Yup, once again, we've come to a new thread. Funny how some times we'll go for near on a week without changing location, while other times we'll be moving on a daily (or more frequent) basis.

So, where were we? The rearguard action of the maths and grammar geekiness, charred meat, definitions (as well as demonstrations) of glomping, plus various other bits and pieces.

Old one's back at http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=28981

'Grats, Mav

Is there a definitive list of the supermodels? Is it just the cam companions who make with the flooding or is there another rule? I'm curious now...

The next one can be the glomp-fest. At our current rate we'll get there fast.

Don't think there's anything definitive, although we could always have a poll to see who people think is a 'super'model, as opposed to a 'normal' cam-companion.

I thought that Ninja Kitty expressed interest. Is this the Dresden book that started with me? If so, add "Nicodemus" to the list written in the book.

(You'll enjoy book #5, Nicodemus. Nicodemus. Nicodemus. Now you are in my brass circle.)

More books should be showing up shortly, PR.

It only makes sense. I'll spend $5.99 for each Dresden book, then they gather dust on a shelf. If I send them on it costs a little bit more, but then someone else gets to enjoy Dresden. (And I don't burn up shelf space.) That person enjoys Dresden and spends much less than $5.99 to send it on to the next person. (Unless you are shipping to the pacific rim - Sorry PR)

Someday before the book is retired, I hope to see the list of names on the inside of the book. Makes me feel good to share. And thanks go out to Mav and MSG for recommending the Dresden books!

The next two series I'd recommend, in the same sort of "Urban Fantasy" vein are:

Rachel Caine's Weather Watcher series:

International Airmail Letter Post would be about $6.50. At least is was before this latest round of postal increases.

1) Books are not Letter Post (neither are altoids, graham crackers, or any of the other assorted goodies I send overseas) and 2) cost depends on weight. It wasn't all that bad to ship the book because it wasn't all that heavy, but the shipping cost was (apparently) more than the worth of the book. Happens whenever I send a couple tins of altoids, too; shipping is twice the worth of the treats.

Yup, was US$8.65 to send the book (according the stamp). For me to send it to someone stateside will cost, I dunno how much, but it may sound worse than it is, due to exchange rates.

Um, there's one. Why? Are you implying I can't pronounce S proper? Cuz I can! I just, you know, accent and everything. Good as I am with accents, I don't know how to say it just right the way he hears it in his head (which is the rule, as I understand it, in Dresden) though maybe one day...

I beg to differ. First Class Mail International (used to be called Letter Post) is letters or small packages. 8 oz is $7.20 (it went up recently) and is governed by:

Dimensions of Envelopes and Packages
1. Minimum length and height: 5–1/2 inches x 3–1/2 inches.
2. Minimum depth (thickness): .007 inch.
3. Maximum length: 24 inches.
4. Maximum length, height, depth (thickness) combined: 36 inches.

I've probably shipped 500 things to Oz this way. I didn't weigh the book, so 8 oz is a guess. 16 oz is $10.10. Packages generally get to Oz in 7-10 days.

Edit: $8.65 is 12 oz.

*shakes her head* Books are Media Mail. Anything that doesn't contain written communication is Media Mail. If I put a card in with it, it would have been Letter Post. Trust me, I asked my dad about this when I first started sending things, and he's been working at the Post Office for 21 years. Letter Post is written communication, Media Mail is not.

*edit* Jimi, I said real name, not online name

I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing, PR, but I find nothing about media mail on the USPS web site. (But then, perhaps the search engine stinks.)

I think that First Class International with the custom's form is the least expensive and certainly works for what I've done.

(Also funny that a book is not "written communication")

The international shipping page online doesn't have all the same specifics, this is true. Looks like what I usually use is the International Priority Airmail (the times match). But I remember when I read all the in-depth things there was something about including written communication changing the mail type or rates or something, so don't do it with packages. I sent my holiday cards seperate from packages for that reason, and my dad explained that it became letter post rather than parcel post or something like that... You know what? It's just confusing. I fill out the forms and give them their money and the stuff makes it there, so I'm gonna stop trying to understand it.

As long as we are continuing this non argument I think media mail applies to stateside mail, not international. Plus the post office has simplified the (very confusing) international stuff recently (I think within the last few months). http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/immc1.4.18.htm appears to be the new stuff.

"The term First-Class Mail International encompasses all of the classes of international letter-post mail (i.e., letter and letter packages, postcards and postal cards, printed matter, and small packets) that were formerly categorized as LC (letters and cards) and AO (other articles) respectively."

Nice that they have simplified their system considerably. Tougher for me when I need to ship international insured mail, but, well, boo for me then.

OK enough talk about mailing. People in this thread might go postal...

MSG

Wow that sounds kinda scary NV...but intriguing none the less!

Ok I'm just hoping Nico's managed to rid himself of the black pudding smell...right now I look as if I rolled in dirt repeatedly, but we have finished the courtyard...ripped out 57 shrubs and hedge pieces and about 1/8 an acre of grass and planted 145 plants and trees..I do not think I shall ever be clean again, but the courtyard looks really nice:)

I'm with RIMG I just hand them the package and pay and it goes where I say...though at strangely varied times. Sometimes stuff I send Magda goes quickly and sometimes not...oh well

I don't like the USPS, somehow they always manage to mangle my deliveries.

So I go UPS or Fed-ex when I can afford them.

Which is why I don't hotlink, but have an exclusive bucket for them. And photobucket has rarely given me a problem with popups or slow runtimes, but I was finding great cats, both with and without captions, on flikr, and my computer started running slower and slower and I had to clear my cache and restart to get into chatzy again.

Barkeep! I have re-discovered the wonder that is Bawls. May I have a Bawls, please?

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
