I love that store.

The open bar is for the girls, hon. Seems to loosen them up quite a bit. Not saying the girls need 'em, but if they're wearing a pair of goggles it can't hurt our lovely Zeek much.

I only have an honorary geek card, but I'm also in need of sun. 'Tis bad I know. And I will look 80 when I'm 40, but the sun is glorious.

Okay, so I am a very bad person. Very bad. Co-worker brought in a bowl of fruit: cantalope, honey dew and red grapes. After a few hours I decide to partake...and picked out the cantalope and grapes, leaving the honey dew (which kinda mushy) for others. That's bad. Shame on me.

I didn't take ALL the grapes or 'lope. Just made sure my helping had no honey dew. So I'm only a teeny-tiny bad person.

I just feel so yucky on cloudy days. That Seasonal Affective Disorder, I think.

I use mega sunscreen when I leave the house. My face, neck and hands, especially.

Heh. Um, telling, I guess. I mean, I know I need it, I'm just a little bashful about it still.

After tracking all my health stuff for a couple of years now, I realized that I feel significantly better when I spend time in the sun. So I did some research, and it looks like Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to increased autoimmune activity. And I'm likely Vitamin D deficient, since I don't drink milk at all (cow or otherwise). Dr. Well Intentioned dismissed the Vitamin D thing out of hand (grrrr, I'm going to the webpage and switching my primary doctor right now) and told me to drink milk. Gee, thanks.

I'm being careful about it -- only 20-30 minutes of natural sun exposure, 2-3 times a week, if I'm going to be out longer than that, I put on sunscreen -- but if I have the choice between increase autoimmune activity right now (huge family and personal history of autoimmunity; making my life hell right now) or the risk of cancer later (zero family history; could make life hell later), I'm going to have to risk the cancer. On the bright side, I haven't burned since I was a kid.

My momma taught me that you don't get to pick out the things you like...like the marshmallows in the ambrosia salad (leaving behind the stinky pears, of course) or the cashews from the nut bowl (even if you can do it without touching the other inhabitants of the bowl) or the tomatoes in the salad. You take whatever the luck of the draw gives you.

(you can, however, pick and choose once it's on your plate...unless you're a guest...then you eat whatever it is you are served and you do so with a smile...or you may just have to sit at their dinner table until that spinach is gone. )

I see. When they shoved the cold porridge under the door of my wooden crate at feeding time, it was to dark to see what I picked from the bowl so I guess I never got that memo. Of course it was porridge though and through so there wasn't anything to pick out except the flies and their--ahem--offspring...

Is this like a Zeek Rule then? We should maybe glossarize (lexiconize?) that term like HK did with the Mandate.

Nope. It was momma-ingrained, not Rugbug imposed. Just like making your bed every morning. And that the best place to keep your pjs during the day is under your pillow (am I really the only one who does that? My old roomies thought I was a loon).

Teeheehee, I do that, too!

I have an exemption on that "picking cashews" out of the nuts, as I am allergic to pistachios, cashews and their ilk. But otherwise...Mom said "no picking" as well.

The only other "Maternal placed idea" like that is one I have been bucking against for years and can't shake.
My Gran ingrained into my Mom, who in turn told me that I can't wear red shoes.

To this day, I have no red shoes in my closet!

Kidding.

But really. Go crazy for a weekend and not pick up after yourself, clean a horse brush in the middle of the living room and not vacuum for a day, drop a scoop of ice cream--okay a spoonful, can't be wasteful about ice cream--on the bathroom tile/linoleum and leave it there not only until it melts but dries and hardens as well. IT WILL BE LIBERATING! The Whole GND thing might crack open and fall from you. Without hurting anyone or anything.!

Does the color red matter? Like can you wear oxblood color shoes?

I will admit to feeling that about certain kinds of shoes. Red heels = hooker. Red Mary Janes = little girl. I have had two pairs of red sneakers. I never felt like a hooker in those. I wonder why?

That NEVER happens. Well, once in a very, very long while. I even make my bed on horse show mornings when I get up at 4 and don't get home until 11 at night.

Believe me, I do plenty of other "not picking up" type things. Let's just say once, because I don't cook much, I went over three months without washing dishes. GND maybe. But not if that girl is Martha Stewart.

