The reply of not 'star bonding first timers' doesn't make any sense in Joss' case.

He's a writer with many big screen hits behind him and he's a successful TV producer.

He's not some kid fresh out of film school who is turning his thesis into a movie ... wait ... Highlander became a mega-hit for Whedon ...

gotta thing of a better example.

Ummmm, it's not like Opie or Meathead decided they'd try to direct a film ... wait ... Ron Howard and Rob Reiner are HUGE ...

hmmmm ... it's not like some kid with floopy hair who stars in a unbelievably cheesy 'cops posing as high school kids' show is trying to make it on the big screen ... wait ... Johnny Depp is one of the biggest stars around.

I'm gonna scratch my head and say, "I don't get it." Just put the damn star bond out there.

"Just keep walkin, preacher man."

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I didn't understand that response in the HSX thread either Knibs. Joss is not exactly a newcomer to Hollywood, and his shows speak for him as to his abilities.

Seems to me they would issue that star bond so we can buy.

If anyone who uses HSX stops in to answer AnthonyT's question, maybe they could also answer something I've been wondering for awhile:

How the devil do the HSX people make any money?

I'm confused by the fact that it seems to be run by a company as opposed to a few rabid movie fans, but I don't see where the "real" business end comes in, what with all the stocks being imaginary. Does anyone know?

Thanks,

McNally

www.hsx.com A cyber stock site where folk can buy and sell movie and movie star 'stock' and make cyber money.

I'm assuming they make money through their advertising - such as the netflicks ad you can click on and earn $50,000 if you're the lucky winnner.

I really don't know, but it's fun :)

(Hey Knibs! )

I am sure you are right Knibs. They probably get info from ads and selling email addys to advertisers.

They have a subscriber only area off their research section. I have little idea what's available to those who pony up the cash (and that's after reading their marketing gobblygook). Here is their 'about' blurbbage.

Oh they are so screwed with me. Remember, I'm the one who owns 500 shares of the movie "Callas" about the life of Maria Callas. I'm not a 22 year old bubblehead from Santa Frikkin Monica.

Hello...

I guess from the thread that someone has asked HSX to list Joss as a starbond and they refused?

Like fireflyfans.net?

After looking up some of the listings, you just have to laugh. There are some really unknown people there... I can't believe they wouldn't list JW. I know a lot more people have heard of Joss Whedon than about a third of the other StarBonds listed.

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Oh yeah, you, FOX TV!!

Posting from the other HSX thread

The reply I got after emailing the folks at HSX, asking about a Joss Whedon StarBond.

Variety reports that principle photography for
"Serenity" (FRFLY) will start in June, with Joss
Whedon (Buffy, Angel; Toy Story) directing. I've
read that TAG only comes into play for the
second film; but are first time directors listed
in StarBonds? If so, will Joss be?

Variety: Whedon's "Serenity" greenlit.

FFF: "Serenity" in Variety's film production
chart.

Thanks for your suggestion. We do not usually issue StarBond for first timers this early out. If we do issue one for Joss Whedon, it won't be until closer to Serenity's release date.

Well, I'm all right. - Mal

HSX only deals with films, their directors, and the actors in them (not writers or tv shows); so when I asked about "first time directors" that was because Joss hasn't directed any films yet.

Macdaddy is the go-to-guy for HSX IPO suggestions, and his reluctance to list directors early is probably because, even amoung HSXers, few think about directors. It's not a comment on Joss, it's probably just a rule made to prevent a huge amount of relatively inactive bonds.

I just found this by accident on HSX:

Afterlife (movie title) asks the question, what would happen if the brain of a brilliant scientist was transplanted into the body of a deranged killer? Andy Tennant (Anna and the King) is attached to direct the film, which was written by Joss Wheedon and David Veloz.

Anyone heard of this before? HSX says this film is still in development so it may be a very old script. Just thought it was a funny coincidence.

Re: Afterlife

This was one of the two big scripts Joss wrote a while ago. There's a very good article about them
at
http://www.screenwritersutopia.com/script_reviews/suspension_afterlife
.html

I'd love to see either of those actually get made, especially if they're left relatively intact.

See, that's what I was worried about. I don't really need to be on any more spam lists. But it seems like a lot of people here are happy with the whole thing, so maybe I will sign up.

Ah, more ways to procrastinate. Just what I need.

And the news on Afterlife is cool, as was the article. Let's just hope it doesn't get rewritten into the land of suck.

I used to answer polls honestly and fill out questionnaires honestly. This resulted in my receiving all of the high-end catalogs selling cigars, wine, home decor, garden stuff. The prices on this stuff made my eyes bug out of my head. I also ended up on the donation lists of every charity in the book.

So ... I started lying. I now answer everything honestly with the exception of household income. I now say I make under $12K per year.

*sigh* Now, I'm receiving "Harriet Carter" catalogs instead.

You can't win with marketers. I've gone from receiving catalogs of stuff that make my mouth water but that I couldn't afford in a million years to ... to crapola that makes my stomach turn and I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy to decorate their 'double-wide'.
