This May 28th thru 30th (Memorial Day Weekend) in Columbus, Ohio is MARCON (Multiple Alternatives Realities Convention). There will be discussions, authors, art shows etc. There will also be a FIREFLY PRESENCE!! This will include a Firefly Panel Discussion (for which panel members are needed) and a Firefly Party Room! (party room will be companion bordello/blue sun room theme)
--------------------------------------------

EDITED TO ADD: There will also be many Buffy/Angel related panels and a Buffy the Musical Singalong with a live cast Rocky Horror style!!! Okay back to Fly's post:
-------------------------------------------

Two years ago 3500 people attended Marcon. I believe that rivals last year's attendance at WorldCon! One of the organizers met the Chicago Browncoats at CapriCon last year & came again to their FF party room this year. This time he requested a Browncoat Presence at marcon! We need to honor that request!

So far we have only four confirmations. We need more help and more local columbus, ohio browncoats to attend! The participants will be renting a party room for two nights ($230), providing decorations, man power & the like. Even if you can't afford to pitch in, your presence at the con will help us out tremendously!!! You can chat with visitors to the party room, help change the dvds, etc, and hang around while some of the party room organizers fulfill their commitments by hosting some panels in the con (including a firefly panel!!). If you are interested in helping &/or promoting Firefly and the Firefly Movie let us know!! If you have any questions, you can post them here.

edited to add: if you are interested in being part of the firefly discussion panel, let us know.

hi! i haven't heard anything about any new york shindigs, but you can check in a couple of places for info...

http://www.shindigified.com
http://www.browncoats.com

i know there are other boards that announce shindigs, but can't think of any others (except this one, fireflyfans.net and the ob)

also, there's going to be a big shindig in chicago in september: browncoat ball. if you think comin' to chicago may at all be a possibility check out http://www.browncoatball.com for more info and you can check the "roadtrip" thread in the forum for people to drive down to chicago with.

hope you have a chance to make it to ohio. it'll be great to have more browncoats there!

C'mon Buckeye Browncoats! It'd be awfully embarrassing if I was the only one there actually from Ohio...

Edit: Oops, Flyhead is from Ohio too, my bad.

There was a New York Browncoat on the official board the other day saying that Hoyts theater had built a mega movie theater in Syracuse and was wondering if there was any interest from us Browncoats to rent the theater for one day showing of the movie when it comes out. As I am from the Hudson Valley area and near Albany, Syracuse isn't too terribly far for me to go.

Unfortuately I can't find that post anymore...

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

marcon update...

well, things are looking good for firefly at marcon. so far, there now may be from 3 to 5 panels about firefly instead of just 1 as we originally thought!

this is shiny news!

so, any other browncoats thinking of attending? let us know by posting in this thread! help us promote firefly and the movie!

also, don't forget - there will be a buffy sing-a-long to the "once more with feeling" episode. this has been one of the most popular panels at marcon the last two years!

see you there!

Wow, I wish I could go. My first con was a Marcon, in like 1986. Back then Marcon meant "March Convention" and there were easter bunnies everywhere.

shiny!! we need more local browncoats! three or four of us who are helping host the party room are going to be on all the firefly panels... that means we need volunteers to stay in the room during some of those times to avoid closing the room down while we are gone :)

this is going to be a fun time had by all ;)

Marcon was such wacky fun! I'd never been to a real con before, just a couple of Creation ones. It was such a culture shock. But in a good way.

Rhobyne, Flyhead, and Vampirefan did such an awesome job on the Firefly room. You guys rock! Stay tuned to the OB, Fly promised to post pictures. Sffan and his wife dropped by to help out too. I wasn't much help, as I had to work Friday and Saturday. Hopefully next year I'll be able to schedule a couple of vacation days for that weekend. I might not be too creative in the decorating department, but I can gofer like nobody's business.

Rhob was a little disappointed at the number of people that showed up (to the FF room), but I think we did pretty good for our first time at Marcon, especially since it's mainly a "literary" con. Don't be too disappointed Rhob, the people who wandered in and then quickly left were just looking for free booze. We did have a couple of guys stop in and tell us that they weren't even planning on going to Marcon until they heard there was going to be a Firefly presence this year. And we did recruit some new Browncoats. Plus, we had at least two people stop by who will be voting for the Hugos (and naturally, voting for Firefly).

Next year, maybe we could do better if we got a fan table in addition to a viewing room. Especially if we can get more volunteers to staff them (hint, hint).

I was kinda nervous about sitting the panels, but they turned out to be fun. An easy way to earn free admission, next time I'll do the required five.

it was good to finally meet you! i had a great time and you were such a good sport sitting in a car with a bunch of giggling women ;) and an awesome help with the tearing down of the party room among other things :D

...and it's true, the panels were not as bad as i thought either...especially when you have rhobyne and flyhead and lee talking up a storm! the panels were fun and we did have a great turnout at the first most conveniently scheduled one... we probably had about 50 browncoats there!

and yes! fan table next year! along with the party room :)
