MIRANDASEND

Howdy folks,

Our band just released two new songs last night - "Miranda's End" and "Heroes Lament" ( www.myspace.com/mirandasend). I have written an entire album worth of songs inspired by "Firefly/Serenity." We are recording them in Hurricane Studios on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with shiny grammy-winning engineer, Lee Peterzell. We are trying to make them as professional sounding as possible. I came out of "musical retirement" to attempt my part in spreading the word about our beloved show and BDM. I am a latecomer and haven't been around as long as some of y'all - but I heard about the show and got hooked after just watching the pilot. Now my children and I actively promote the 'Verse. I've been involved in "lost causes" before and I'm happy to help out with anything I can.

As Joss would say, "If you like the songs, tell everyone about them - if you don't then keep it to yourselves" - ha!

I would love to have your comments.

Fly true,
John Thomas Cripps

BTW, lyrics are posted in the myspace blog.

"What went wrong at Miranda?
The feds went way too far this time
What will we do about Miranda?
We have to make them pay for this crime"
(Miranda's End)

Very nice. (I couldn't listen to it all because of bandwidth issues). I'm putting your site on our fan listings at News of the Verse under Merchandise though I have to admit to wanting to put it under Art!

Beautiful voice and I love the hint of Southern Rock!

http://www.newsoftheverse.net/ We search the 'Verse so you don't have to.

Thanks a bunch redhead! I am going to add your site right now to our links section as well.

Any of y'all that would like us to link to your browncoat site - just let me know. Miranda's End aims to misbehave and promote the 'Verse in all ways imaginable.

Thanks fireflygal. I added your site to our links page.

BTW...

Any of y'all in fairly close vicinity to the Mississippi Gulf Coast?

I am thinking about holding a Browncoat Celebration later this year (when Mississippi afternoons ain't so oppressively hot) - maybe around Labour Day weekend. Might can hold it at the Seminary Canoe Rental campgrounds ( www.okatomacreek.com) or maybe along the Coast since folks love the beach. Problem is, after Hurricane Katrina - there ain't much left - though the local economy could sure use some tourists!!!

Y'all drop me a line and let me know what you think. We plan on getting a local browncoat group started here so contact me if you live in South Mississippi.

Thanks,
JC

Well JC I'll tell ya, over Labor Day weekend you and the band should be in ATlanta at Dragon*Con! Check out the web page if you've never been www.dragoncon.org. I live in St. Pete Florida, so MS. is a bit out of my way (I hate driving).

If you want to start a MS group I would check and see if there is one first. I know there's a site that lists the groups that are around. Try googling Browncoat groups or something. Then if there is none, post a new thread, it'll get you better results than saying it here. :)

I aim to misbehave!

Thanks fireflygal! Yeah I heard from a few folks today telling me I should be in Atlanta. I wouldn't mind going but I probably can't get the band to go anywhere unless we're playing.

I did do a search on Mississippi browncoats and found two groups but none in South Mississippi. Hopefully we can remedy that!

Thanks for your response...

I like it. Good sound. Will there be any way to order the full album once released? I don't do myspace and so don't know much about it.

I couldn't find the meetup page you were talking about. Could you give a complete URL. ~Thanks! I did do some googling and searching through myspace. I found two Mississippi groups - just not in this area. I reckon we'll be starting a new group.

Reply to Kayna:
Yes, we'll make CDs available at low prices when we get the album finished. I just have to raise the money to record the remaining 10 songs. Studio time is pretty expensive. I don't have a date yet for completion. I'm not doing the CD for fame or money - just trying to draw some attention to the 'Verse, if possible. My idea is to make the CDs available cheap so that group can use them for fund-raising. At least, we plan to do that here in South Mississippi. I am thrilled that you like the songs. I can't wait to record "Unification Day" - it's my personal favourite.

Reply to SIGMANUNKI:
Thanks so much for taking the time to write us up - down right shiny of you! I'll keep y'all posted on the progress.

The songs got picked up by some non-Browncoats yesterday following their release. This is great because it gave me an opportunity to introduce them to the 'Verse. I'm a happy camper if I can draw some new folks in!

Thanks y'all,
JC

JC, sounds like you're moving forward on getting a group together in your neck of the 'Verse. Shiny!

As far as Dragon*Con, you any sci-fi fan should go! You might want to call the phone number and see what it takes to get invited as a guest or what you have to do to come as a group. There are MANY musical groups that go!

As far as the songs, I'm more of a rocker grrrl but that won't stop me from supporting you guys and buying the album for myself when it's available AND for gifts. That's one thing we Browncoats do, is support our Browncoat family! Is there a place to make an outright donation? I saw where I could purchase songs but not donate, which I would like to do, please.

I aim to misbehave!

We are moving forward. I set up a Mississippi Browncoats page on MySpace. Now I need to start recruiting. We are getting a lot of attention from our new songs. I lot of folks are saying that haven't ever heard of Firefly/Serenity but will check it out. That's what it's all about, right?

I am really interested in going. I talked to my children about it and they are stoked. I'm raising youngins by myself so I've never really thought about going to conventions - but the youngest is 8 now so he'll probably be old enough to get into it.

I understand - I like to crank the gain to 11 and kick in my distortion box from time to time. I appreciate the offer of donations but I'd feel pretty bad about that. I even took our MP3 store off of MySpace. I didn't want folks to think we were mercenaries and in this for money. I decided to try to raise funds for the studio in other ways. You are awfully generous - its rare to find folks like that anymore. Hopefully I've found a nice new home among the Browncoats.

Hi JC

You and the band (and youngins) HAVE found a home amongst the Browncoats.

As far as Dragon*Con, they may even have some sort of "sitter type" service for a few hours. I'm sure it's tough being Mr. Mom but I bet you're doing a shiny job at it :)

I still want to make a donation! Spreading the word of the 'Verse is exactly where it's at and I would like to help. Please let me know how. I think you'll find generosity the rule rather than the exception here