I have to give a big thank you to HK for reminding me that it ain't always about what people think, it's about what you think and feel.

I've had a problem with finding a size 16 sandal but now that I have them, I'm thinkin' about buying another pair or three.

Mavs is definately one to listen to, My mind has to be a little more straight before knowing what my actual feelings are, and despite its cancer giving qualities the sun is tolerable when it comes to a good shopping trip.

Gotta go. Wanna just hug everyone seein' as I have a three day weekend that starts early due to administration.

And I was ready to do sme actual work too.

Goodnight everyone and have a great weekend.

Funny thing about shame and self-consciousness, if you experience it often enough you build a tolerance to them, a toughening, a desensitization.

Not sad. Not silly. Like I was trying to tell RugBug, just do it. Borrow a pair if you don't want to buy them and indulge your fantasy. Just once. Try on the persona of what you think they represent. (Goes for bedspreads the same way, Bug...leave that butt print of yours in the middle of the sheets undisturbed until you come home at night. Just once. Jump up and down on the mattress because you know it's wrong!) You'll either find out that being a whore or a little girl isn't such a horrible notion, or the shoes don't make the man, er, woman. Red shoes on Mavs (said you had fishnets, too, yes?): sexy. Same shoes, different woman? Maybe not so sexy. The woman makes the shoe. (Of course there's the whole elf thing but I haven't sorted that out yet.)

I hope I said all that right. I have a terrible way with words sometimes. Bad admission for an aspiring writer.

Well have a good weekend everyone. Going into quasi-lurk mode until 5. Maybe I'll pop on during the holiday. If not, have a great weekend everyone.

I KNOW what you were trying to say, Jonny. But it ain't gonna happen. I would have a really, really hard time doing something if I thought it was wrong. And I prefer it that way. IMO, it's disingenious to believe one way and act another. I do my best to keep my actions in line with my beliefs.

If that keeps me in the realm of GND or the Good Girl, so be it.

Me personally wouldn't have you any other way. I don't mean "have" you, I mean want you. I don't mean I "want" you. I mean you are very wantable but...sigh. Point is I like your GND-ness. You were the one wishing (maybe) you weren't so squeaky clean. We'd love ya either way.

I know you knew. I knew you know. Whichever. Anyway, I'm just saying maybe your beliefs might limit your possibilities. What if it really isn't wrong to do these things? Maybe your beliefs could change. Experimentation doesn't make you disengenuous, it makes you curious, adventurous and suchlike. Don't get me wrong. I live as safe an existence as I can muster. But in my time I have been reckless, and stupidly and wrongly so. But I can look back and say at least I know that was wrong, instead of believing it might be.

Do dat make any sense a tall?

Sure, makes sense. But...I don't have to experience wrong for myself to know it's wrong. I can watch others and learn from THEIR experience. That way, I'm not a puppy chasing the its tail around and around. Why get dizzy when I can watch others get dizzy and learn there just isn't any point?

Does this remind anyone else of my "Killing someone you love" concept a while back? Doing something you know is wrong and don't want to do so that you know you could do it again if you ever absolutely needed to. Self mastery.

TRAVELER

Hello Hell"s Kitten and everybody.

By the time I get home Imponderables has 85 Posts and it is hard to catch up. So I usually hang back. But I almost got firsties this time.

Curse you Penguin.LOL

Anyway, I will never be to far away. I may pull over once in a while, but the Firefly highway beckons me and I will pop up and shake the tree and watch the apples fall.

I was doing just that when I heard about astronaut Wally Shirra and posted a thread about his death in the Headlines Discussion Forum.

I grew up watching our space program go from a large silver ball called Echo, it was so large you could see pass overhead at night, to watching the first Mercury flight that went straight up and down. It didn't even go into an orbit. They just wanted to know if it would work. Can you imagine sitting in something like that. The Wright Brothers all over again.

Hmm, I go away for 36 hours and all posting seems to stop. Nice to see that people have been kind to me and not left multiple threads to catch up on.

You may now resume posting.

Hey Traveler - it is so good to see you about here again - I rarely get on myownself these days - but when I do I miss you! How's life treating you?

I read James Mitchener's 'Space' a few years ago and loved it!! It is a novelisation of the history of the US space program...

I think it is amazing what humankind can do when it puts it's mind to it and we start working together with a common goal!

