats, about 1/3 full. Way bigger crowd than the crowds when I saw the BDM, or HitchHiker's Guide, or even Prairie Home Companion, all Saturday afternoons, so that's a REAL good sign. Mostly older auudience, lots of little old ladies. Took my wife and daughter, age 23. W

We all loved it, loved Keri Russel's performance, loved Nathan. He's playing it a little bit " clueless Mal Reynolds who doesn't get women", but we like that.

Funny parts VERY funny, a lot of serious drama. A very entertaining movie, and at the same time, a very nice piece of art.

I can see why the folks at Sundance picked it, and it restores my faith in their judgement.

Saw it last night with the Charlotte Browncoats. Our theater was packed with little old ladies too. They were there to see Andy Griffith. And he did not disappoint! His part was brilliant IMHO.
I guess I went into this thinking Nathan was the co-star of the movie. So I was a little disappointed to find him as a supporting character. He did a magnificent job, of course. I just wish the part had been meatier -- but that's just the Browncoat in me.
I have never been a fan of Keri Russell but this movie might change my mind. I'm still processing it -- lots of heavy topics to digest -- so the verdict's still out.
Never thought I'd laugh at things like abusive husbands and infidelity. Adrienne Shelley made a perfectly watchable message about some heavy issues.
It was definitely worth the wait.

I just saw it last night, and I really loved it. Pies and Fillion, what could go wrong. Sure the husband, well you were sort of hit over the head with how bad he was, but still. I think the way it ended... well, I liked it. I like selfish movies where it focuses on one character and how she lives... and I think Fillion's character was... well, yeah, a bit lacking in meat, but only because talking about his backstory and such would... well, ruin his relationship with the main character, if you know what I mean.

According to this article, Waitress has jumped from 12th place to 5th place since last weekend and it earned $3.1 million since Friday. That's not per screen figures, that's overall earnings.
They say there will be more complete numbers posted once the holiday weekend is over. Still, very promising.

One of the previews at the theater last night was the trailer for Death at a Funeral. I accidentally shrieked when Alan Tudyk showed up on-screen. I startled the little old ladies in front of me. LOL
And, of course, his part looks hilarious. I'm with you -- I'll be back to see Death at a Funeral later this summer.

I was so busy enjoying, I didn't think or analyze. Might be one of the few movies I HAFTA go see twice to really appreciate. We bought candy and stuff to munch on, and veryr touched any of it... My daughter said, " I can't wait 'till that's out on DVD." So they'll sell at least a couple, when it comes to that.

How about "I'm going to go deliver a baby. That's what I do." Also "I wish it was Friday."as he exits the office. Absolutely perfect delivery.

Edit: Got to add "If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to call me."

BTW I noticed that the diploma up above his head in the office scenes was a Duke diploma. I'm a UNC fan and we hate Duke with a passion but any mention of NC is great. Also, his office got neater and neater each time she visited.

Well, I saw "Waitress" and "Once" as planned. It was a great day.

"W" was serious and funny. Never having seen Keri Russel before either, I have to say she was on the delightful side. All of the new names for her pies were amusing and funny every time. Fillion was a total doctor. Total Simon anyone?

"Once" blew me away. I don't even want to get started on it. It was that good. If you're at all into good songs, for the sake of the songwriting, just see this movie.

CLJOHNSTON108,

That makes two possible nods to Firefly/Serenity.
A possible nod to Firefly/Serenity in Waitress?

Serenity: Mal says "This is what I do".

In Waitress Doctor says something like "I'm going to go deliver a baby. That's what I do." NCBROWNCOAT thanks for the quote.

Bad husband called "Early" sometimes. CLJOHNSTON108 posted about this.

Also, they ran the Hairspray trailer, and even though I recognized Zac Efron (Young Simon), I leaned over and whispered to my stepmom, "I will not be accompanying you to that one."
She whispered back, "Well, it was a very good Broadway show."

Speaking of which, did anybody ever see Morena's movie, Way Off Broadway?
Loved the trailer, so I've been looking for the DVD.

I wanted to go back and see Waitress again yesterday. This time I took my husband and he loved it too. So it's not just a movie for women.
In fact, we had a very interesting discussion afterward on the themes within the film. It was great to hear his point of view, as a man, on spousal abuse, infidelity and just trying to be happy in life.

Thats awesome! Way to go Shimi!!

So, I don't know if anyone else knows this because it hasn't been mentioned anywhere in the thread, although I have a feeling everyone does and just isn't talking about it. Anyway, I just found out so I'll share because there is likely someone in my shoes. The writer/director of the film was Adrienne Shelly (she also played Dawn in the film, the dorky waitress who married the poem guy) and she died last november while working on the movie. According to imdb, she was found by her husband hanging in their apartment in NYC and it was assumed a suicide until a construction worker confessed to killing her a week or so later. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else was in the dark on this one.

INDIGOSTARBLASTER

I got to see Waitress last night (my first time in a real movie theatre in over a year). It wasn't a perfect film, by any means, but it was funny and serious and sweet, and I found myself thinking about the nature of marriage and how people can change, and wondering about the backstories of all the characters and how they got into the situation we saw them in, late into the night.

Oh, and of course I loved every minute Nathan was on the screen :)

And, on a more serious note, I found myself raging at Adrienne Shelly's murderer, that a human being of so much less worth (I believe he killed her because she had given him a hard time about the construction noise -- the fact he would kill over such a thing tells me he isn't much of a man) could end a person with so much to say and such a thought-provoking way of saying it.
