Hey All

Was recently checking out Dark Horizons, and there's been a story confirming a flurry of casting choices for the film version of WATCHMEN. And one of the notices caught my eye.

For the part of The Comedian, Nate Fillion was one of the names bandied about for the part. Him and Ron Perlman were considered, but they're now looking at Thomas Jane for the part.

Now, I'm all for Nate to get any big role he can get in a huge Hollywood blockbuster, but he would have been so wrong for the part. If you've read the comic, you know that The Comedian is this evil Burt Reynolds type. I just can't imagine Nate being this sadistic, black ops type that would gun down a pregnant Vietnamese woman. Jane I can kinda see, but Perlman would have just owned it like he owns Hellboy.

Do you guys think Nate would have been so wrong as The Comedian?

On the plus side, they're considering Jackie Earl Haley for Rorshach. As nice as it would have been to see Jude Law, Simon Pegg or Alan Tudyk uglify themselves for the part, Jackie is so perfect for that bit. Anyone who saw LITTLE CHILDREN knows that he'd fit Rorshach like a glove.

CHRISMOORHEAD

I veyr much doubt that most people here know what Watchmen is. I personally have only ever read two Alan Moore graphic novels, Watchmen being one of them, and V for Vendetta being the other. Seeing how they butchered V, I'm almost crying thinking about what they'll do to Watchmen...

But back on subject, I agree Mr.Fillion would have been wrong for the role. Ron Pearlman a better choice, but honestly Thomas Jane is probably the best choice. I think The Punisher was the most under-rated comic book turned movie of all time. I was never a reader of the Punisher comics, so i don't know how he was "supposed" to be, but I thought Thomas's interpretation of Frank Castle was outstanding. I also was particularly impressed by the obvious amount of research they did into military and government background for the character, better authenticity than you see in most movies where the military is not the main focus of the movie.

Every time I hear the words "Delta" and "SEAL" thrown into dialogue just to make it sound cool, whatever's in my hand usually becomes a projectile.

Anyways, I wish I knew more (or anything) about this Jackie Earl fellow. Rorshach was my favorite character, and I'd be interested to see what actor could pull off such a twisted-but-in-a-good-way personality so well. The closest I've seen was Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal, in the movie Hannibal, but not so much in Solence of the Lambs or Red Dragon. Of course, I don't know anyone besides myself who considers Hannibal lecter to be twisted in a GOOD way...

Nathan a comedian?

Mr. Fillion takes the stage in front of a large rowdy crowd of browncoats,

“ On Fox, what last longer than a good tv show?”
punch-line “ It’s commercials!”

“ What has four legs and a tale and runs to hide when it sees people on horses?”
punch-line “ Two fox exects watching the Firefly pilot episode.”

and finally " Whatta ya call letters sent to me over the internet?"

"e-Mal." punch

Takes a bow, leaves.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree that Nathan would have been wrong for the part of The Comedian, not because I don't think he can pull it off, but rather because I want to see him as the leading man. Nathan has that onscreen presence and charisma to carry any role.

Personally I could see Nathan doing a sadistic role. Look at how fantastic he was as Caleb on Buffy. He took that role and made it his own.

As to Ron Perlman as The Comedian, I think he would be perfect for it too.

I really don't think Filion would have the right kind of presence to carry off the comedian, it'd border on the 'Oh So Wrong'

They may think their sins are original, but for the most part they are petty and repetitive.