Nico!! Hey my "little Aussie hero brother" - sorry about that silly little post - I couldn't resisit!!

Hi Chris - welcome home! I hope you're home on regular leave and not on account of injury or anything negative...

How is everyone? I know it's a long weekend in the 'States... but some folk must be about!! I misses my FFF.net family when I cannot get on!

By the way - I have trouble with my concience over things I say to people... I don't believe I could ever deliberately hurt someone either with words, actions or physically harm them and not feel even worse than if it had been done to me... I know that some of you will find this hard to believe - but I try to live my life "doing unto others... " as it were, and if I do something that hurts them in any sense of the word it really haunts me... even when I know they provoked me! I am not a wimp - I just don't like feeling like I have been manipulated into reacting in a way that doesn't come naturally to me...

Now wanting to do it is entirely another thing...

WHITEFALL

Ok, well... whitefall here... I know, I know, I post rarely, but... I still loves ya all. So here's some random tidbits:

Sun - funny you should mention that, because i foolishly didnt put on enough sunscreen on saturday and am recovering from a light-medium shoulder sunburn. it's not too painful to wear shirts anoymore, but... well it scares me because my father has had skin cancer in the past. And on friday i'm going to the beach. I'm not gonna take any chances: i'll bring a damn sweater and mittens if i have to: sweating is nothing compared to burning. Maybe my jayne hat will help... hmm.

And here's a little imponderable and some news. You know how last time i was here i mentioned UCLA? well now i've got me another life milestone sorta. Though i've been floundering around about it for weeks, more than a month after my womanfriend (my politically correct terminology for girlfriend, but mroe respectful, for all that we're 18) literally told me she wanted me to kiss her... after a lot of missed opportunities, some soul searching, and some advice from one of my sisters, i finally kissed her properly. Twice. yeah. so, i can put that down in my head, Memorial Day 2007, whitefall: first kiss with beloved Thespian Club Presidenta. On a porch. In a rocking chair. Yes, like a silly movie.

Now here's my question: i'm a young, confused teenager: does kissing ever... get easy? get enjoyable? because both me and my womanfriend agreed that it was anticlimactic: no fireworks or somesuch, just pressing our lips together. Obviously we lack practice, but i cant help shake the feeling that kissing just doesnt come naturally to us. Touching, cuddling, sure. It feels natural, a natural way to express affection. Kissing just doesnt make sense in our heads. Does that ever change?

See! I bring imponderables to ask! Oh wise and mighty imponderers.

P.S. Saw Waitress. Awesome movie. Fillion, and Pies. What's not to like. And I think it turned me into a Keri Russel fan, and an Adrienne Shelly fan ....

MAVOURNEEN

Morning, everyone!

Whitefall...I had to laugh, just a bit. Yes...it gets much, much easier! Especially as you two become more familiar with being gf/bf. Good luck to you both. It's about time!

Well, Washingtonians didn't let me down over the long weekend. They remebered the fallen military by doing what they do best; spending outrageous sums on leather furniture. I fear this may be my only post today, as we are still sorting the piles of orders at my desk. I'll try and peek in now and again.

And Jimi, I do expect a full shindig report in my inbox as soon as possible! I hope everything in your world is coming together.

How was everyone else's weekend? We went to a street festival (fun!) but did little else the whole weekend other than entertain our son.

Need coffee before avalanche of orders buries me.

*hug* to all.

I used to do that, when I wore distinctive PJs that were separate from my other clothes. That way you always know where they are. (none of this means you aren't a loon though )

Mavs - you've seen the pics, and I have stories to tell that could last all week.

HOBBLEIT

Afternoon all.

My weekend was fun. I went shopping with my brother and our friends. Some dude came up to my brother and asked if he knew where he could get any weed. If you knew what my brother looked like you'd understand why.

The rest of the weekend was dull. It rained and as it was a bank holiday there was nothing to do. They aren't much fun when you can't drive.

There are baby duckies in our principal's courtyard. ( we already have a ton of duckies in the big science courtyard, but somehow a mama duck has gotten in the small courtyard and had her duckies over the weekend. We now have to figure transpo to the correct courtyard for a mama and 12 babies ( there's no water in the principal's courtyard...
Hope you all had lovely weekends!
